I booked what I believed was a 3:00 PM appointment at this blow dry bar while traveling to Napa from the East Coast. Unfortunately, because of a time zone issue in their booking system, the appointment was apparently entered as 12:00 PM instead. I use Square regularly in NYC and have never experienced this kind of confusion before. What made the situation especially frustrating was the complete lack of accommodation or understanding when I arrived. I was simply told the issue was noted somewhere on the website, but if this is a known problem, it should be made extremely clear and impossible to miss -- especially for out-of-town clients visiting Napa. They also stated they called me around noon, but I never received a phone call or missed call notification. The experience felt disappointing and unprofessional from start to finish. Napa is known for hospitality and customer service, and sadly this business did not reflect that at all. I hope they improve both their booking communication and their willingness to work with customers when issues like this happen. read more

Kassandra and Carly from Whirlwind Blowdry were absolutely amazing. Kassandra did both my hair and makeup for my wedding and it was exactly what I was hoping for and more. I sent some inspiration pictures before my trial and funny enough some of them were actually her work before knowing we would be paired up, which made it a perfect pairing. The trial went perfectly and made me feel so confident going into the wedding, where we were able to make some small tweaks to make sure it was absolutely perfect and it was. Kassandra was great and such a calming presence that was a great way to start the big day. She also did an amazing job on my Mom's makeup, who never gets her makeup done, making her feel elevated but not overwhelmed. Kassandra also did the hair for my husband's mom and his sister, and they both were so pleased with how it turned out! Carly did an exceptional job as well, doing the makeup for my husband's mom, his sister and a bridesmaid! She brought a fun and light energy and felt like one of the girls hanging out with us. Everyone was so pleased with how their makeup turned out, accomplishing the different levels of makeup that everyone was hoping for. I love this place and it's one of the reasons why I love living in Napa. The people who work here are wonderful. My favorite is Thomas due to his personality and skills. Wow! Didn't know what to expect for a small, boutique blow dry bar. But it's in Napa, so I should've known it would have to be amazing. I frequently go to Drybar and Primp & Blow. Kassandra (I think that's how she spelled her name) did an amazing job on my hair. One of the best hair stylings I've ever had. She cleaned my hair really thoroughly (she washed it twice and took her time. I'm on day 3 of this blow out and it still looks great!), and took her time to dry and curl it. She even pinned back a piece of my hair that always get in my eyes. She pinned it perfectly, and it looked great the entire day for photos. So glad I came here and took the time to get my hair done! The other women in the salon who worked there were also really kind, and gave me a restaurant recommendation to Bistro Don Giovanni (didn't make it this time, but I'm going to visit another time for sure). Whirlwind is the absolute best! I am a regular and go once a week to have my hair washed, blown dry and styled. Everyone is super friendly, talented and very good with hair. I've been a client since 2017 and worked myself up to weekly appointments with Thomas because I can't live without them and him! He does such an incredible job with my hair, I don't even buy shampoo anymore!!! From the moment you walk in, the music playlist is awesome and sets the mood. Stacy the owner has done a wonderful job with selecting and hiring the stylists and they are all good! Also, she's done such a fabulous job decorating Whirlwind in a 50's theme with fun classic photos, old hairdryers, and other vintage items that the vibe is terrific. You won't be disappointed. Ava did my curls and lashes and she was so sweet and friendly, kind and a thorough professional. I snagged their 9 am appointment but needed my curls to last through an event ending at 10 pm. I had my hair ($78) and makeup ($68 + $15 eyelashes) done here for a wedding I was attending in the area. My up do "pile it high" took less than 30 minutes and turned out alright. It was more sleek and tight than I had wanted, as I requested "lose" and gently back, but it held in place throughout the night without any issues. The makeup artist was phenomenal though! She asked the right questions to get exactly the look I was after while also ensuring my makeup would compliment the outfit I was wearing to the wedding. She took the full hour to complete it. The makeup also lasted throughout the night and turned out well in pictures. Overall, the studio was cute and clean with a nice view of the river/ trees outside. I would definitely return if I needed professional makeup again, but would maybe try a different hair option such as a standard blow out (the pricing for the up do seemed a bit high, especially considering the time it took). read more

