Great little up-scale consignment shoppe in Salisbury run by a seasoned and studied gentleman. Walk…read morearound and take a good long look at the pieces on display and you start to appreciate the subtle but distinct difference between cost and price and value. Came in the first time on a lark: stopped in town for a nosh and a sweet after looking at a trailer up the road a piece and on my after-luncheon constitutional I happened across this trove of treasures. Looking through the glass I spied more and better items than I've seen in my wanderings of late; even those items that run contrary to my tastes are appealing for their substance if not their styling. I stepped inside half looking for a bright wall sized piece for the living room and found everything else instead. Jeff and I exchanged pleasantries and a few adjectives as we discussed the variety of items and how this all got to North Carolina. Turns out that the items in store come from clients across the country with the possible exception of the upper plains. Urns, vases, and statuary; period furniture and screens; silks, oils, prints and water colors... capturing all manner of subjects from wood ducks to orchids to the human form. In a blow molded world with press board bases and faux finishes Stately Homes houses an assortment of enduring and endearing objects. Yes, it is someone else's stuff, but I'm not sure how that's even a thing.

This is a magnificent shop with a knowledgeable and helpful owner…read more The antiques, jewelry, art, furniture, and decoratives are beautifully selected and well priced. If you're tired of resin molded plastic and particleboard, Stately Homes is a breath of fresh air. Enjoy the interlude there is so much to discover - a treasure trove of the fine things.

Ughhhh no. This place is not for me. I guess if you live in Salisbury, and refuse to venture the…read moreshort distance down to Charlotte then I could almost see how you would convince yourself this place is worth going to. But even then, you've got to have a pretty skewed idea of what the rest of the world refers to as "standards." I think the main component of this place is the shop on the first floor, which is more of a random assortment of crap, that happens to be placed in jigsaw puzzle like manner. If there was ever anything you actually wanted to find here there is no way you could. I have a pretty strong opinion that there is a valid market for "antiques" but nobody wants to buy "old junk," which comprises the better part of the inventory. On the basement level is the wine "cellar," as they call it, and there is an actual temperature controlled room with a few wine bottles, but you can't actually get in to see it. All you see is dust-laden shelves with a mediocre sampling of mostly grocery store wines. Each thing on the shelf is typically just 1 bottle, so if you want more you have to special order it. There is a large section of North Carolina wines, all of which are just plain awful in my opinion. They also do wine tastings down in the basement, I believe on a weekly basis. This pretty much consists of the group of old people showing up every single week and gossiping while complaining about the wine that's being offered. I reluctantly attended a few of these and I was appalled at peoples' behavior considering they were getting outstanding wine and a few hor'dourves for next to nothing.

There's been a lot of talk about Trosa Thrift store around town lately. I've seen it all over…read moresocial media so a friend and I decided to check it out on a Friday afternoon. Trosa is located on Peters Creek Hwy in the Food Lion strip center at the Clemmonsville exit. It's easy to get to and there's plenty of parking which I love. Right inside the door is their whole furniture section, they have tons of tables, chairs, dressers , etc. they even have a whole section of office specific furniture. The prices are very reasonable. This would be a furniture flippers paradise. Towards the back they have shelves of everything from pillows to whole sets of dishes, sports equipment and the most medical mobility equipment I've ever seen anywhere. I'd say, if you are in need of a walker, a bath seat or portable toilet for someone look here because they probably have it at a fraction of the cost it would be to purchase new or rent. The clothing is grouped all together but they aren't keeping it organized as well as it needs to be. All different sizes were mixed in together and I quickly got frustrated and gave up. Both of us had found an item in the kitchen area we wanted so we headed to check out. The workers were very friendly as well. I'll definitely be checking out Trosa regularly in the future. Trosa supports substance abuse treatment. If you want to donate to them, they offer pick up for larger items or you can bring your items to their donation drop off around the back of the store. Just follow the signs.
