    Fishing the Indiana waters

Kidscommons is a great little secret gem located in Columbus, Indiana. There are two parts to Kidscommon. There is the children's museum that is stem based. It teaches you the water system in your home and even has a huge toilet that kids can go down via a slide. It provides 4 floors of fun learning for kids ages 2-12. I think past that age , it could be less interesting to the older kids. The cost for the museum is 10.00 for kids 3 and up. Adults are 14.00. Across the street from the museum is Kidscommons indoor playground. This is free and provides hours of play for the kids. They have areas for toddlers, 2-5, a section for 5-7 and another section 7 and up. They too offer stem games in a fun interactive way for the kids This playground is free of charge! Even if you do not want to go to the museum, this is a fun free activity for the family! I definitely will be going back!! Also, when your go to the museum, they will stamp your hand so you can go back and forth to each venue This is definitely a place you will want to check out and only 40 minutes from Indy. When you are all finished learning and playing, you might want to check out the ice cream parlor a few doors down from the museum. That too is a fun place and definitely worth checking out!!

My kids mostly enjoyed the playground upstairs and the area with the bubbles. I feel like there were lots of little areas or exhibits but they didn't keep my kids entertained long enough. They kind of just walked through the areas. Usually I have to drag my kids out of places like these, but they were ready to go within an hour.

This is a great place to have a family outing. There are activities for toddlers and older kids. I purchased tickets online and the employee was able to locate my tickets in the computer under my last name. The two employees working provided great customer service. All displays, activities, and toys are very educational. It gives parents the opportunity to relax on the benches while watching their children play as well as play with the educational toys with their children. There are playground areas and tons of toys so it is guaranteed there is something for all kids to enjoy. My baby loved the play stove and refrigerator and the bubble room.

I am really starting to get the vibe that Columbus, Indiana, is a very family-centered town. Everywhere I look, there is something awesome for children and families to do, and Kidscommons is just one of them. This is more like an indoor playground broken up into three stories, with different centers of fun stuff to do. On the first floor there is a toddler area with a hollow tree to climb in, an Airstream to sit in, and bridge to cross and a picnic table to eat pretend food. Then there is a rotating exhibit that features items from different cultures. When we visited, they were featuring Japan. Off to the side of the first floor is the art center, with so many art supplies available, it is amazing. They even have a hot plate to melt things (I think crayons?)! On the other side is an area to build a town with blocks. On the second floor is where we spent most of our time. There is a huge rock climbing wall (which is an extra fee), as well as a bubble center where you can make bubbles that you can step in! The best part of the second floor is the house, where kids can crawl into a toilet (!), visit the attic, learn about where the water travels in a house, go up and down stairs and more. On the third floor there's a pretend grocery store for young children, several basketball hoops, hula hoops, huge blocks, exercise equipment and a dance game. We only spent about 2.5 hours here, but we could have easily spent all day. One of the awesome things about Kidscommons is that it is directly across the street from the gigantic, humongous, extremely fun and FREE indoor playground in The Commons. Kidscommons lets you go in and out if you stamp your hand first before leaving, so you could play all day between this museum and the indoor playground. This is definitely a fun destination.

My son in-law and I took 3 grandkids here. The price was not bad. You could also leave and come back with your hand stamped. The first floor has an area to hang your coats! Also on the first floor it has a craft area for drawing, coloring etc and 6 other stations for the kids. The second floor an area for the kids to shoot basketball (like they have in game rooms) and other activities. The third floor had the big action. This is where the toilet slide, rock climbing bubbles and more are. The girls loved this floor and the first floor well already that is where they spent most there time. This place is worth the money and fun. !!

I love this place for my kids. I highly recommend it. Staff is great, the kids also have a lot of toys to play with and enjoy them selfs with. The rock climbing is supper fun too! There is even a place for parents to sit and watch there kids play. What a great place and I can't wait to come back. It is also very affordable and is only $7 to get in per person.

Kids having fun on the first floor!

Great location and wonderful activities for children, good learnings to be had. Two issues they should address, better restroom facilities and pricing. Don't gouge parents for more entry fees when the venue is just for kids.

