Tow driver that came out had an attitude when I asked for a flatbed tow truck as my BMW had a "drivetrain" error code and I didn't want to risk damaging it with a traditional tow. He told me he would have to talk to his supervisor from his truck, so I waited for an explanation on how best to tow my car but he drove off without speaking to me. Scared of women I guess. Oh and this was my second attempt with Wheeler - last week they wouldn't tow it because there was a snow bank next to the car. read more

I called Triple A today because I needed a Tow. I had great service from Angel today. He came right away much faster then the time I was given by Triple A. He was fast and efficient. It was greatly appreciated. read more

Wheelers Auto helped my son with a major engine issue. They were attentive, professional and went the extra mile to make sure the car was repaired and safe on all levels. This is not the first time they've come through for our family and I highly recommend this garage for your auto repair needs. read more

Wheelers has great quality service. I had some brake issues with newly installed brake pads and discs. Since the brakes had excessive noise, I brought my car to their shop and they replaced both with no extra charge. I highly recommend Wheelers in Hamden. Our family has been going there for over 5 years now. Excellent overall ! read more

I've had my car serviced a few times there now. I believe they are priced better than other garages and there seems to be quality work.

as for service call AAA they showed up they before they even showed up. They said they don't have the right size for a car as he pulled up and said he can't do anything and drove off so I'm just a little confused on how I'm paying the amount I'm paying for someone to come out. Pull up hop out of the car with some girl in the car so it's very unprofessional. You're being family members with you and just saying I can't do anything about it and leaving very bad service. read more

My daughter who's studying at Quinnipiac had a vibration issue with our 07 Nissan Altima. Wheelers was able to immediately see her and fix the issue which would've become extremely serious if not repaired. As a parent it is very difficult to diagnose cars when you live in another state. Thank you for incredible service! Jamie Gibson read more

Wheelers has performed excellent repair on both my 1989 Porsche 944S2 and my 2008 MazdaSpeed 3. If you need work to be performed on a Porsche, ask for Todd, even if you have to wait a couple weeks before he has availability in his schedule. He is fantastic with Porsche cars and has done great work on my old 944, including his most recent work where Wheelers had to tow my car to their shop because it wouldn't start. Compared to the Porsche dealer, you will save a LOT of money, and, more importantly, they won't replace parts or do work unless it has to be done. Their approach to customer service is second to none, starting with Tony at the front desk. read more

The service at Wheelers was excellent from start to finish. When I call to get body work done on my car, all of my questions were answers and I was reassured that my car would be repaired with great care and I was told approximately how long it would take to complete the job. Excellent customer service! read more

Wheelers Auto Service was fantastic!! Not only did they so a great job with the collision repairs on my car but they also helped me understand how to navigate the convoluted auto insurance company policies. read more

I called AAA one morning when I got stuck on the Merritt Pkwy with a flat one morning recently - quarter mile from the exit. AAA said Wheelers would contact me when driver was on the way. They knew I was in a dangerous spot off the road with no shoulder. an hour and a half later, after 3 calls to AAA, (yes 90 minutes) AAA finally switched over to Mike's Auto. They said Mike's would be there in 10-15 and George from Mike's was actually there in 2 . Great, fast, courteous service. Thanks, George. I appreciate you. Wheelers may have been too busy. They should have at least called me or AAA to say so instead of stringing it out for 90 minutes. read more

Excellent repair shop. We broke down while traveling and they got us right back on the road. Tony was very helpful.

Consistently great service. Every time I bring my car in for work it's done quickly and professionally. I am so glad I found this shop. Try them! Tom O. read more

Horrible experience would not recommend to anyone to use their towing service. They have extremely unprofessional individuals working for the AAA towing that they offer. Should be written up and fired for the things he said, completely wrong person to have as a face for the company. read more

Bad service ever. I never got service like this. I got a car involved 6 car accident on Sunday. They charged me service time $150, Total charge $200, Special equipment $65. Wheelers Auto Service - Auto Repair Near Me - Hamden, Connecticut

Turns out they use fake parts from China. Brought my Camry in for a tune-up. The price seemed high, but I needed to get back to Mass as my check engine light came on. I was sold bad plugs according to Midas in Webster mass who looked over the car because I had a burning smell. Not only were they knockoffs from China, but they also forgot to tighten my oil filter and almost had complete motor failure!! I wish I looked at these reviews first, but they seemed nice and took me for a ride. Not acceptable. read more

