Super fun! What the heck is Whirlyball? It's lacrosse, basketball and bumper cars in one! I came here for a friends birthday. There were 9 of us total and we had the court to ourselves, so we split into teams of 4 or 5. We started off with some beers, they had a case of bottled beers and other beverages, I was impressed on the large selection of beers. The staff explained the rules and let us practice shooting on the wall and then it was game time. The games last for 12 minutes. There is a scoreboard on each end of the court. The game is a mixture of trying to operate the bumper car while chasing to get the whiffle ball. We had the court for an hour and a half and for 4 games in, while taking drink breaks after each game. I came here for a corporate sponsored event. I had never heard of Whirlyball before until a coworker suggested that when we were brainstorming possible team building events. Whirlyball is a combination of bumper cars, basketball, and lacrosse. You are divided into two teams and try to score the ball into the elevated hole all while in bumper cars. We reserved a court from 2-5pm. We requested a time and date on their website and someone contacted me and you can call to officially reserve a spot. They have quotas based on your group size (6-10, 11-15, etc). They require a 50% deposit over the phone and you can pay the other 50% after you finish the reservation. They teach you the rules when you get there. Make sure you follow them because the penalties are costly! If you commit a penalty, points are rewarded to the other team which can be the difference between winning and losing. It is super fun! Moving around in the bumper car can be tricky at first since it's not a wheel but a crank that you spin to turn and also reverse but after a while you get the hang of it. The difficult part is driving and also trying to scoop and pass the ball around. Also, trying to score is really difficult and I'm not good at it at all. Games go on for about 10-15 minutes each and it's really flexible as there's a referee that is there to assist you. This is a great place to have a corporate or team building event and they are able to handle bigger parties. Try it out! read more

Oh my goodness! Our team had SO MUCH FUN at Whirlyball! Whirlyball is a combo of bumper cars and basketball with whiffle balls and "bats." You are put into teams of 5 and play games of 10 minutes, trying to scoop up the ball or pass it to a team member while getting smashed into by bumper cars then make a basket. The basket is a hole on a backboard, no net. It looks easy but it's harder than it looks! And so much fun! We did the Whirly Olympics, which consisted of Whirlyball, foosball, darts, air hockey, and shooting hoops and alpine skiing on an arcade game. We split into teams and took turns battling it out until the winners conquered in the mini games and then the best team with the overall score. Those who did the best in the mini games each received a medal. The team who did the best in Whirlyball and had the best overall score also received medals, t-shirts and a bottle of champagne! (You get to choose between champagne or sparkling cider.) I opted for the pizza buffet for everyone which included caesar salad and cookies. The pizza was house made and was comparable to Papa John's or Pizza Hut. I choose the $5 per person unlimited soda fountain option for drinks. Those who wanted a beer or another drink paid cash themselves. Everyone had a blast! I received tons of thank you's. I think this was the biggest hit for a corporate event I've had. The only con would be that it took a long time for us to get through everything, but we had a very large group which required booking the place for the whole day so that's completely understandable. The staff were all friendly, knew their stuff and were on point. Debbie who was the manager I worked with for setting up the event and onsite was really great. She got back to me in a timely manner, explained the game and rules of Whirlyball in a great "mom" fashion, and communicated with me throughout the event. She also offered a free event for me and a few others to come back and help spread the word about Whirlyball. That is just unreal and great sales! The staff took a pic of our entire group. They also took a pic of all the winners together. They are emailing the link to me so I can share them with everyone along with the pictures I took. They have a big, free parking lot that fit our huge group of 65. They have other arcade games here as well, but not many. They take quarters. read more

Had a morale event here today and came out way better than I ever expected! The alternative was going bowling as a group and the concensus was to play whirlyball instead. Although I had picked bowling, I'm so glad to have lost and got to come play whirlyball for the first time. It's great fun and we played for 3 hours with some lunch thrown into the mix. Actually, the food was good and way better than I would have expected in something that is a cross between a theater popcorn stand and state fair food vendor; especially since I wasn't paying. The whirlyball games are 10 minutes each and you get a real workout to the arms; one trying to control the bumper car and the other controlling the ball. You get to work on coordination skills, teamwork with others and your own ability to shoot the ball. Overall, was the best team outing I've been on in a while that actually brought the team together and had loads of fun. I highly recommend this place for work outings and I can see a group of couples, need 5 couples having a date night here too. read more