The parking is extremely easy and you are also able to rent a stroller pretty cheaply there which is a plus. Our kids especially loved the space exhibit and the exhibit (on the top floor I believe) that showcases a lot of the nature surrounding Indiana. There's so much to explore and everything feels thoughtfully designed for kids to really interact and play, not just look. Even moving through with little ones felt manageable because there are so many engaging areas to stop and explore. If you have young kids and are in Indianapolis, this is an easy five-star outing. We're already looking forward to going back.

The museum itself is incredibly hands-on and interactive. My kids could have stayed all day. The water play area was a huge hit (bring a change of clothes or use the smocks they provide), and the construction zone with life-size building blocks kept them busy for ages. I loved that it's set up in a way where kids can explore independently but parents can still keep an eye on them easily. The staff was friendly and kept things clean, which I appreciated since little ones are touching everything. The whole museum is very family-friendly, with spaces for toddlers as well as older kids, so no one feels left out. Another bonus: since it's inside the larger Museum Center, you can easily combine your visit with the Natural History Museum or an IMAX show. Parking was simple, and there are food options inside, though we chose to pack snacks. Overall, it's the perfect place for kids to play, learn, and burn off energy--rainy day or not. Chaos. Way busier…read morethan I expected on a Monday morning. Just packed. People standing around blocking aisles, kids running around unsupervised. The staff were great, trying to keep things moving, helping kids and parents. Lots of places for tired adults to sit. Hard for K to play at exhibits; too many kids, and too many monopolizing activities and not sharing. Bad parenting isn't the museum's fault, of course, but it's pretty small, and things are crammed in there, with just not enough places to actually get involved. Could be better designed. And it seems to be aimed at younger kids (kindergarten and before.) We moved to The Woods, essentially an indoor playground. Horrible. Dark, cramped, convoluted. And the kids can just disappear. Lost Kid K for 10 minutes. Into a tunnel, a glimpse overhead on the bridge, then gone. Hard for adults to get up, or in, many areas. Zero visibility. I saw a bigger kid get stuck and yell for help till a random parent got them loose. Kids under 8 are supposed to be supervised but aren't; there should also be an upper age limit so preteens aren't mixing with toddlers. I'd recommend they add more lighting, more stairways, more portholes into the cave. I searched fruitlessly, with a random mom helping, and K found a staffer who got her to me. K said we're never going to the children's museum again. The other museums in the complex are plenty kid-friendly, and more open and involving.

Everything is very old, dingy and dated. There are literally computer printouts taped to the walls as decorations. Many of the exhibits have broken and dirty objects in them, like torn upholstery on the chairs, dirty play food, torn carpet. Now, there is some art that is laminated, but those are peeling off the walls and placed on the wall all crooked. All these things make the museum feel so neglected. We got there on a weekday right when it opened, and the staff was still vacuuming while the children were running around and playing. Really? You can't do this before you open? Children were running around and jumping over the vacuum cord. Then, when I went to the gift shop to buy some food, the same dumb vacuum was placed right in front of the door so that I had to walk around it. Each of these things are not very big, but it's little things like this that show lack of attention to detail and bad customer service. The restroom is extremely old, and the handicap stall that I visited did not have a working lock. The toilet seat was literally disintegrating. The whole museum is not very well ventilated, and I kept smelling kid farts everywhere I went. (FYI: Kids fart a lot.) This museum is two stories, but when we visited, the exhibits upstairs were blocked off and no one could use them. Our visit was contained to the downstairs portion. I came with low expectations, but this was ridiculous and disappointing. Well, disappointing to me. My kids had fun, which is the whole point of visiting a children's museum, right? Nevertheless, I most likely won't be back unless the children beg me, which probably won't happen because there are many other places to play that are not in a state of disrepair.

We've been here twice in the last several years and both experiences were exactly the same. Same exhibits and the same 'old' feeling of worn out and dirty 'exhibits.' Some things are even broken. I was personally bored in here quickly. On the flip side, my son loves this place. He loves making paper rockets to shoot out to the floor below, building things in the construction/fort area, and watching the balls roll in the watershed exhibit. Making the weatherman video was a blast, as was playing with the air tubes that pushed out scarves. We spent a decent amount of time on each floor, with the exception of the top floor that didn't hold our interest at all. Then he was ready to go. We spent maybe four hours here each visit. We live about an hour and a half from here, so it's a bit of a drive. I was determined that we stay here longer than the time it takes to drive here. Might be worth the drive once or so to bring your kids, but not frequently unless you live nearby and your kids love this place.