Requested a trim and blow out. They gave me a novice (she admitted this) who said she didn't know about the trim and didn't have her sheers. Borrowed someone else's and literally did three little snips saying I didn't need a trim! I showed her a picture of the same thing I had about five years ago. This was my first time here. I came a little early for my appointment and they were very busy. They told me to come back in 20 minutes and that was 5 minutes after my appointment. I would have never came earlier if I knew I couldn't wait there. The stylist was nice and accommodating but she didn't do what I wanted but that's ok. I asked for beach waves and she did tight curls. Came to Whirlwind for my wedding makeup. I don't normally wear much makeup but have had it done a few times other places and they tend to do the wrong tones. I have very fair skin and red hair. Was referred here and they did not disappoint. Very responsive to my comments.....I didn't want to racoon so we didn't do under eye mascara. I also was worried about the heat....it was a hot day and I have oily spots. She made note of that and adjusted to accommodate. The colors were great and gave just enough makeup to make me look special but not overdone. So Pleased! Would definitely recommend. read more

I've gone to the salon before for style and make up. I was very happy with that appointment. I recently saw that they had trim on the menu. I wanted to take some inches off my hair and provided a picture of the length I wanted. The gal cut my hair dry from the back and said she would add layers to the end to clean it up. I should've stopped her there but it was too late. After she cut the back and moved it forward I realized how short it was. It's not a bad haircut and it will grow but it's not what I wanted. She also charged me more money at the register because it ended up not being a trim and all I asked for was a trim. read more

very disappointing experience... we had reservations for the French Laundry, and wanted curls and volume I left with straight hair ( my hair is very curly ) and wanted spiral curls. I think they were skimping on the products because my hair was just frizzy by the end of the night! my sisters was flat, and our friends hair fell out by the end of the night I caled to complain and was given a refund for my hair however, it was a once in a lifetime experience and was hoping for fabulous hair! read more

Hair and makeup looked nothing like I requested and I ended up doing my own makeup for my wedding. I booked trial hair & makeup + wedding hair and makeup for a total around $782 including 20% mandatory tip. I shared photos in advance of my trial and also in person requesting a classic Ralph Lauren look, no caked makeup and wanted to look timeless. During my trial, my stylist insisted on fake lashes. I said I like the individual lashes but did not want heavy lashes. She insisted on a full strand of connected lashes which immediately drooped. Eyeliner was put on uneven, eye shadow was splotchy and the foundation was layered on like a heavy cake. I was 1 color and appeared 1 dimensional. I had to ask for blush and lip color. I was unrecognizable to myself and friends. Although the stylist was nice she was unable to take direction. She was also unsuccessful in putting in an heirloom pin into my hair and said it was difficult with her acrylic nails. I ended up having to do my hair. I told her to use heavy hold hairspray and she ignored me using a medium body. My hair fell on my car ride home. I shared this photo with the salon owner. Although the trial costs were only approx $250 of the $782 total - because they make you put a 50% deposit down, I was already $391 in despite only receiving $250 of services. The owner refused to give me even a partial refund on the trial and I was essentially forced to use them for one of the remaining services on my wedding day or be out $ because she wouldn't refund any portion of my trial. Her reasoning was that her salon is the cheapest for wedding hair and makeup in Napa. My reasoning for a partial refund is that her stylist was unable to take direction and I did not get what I asked for. I do not recommend using this salon for any important occasion. I couldn't wait to take my trial and hair makeup off and felt the makeup made me look old and unattractive. I highly recommend doing your own hair and makeup for your big day. read more

I love drybar and moving to Napa, I had to search the closest blowout/blowdry bars as I'm high maintenance (lol). When salons were allowed to operate, I made an appointment and was a swift process with good expected prices. Upon arrival, they check temperature and make sure you're wearing your mask, as do they. The salon is very clean and sanitary and I see people cleaning up after each client. I love all the stylists but Raquel is probably my favorite! Everyone is always super nice and on time and give great results. They also do lashes and makeup too! Get a package, it'll be cheaper! read more

I have been coming to Whirlwind for about 4yrs. During that time I've had multiple stylists blowout my hair. Let me begin by saying I have thick, bleached , textured ethnic hair which is difficult to work with if this isn't your regular clientele. From day one I have not been disappointed. Of course some stylists are more experienced than others with my hair type but I've never once in four years left unsatisfied. That's super impressive for the New Yorker in me to say. Alana has been doing my hair for about 50-60% of the time I've been coming here and I am so lucky to have found her. I tell her almost every time I see her . (There were some other fabulous stylists but they have since left as this is the nature of the beauty world.) Alana understands the needs of my hair and works with me to make sure she's achieving the look I want.