The team at Wheeler's were great from the start! My husband and I called several mechanics in the Hamden area and no one was willing to even look at my car because of the issue I was having with my Q3 (multiple lights on in the dashboard/electrical problem). Wheeler's squeezed us in and did a brief evaluation and gave us a an idea of what could be the problem. We later scheduled an appointment with them and they explained in full detail what was going on and the costs associated and gave me options. They were transparent with everything going on. We really appreciated their honesty and assurance! read more

Terrible service, called for a tow and requested a flat bed and they sent Brett....big mistake, he was rude and for some reason thought they were the only tow service in town. Tried to hook up my car and I refused...I will wait a year for a tow before I use them. read more

Dishonest! Dishonest! Dishonest! They towed my car away, even though I was legally parked. All because one of their drivers blocked me in; trying to pick up a girl and he didn't like the soft beep from my horn to move.I was on my way to work. Avoid at all costs! Look at the reviews. See the ones not recommended by yelp; that's how bad they are. read more

My truck broke down on 91 north. I immediately looked for towing companies in the area. I found Wheeler's online and called them. They were there within 25 minutes to tow my box truck which I use everyday for work. I explained to them that I need repaired asap or else I would need to rent a truck for work. Not only did they repair it within a day after the parts arrived they were in constant communication with me to let me know what was going on. I have never used them before but I will from now on. I am writing about our experience when we paid our bill at Wheelers Auto. The guy behind the desk did not give my his husband his 86 cents change. My husband asked the guy politely to "round up" our change and the guy dumped a dunkin donuts cup of change in front of us and said "I don't deal in change." Some of the change got thrown out of the cup hitting the floor and me. He then said take it all! I asked him the name and number of the owner and he said, "I am the owner." I walked out shocked and in disbelief questioning humanity and how one can treat someone in that way? My mother has been taking her car here for many years, but I've always taken my car to the dealer for warranty work. Today, I had to get my driver's mirror replaced after a minor accident, but was concerned, because I was paying out of pocket. They quoted me in less than five minutes yesterday, ordered the part for me overnight without asking for a deposit. I came back this afternoon and they did the work in one hour, while I waited. When they told me the car was ready, the bill was $30 LESS than they quoted. 5 stars from my point of view. read more

I recently got into a car accident and AAA towed my car to Wheelers Auto Service. When I had the choice to either tow my car to another auto service that worked directly with my insurance company, or keep it there, I took the chance. I had been searching for a small business mechanic that was trustworthy for a while since I moved and had not found one yet. Although it did take them three weeks to fix and return my car, it unfortunately was during the holiday season. Each time I spoke to Paul on the phone, he was polite and to the point- my type of mechanic. I appreciated the fact that he did have a business to run and did not have time to butter me up, the ultimate goal for both he and I was to finish my car. Perfect. When I did pick my car up, all of the staff were polite and respectful. I needed a new hood and repairs and replacements to a few parts within, along with a new paint job. The gentlemen who worked directly on my car, Orlando, walked around the car with me and explained all of the work he did on my car. He was very patient with me as I am not a mechanic and had tons of questions. He answered and explained everything to me and ensured that, by any chance something was not correct in the next few days, to come back and he would take care of it. Paul and the staff did an amazing job on my car and I was very pleased. My sisters and I will be making them our permanent mechanics. He truly works for the customer, very satisfied. read more

I've been going to Wheelers for over two decades. They are professional, reasonable and rational when it comes to taking care of the many of the cars I have owned. They have made honest recommendations of when a complete repair/replacement part is needed and when an affordable, reliable work-around can be executed at a significant cost savings. Their technicians are laser focused on getting the job done right. If you look in the service area, it is spotless and populated (at times) with exotic high performance cars and rare collectables. These cars belong to their customers with high standards that have selected Wheelers for all the right reasons. John, Paul, Mike and Todd make a dynamic team that cannot be beat. Honesty permeates the entire organization. read more

Awesome service and quality work! Got my car towed here on Tuesday and had it back by Friday and it needed a ton of work. Runs better than ever and Mike was great. I won't take my car anywhere else in Hamden for any work from an oil change to a tune up to major repairs. read more