In no time, everyone is always laughing with glee and cracking up from the crazy chaos and fun. I'm transported to 3rd grade games of dodgeball whenever I come here. Went on a team event here. It is sooo much fun! I'll be honest, I had apprehensions about what this would be like (read that as scared of injury!!), but my mind was quickly put to rest when I entered the building and saw the cars and the lacrosse style sticks. The staff were amazing, they explained the rules (which seem like a lot), but once you start playing, it sort of all just makes sense! If you are with a group, then you play different rounds and basically end up in a world cup final type of deal! Besides the actual whirlyball, there are also other low key games to play while waiting for your whirlyball turn (like table hockey, basketball, etc.)! These are also fun. They also cater food, and serve drinks (including drip coffee for the caffeine needy people, like me!). Overall, this place is a lot of fun. There's plenty parking in the lot. Only thing is the place is freeeeezing, but once you are playing games you heat up pretty quick! read more

I have been twice now for birthday parties. This place is great for adults to play. It really brings out the kid in you. The cars themselves are very small so for anyone over 5'10'' you will be scrunched into the cars.The first time I went we had no problems but this last weekend 3 cars broke down on us and we had to continually stop the game. I feel like its best to do 4 on 4 for the gameplay but if you even split the bill it will make it much more expensive. Each time I went I paid between $25-$30 dollars for an hour of play. Gameplay = 5 Stars This last time we had their pizza. It was okay for a place like this. Similar to a cheaper chain pizza place. They did offer a gluten-free option which I was surprised about and they did have a sign saying a new an improved organic menu was coming soon. Food = 2 Stars Cleanliness wise it's not the place to be if you are picky. The bathrooms were decent but the carpet looked like it wasn't vacuumed from the night before and not sure if they clean the cars all that well. Cleanliness = 2 Stars. Customer Service is good. The referee's do a good job of making the game run smoothly. They call too many fouls in my opinion but not enough to alter the experience. Food came out rather quickly as well. I took my team from work here and everyone had a blast. Way more fun as team-building or a holiday party than just taking people out to a bar and more inventive than another night out bowling at the same-old place you've been to 100 times. You're basically in slow-moving bumper cars with plastic jai-alai-style scoops trying to throw a plastic ball into a target/net on either side of the court. Play in teams of 4 or 5 people against each other. No one has to have any particular athletic skill, and in fact in some ways it's more fun watching your teammates miss easy shots 100 times :-) The employees here did a great job explaining the rules and then setting up the games/small tournament we played. When we got there at 7pm I had a hard time imagining we'd feel busy until 10pm (the end of when we'd reserved the place), but next thing I knew it was 10 and time to head out! We also payed for them to have food set-up, and there was plenty of options for both the meat eaters and the vegetarians (nothing fancy, just lasagna/pasta & salad). We also did drink tickets (gotta control the crazies somehow) and it worked out fine - plenty of beer choices and sodas/etc for the non-drinkers. We had about 20 people, but I think you could easily have had 40 people here - even though only 20 people can play Whirlyball at a time others could hang out between the matches, eat, drink, etc. There were even some video games to play and air hockey. If you're looking for a team building event or a different kind of birthday party event for a "grown up", you should definitely check this place out. I plan to go back. read more

My fiance's Fantasy Football league plays Whirlyball nearly every year on Superbowl Sunday (not this year because people are catching on and it was booked full) and we always have a blast. It's great for both athletes and beginners. And they sell adult beverages! This place takes care of their guests and is run by a true gentleman! When this Coronavirus shutdown is over I will be booking a group of nurses for team building and a little well deserved stress relief. I went to Whirly Ball for a friend's birthday! I had no idea what I was getting myself into and honestly, it was so much fun! I have always liked bumper cars but this is way better with the teams and scoring element added. We were a large group and they divided us into teams. Our referee went over the rules of the games, particularly penalty points (there are a lot of ways to get penalties and the points go to the other team!). Two teams of 5 can play during the match. The referee watches the game and is in charge of keeping score. Maneuvering the cars can be a little tricky, I bumped the steering stick into my knees a few times. Also, you can get a bit of whiplash if someone hits you going full speed. The interior of the venue is a bit old, has a nostalgic element to it. There is not much to do while you're waiting for the other teams to go. The concessions has a large bottled beer selection and some basic food options (tenders, fries, onion rings). Parking is plentiful in the lot. Overall, I really enjoyed and wouldn't mind coming back! read more

My boyfriend plays Whirlyball competitively (he's in a league that plays every week and even travels to the national tournament every year - yes, there IS a national Whirlyball tournament), so I've seen a lot of Whirlyball games and I've heard a lot about the sport...but hadn't ever really played at all. I did play ONE game previously, way back in sixth grade. However, since I wasn't one of the so-called "popular girls," no one ever passed me the ball and I just drove around aimlessly, kind of bored.... I finally got the opportunity to play a LOT of Whirlyball last weekend and it was a blast! It's definitely hard at first - the steering mechanism for the bumper cars takes some getting used to. The first couple of games I played were a bit difficult, as you're getting used to not only the steering and speed of the vehicle, but also how to pass and catch accurately while in a moving bumper car. Once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun - especially when playing with a group of good friends! The building is definitely dated, but it totally fits with this place. There are sweet Whirlyball designs painted on the walls and the arcade games are ancient, but fun. There's a snack bar that serves all kinds of food and also serves beer! There's a large area for practicing, which is helpful for everyone, but especially those new to the sport. I think it would be fun to play in a league, but they DO get pretty competitive and I have I feeling that isn't a very good idea for me! I'll probably just stick to pick-up games and birthday party events for now. I definitely want to play again soon though! Someone I know needs to have a party here, stat! read more

This was a really awesome and fun experience with friends! It's a little pricey but worth it if you've never played before. Bumper cars meets lacrosse is an accurate description. You might experience soreness from whiplash the next day, so just be careful. They keep it pretty safe and are good about explaining rules and scoring to the group. Our group of 10 were on the court for about 2.5 hours but 1.5 hours is probably enough. They also have food and drinks that are pretty good. Chicken strips were tasty! Oh Wow. As others have faithfully reviewed, I must agree. If you want a low learning curve, major fun activity for any age group, then WhirlyBall takes the cake, and pretty much all the frosting too! I was hesitant about going, it's basically lacrosse plus bumper cars meet shooting from basketball. Our groups of 20 was perfect, there are 10 cars, 5 per team, so we rotated. When you get there, they give you a few brief instructions, and you are on your way. The ref there was cool, but fair about the playing, watching out for us and keeping us safe. So what happened? There was screaming, yelling, pushing, bumping, team mayhem, slamming, hectic passing, and in the 15 minute period, it was just plain memorable awesomeness. We played for a total of two hours, and it was one of the best two hours of sporting fun I have experienced in a the last couple months. Recommendation? Make a reservation, GET YOUR FRIENDS THERE NOW! I think a group of 10 or 20 is perfect. There is no reason to not play, and when you go, just be prepared to spend time, crashing into your friends. read more

A few of my friends play Whirlyball competitively and have been trying to get me to play it for a while now. Well, I finally got my chance this weekend and it was a BLAST! The idea of Whirlyball is that you drive around in a bumper car (don't worry about gas fumes, it's all electric) and you hold a "scoop" and you drive around and toss a ball around to your teammates and try and score a goal. Each game is comprised of two fifteen minute halves, the team with the most points wins. Pretty simple, right? This game involves a lot of strategy, but I had no idea what in the heck I was doing when I first started. I was glad nobody on my team had any clue either, that's what made it fun. At some points I was just ramming my bumper car into people because it was ridiculously fun. I can see why people would want to rent this place for corporate events and parties, it is tons of fun and you really have to work as a team to be successful. There is plenty to do during downtimes too. There is a practice area where you can throw balls at "goals" that are the same height as on the court. And if you just want to hang out there are video games you can play and concessions to be had (including beer!). If I had any sort of competitive bone in my body I might be tempted to join a league, but I do think it would be fun to come here for my birthday this year. This review is not easy for me to write because I had really wanted to give them a 5 star. This is the second time I organized and hosted a private event here. The first time was with 39 other people and the second time was with 49 people. They are indeed, per other reviews, very strict about outside food and drink. The main reason for our not so stellar experience is due to a lady referee today who was very unpleasant to work with. She's loud, obnoxious, and just plain difficult to communicate with. Her demeanor actually caused one of our guys to storm out of the building. We asked for some group photos and she literally cropped a tenth of our large group. I'm not penalizing on her bad photography skill but at least offer some decency and patience to retake for us. Finally, I didn't appreciate the way the game bracketing worked. We had 50 people today and ten teams. We were put on 12-15 minute game and played the same team more than once. They should have asked me how I wanted to organize this and I would have told them to make the game 10 minute or less and allow us to play with different teams. It's frustrating when I am bringing so much business to them and our expectations were short lived. It's even more annoying when the refs took a long break which ate more of our time. At any rate, this establishment isn't at all terrible and is quite an experience. I would recommend this activity and venue to anyone who hasn't tried Whirlyball before. My first experience was superb, and I think the second time was just a one off. We'll definitely consider doing this again the third time in the future! read more

OMG! This was so much fun. Did this for my birthday with a group of about 20 friends and we had blast. The time just flew by. A few friends couldn't play quite as much because it is bumper cars after all and you get jostled around quite a bit. In my late thirties and I felt it a little after 2.5 hours of this game! I'm only reserving one star for the day they offer better food options. The food options for groups is fine for a group of kids or maybe even teenagers not a group of adults. For all the corporate functions they offer I expected better. My friends and I opted to head over to Elliott Bay Public House and Brewing instead of eating here. read more

Tried Whirlyball for the first time with coworkers and had a lot of fun! Recently moving from the east coast, I had never heard of it before, but heard it popular in the Midwest/West. If you can imagine, it's similar to playing lacrosse while you are in a bumper car. Upon entering the place definitely looks like it could use a facelift. Old carpet, candy claw machine, quarter sticker and toy machines, and painted advertisements on the wall that remind you of the teen years you spent at the arcade or roller rink. We had a reservation from 2-4pm with a group of about 20 people. They split us up into 4 teams of 5 (to play tournament style) and then explained the rules and how the games work. Staff was decently friendly, but you could tell they get fed up with all of the different corporate groups and reservations that come in. Our referee was fair, but it's hard to hear over the noise of the cars and people yelling. They also didn't manage our game time very well. One of the games was cut very short in order for the championship match to get the full time. We didn't have any food while we were there, but they have typical snacks you would expect at an establishment such as this (hot dogs, pizza, fries, etc). I was surprised at their beer selection though, as they had many different bottles (no draft) to choose from. P.S. you can enjoy some suds before you play! read more

This is a really solid spot for a work team event, which is the only capacity in which I've played whirlyball. It's basically teams of 5 playing lacrosse in bumper cars, using jai alai scoops and plastic balls as their equipment. The sport takes just a few minutes to learn, so you can get on the courts and start competing in no time! It was also a ton of fun--we were here for nearly three hours, and time just whizzed by. There are various arcade games, darts, foosball, and air hockey available to entertain folks who aren't out on the whirlyball court. This worked out well for us since we had ~30 people, and only 20 people can play whirlyball at any given time. The venue was also able to cater pizza and salad, all of which tasted fairly decent. Overall the Whirlyball game was fun, although the kids appeared bored after awhile. My daughter invited her club volleyball team to celebrate her 12th birthday. We had 7 girls, a few of their siblings and adults. The staff was helpful and food was decent. Things got weird when we were told our group had to move from the main facility into an overflow room that wasn't even heated due to a large group coming in for a memorial service to remember someone that was a big Whirlyball player. You can't make this stuff up. The owner told me we had to be done eating and gone within an hour and to exit via an outside door as not disturb the memorial service, which appeared non-existent other than people socializing. In fact, the owner even went as far as to move a foosball table to block the doorway from the overflow room into the main facility until I told him he needed to move it out of the way. In short - it was all a money grab to the tune of $700. It ruined my daughter's 12th birthday, which as a parent I can never get back and we left not feeling great about how we were treated. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Go somewhere else and save yourself a lot of money. read more

I booked this place 2 months in advance for my husband's 35th birthday party in mid December last year. Our group ranged from 60 something year olds to teenagers. Every single person loved this activity. 25 of us were there for 2.5 hours. It was plenty time to play. The customer service here is amazing while you're booking and also in person. They had to move our event time to an hour earlier and in return for the inconvenience, they gave us 2 free pizzas. * Pizzas are really good! * Beer served in bottles * Menu is set up so that people can certainly buy food individually if they choose * You can also tell your guests to order food & drinks on your tab, and you can pay at the end * Kids need to be older than 8 years old to participate. read more

What do you get when bumper cars and lacrosse make babies while cheating with basketball? Whirlyball! Seriously, Whirlyball is a pretty aggressive "sport". You wouldn't think it's super intense but check yourself! You're agreeing to much more than just playing- being sore and bruised with tired knees, and repeated whiplash all while having fun! We were treated to Whirlyball by Consultants that work with us. Let me tell you, even if you're the most athletic person in the world, it will be awkward turtle until you get the hang of it. There's really no strategy to bringing your teammates down, it's all in the wrist! The 12 minutes goes by fast! My company covered the food, so not sure how much actual Whirlyball costs, but there's a wide variety of only fried foods. We ordered ahead of time and food was brought out staggered. We didn't get everything we ordered because 1. people can only eat so much fried food, and 2, Debbie mentioned she didn't want to be constantly cooking. That's fine. After 2 appetizer plates, a veggie tray (fresh!), and a plate of wings, it was enough. I found all the fried food overwhelming and there's limited vegetarian options available. Wish they had healthier food options, but if you don't really want anything on their menu, eat beforehand. The best way to communicate is through phone. I emailed a couple of times to arrange a private space and food but had to follow up with a few phone calls to get everything squared away. Overall, it was a fun and entertaining experience. My bumper car actually caught on fire (yes, FIRE!!), which was a little scary but they handled the situation well. I got out of the car, they opened the doors and wheeled yellow 7 out and wheeled in a replacement. HOLYSHIT my bumper car was on fiyaaaahhhhhh! When I was told that my buddy's bachelor party would include a couple hours at Whirlyball, I thought for a moment we were going to a male strip club featuring men with really stretchy.... ...Well, you get the picture. (If you don't, give it a couple years until you're in junior high school. That joke will be REALLY funny to you then.) During a random conversation with random people on the street, I brought up Whirlyball to see if any of them had ever played it. One fellow had, and warned me that I should bring lots of quarters to play video games, as he had gotten bored of it immediately So I was a bit nervous. I haven't been much for arcade games in years, since I was a graffiti kid in Los Angeles, and my 'crew' hangout was a local Mexican food joint with Street Fighter and Chopper Command. Besides, I like to keep my quarters to perform my famous "Most Awful Magic Trick in the World." Or buy 'Homies' from dispenser machines. However, I think that guy was the exception to the rule. Maybe Whirlyball wasn't "cool" enough or something. I don't know, but we all thought it was a blast. Our crowd of 18 Bachelor Celebrants descended upon Whirlyball like Moses from the mountain, except imagine, if you will, that Moses tripped on his way down and rolled for several hundred feet, sending rocks, roots, and holy tablatures descending upon his follower's heads while they worshiped a golden cow. That'll teach'em! OK, obviously it's time to make a new paragraph, as I am just totally rambling with random metaphor that even I cannot explain. Where was I... ah yes. Whirlyball. Call ahead and reserve space, and make sure to show up with at least 10 people. Five on five seemed to be the magic number. Give yourself at least two hours. Seriously. You're going to wish you had more time. When we rambled in, they brought us out onto the court and ran through the rules. The gaming field is about twice the size of a basketball court, indoors. There are two sets of bumper cars. Everyone has to fasten seatbelts and hold a racket, similar to the netted end of a lacrosse stick. You steer using a weird crank that allows you to turn, move forward or in reverse, and destroy your chest and sternum if you're speeding along and hit the wall at full tilt. You score points by flinging a ball against a pressure sensitive net a little bigger than a basketball hoop on a backboard. The two backboards are colored to match the cars (red or yellow), so it's hard to get confused and shoot at the wrong net, unless you're color blind. You're not allowed to hit other people with your racket, or even hit their racket with yours. You can pass the ball to each other, which is basically like a whiffleball and doesn't hurt (too much) if you nail someone with it. It's difficult to steer a bumper car with a crank while playing banging into other people and trying to catch or pass the ball. Shooting isn't too easy either. Honestly, athletic skill doesn't figure in too much, so if you're not 'naturally' athletic, this can still be a very fun game. With a bigger group, you're going to wind up with people sitting out. Hence the arcade games and quarters. However, they also serve beer and food; we had a couple plates of chicken strips and fries, and the food was actually pretty decent. The folks working there were pretty nice as well. For a couple of hours of pretty good fun, a couple beers, and some food, I think we each pitched in around $25. read more