Great service from Paul and the crew at Wheelers. My car was towed there when it was hit in an accident. Paul was very kind and helpful in dealing with the insurance company with the storage. If I could give zero or negative stars I would. This company is the worst company I have ever come into contact with in any industry. They not only mistakingly towed my car because they didn't bother to find out the license plate number, but when I called to ask about what had happened they offered no apology, no acknowledgement that they had done anything unusual or wrong, and were extremely rude to me. Despite the fact that I was civil with them, when I told the man on the phone that I was disappointed in their company, he said "oh really?" and hung up the phone. Stay away from this place at all costs. read more

Towed my car from my apartment parking lot for no reason and forced me to pay $175 in cash because his store was "closed" so he didn't accept cards. I had to go all the way to the bank to get cash and wait over an hour and a half for him to arrive to the store. Do you just tow people's cars to make money? And why are you towing my car when you are closed? Several people were working but apparently no one could get me my car except the one guy who took forever to get there. He was very rude. read more

They towed my truck from hamden to Clinton 3/13/2017through AAA the driver said to me as he got there to tow my truck . I hate using the flatbed he does not use to often . ( my truck is 4 wheel drive so requires flatbed or dollies) The guy over tightened the j hook on the winch and bent my axle shaft by hooking the axle shaft rather than lower control arm while chaining down on flatbed Totally bent my axle shaft . They/ adjuster (through AAA ) came out and looked at it . 2 days later .-/Said it was bad tire ,,,Told me to put on spare tire and call them and let them know if it fixed it by putting spare tire on guy did not have time to wait for me to change tire ??? . He told me if still a problem they would bring to Guilford Texaco ( aaa repair facility ) to have it checked ,,, never returned my phone calls and left me hanging ..--- called all week no return call from so called adjuster. I returned call to AAA they told me to contact Paul the manager -3/29/2017 I call and talked to Paul (manager) he told me to bad not going to even look at truck again ,the truck had a bad tie rod end . ---The adjuster said it was a bad tire ??? . Paul the manager in not a nice way said he is not fixing anything I am on my own . I repaired it myself at a cost of $400/ parts with out labor cost for me . What does a bad tie rod have to do with hooking the axle shaft and bending it rather the rite way of hooking lower control arm ( need to train that young driver better )making me go without a vehicle for over a week . That I had to repair myself Don't use this place , very unsafe towing practices and probably mechanics that don't know what they are doing --said it was caused by bad tie rod ??? Even AAA won't help me they tell me to contact Paul the manager at wheelers because they are a sub contractor for AAA read more

These people do not even deserve a star. They illegally tow cars and then the customer service is just awful. They lied about where the tag was in our car because THEY made a mistake. They will not help you in anyway and they think they are always in the right. My husband and I had to miss work, then pay a huge fee for a mistake they made. Pamela J had it right they are the bottom of the barrel and STAY AWAY! read more

Friendly staff. Excellent body work. I've used them many times for service and have no complaints.

The guy that came to fix my flat tire was super nice. But he wouldn't touch my spare tire because he said the tube attached that you can use to check the pressure was rusted to the tire's valve and therefore he couldn't get it off without breaking it off, rendering the tire useless. (To save room, the tire is attached under the back end of the car. You can test the pressure without removing it.) He tried just once to unscrew it. I asked him to try again and he refused. He told me to go to the dealer to get my spare fixed. So instead I went home and sprayed some WD40 on it and guess what, the tube came right off! I'm glad I didn't listen to his advice. The only reason I'm giving a good score is because the guy was so nice. He was even pleasant after I asked him rudely to try harder--I mean he literally looked at it once and gave up, plus I was quite exasperated after waiting for three hours! read more

I too am writing in regards to a billing dispute at this business. When I realized my car had been towed by this company, I called to see how much it would cost for me to reclaim it. Over the phone I was passed along to at least 3 different employees all of whom were unable to provide me with a quote. I was given price ranges from 120-150 dollars. Finally I received a price and went to claim my car. When I got to the establishment, the manager asked ME how much it cost. I replied by saying I didn't remember the exact amount and asked him how much he had written down. He then asked me again how much it was going to cost. I insisted I didn't remember since I was given a few prices over the phone. He then asked me how much cash I had in my hand and to just give that to him. I responded by saying no, and again asked for a price quote. At this point, the manager pointed to his employee behind him and said, "If he had answered the phone for you it probably would have been $30." Instead, I was charged $148.62. Looking at the receipt of charges that I was given, the total comes to $123.62. Frankly, I am appalled at the condescending behavior and shady business practices of the manager at this place. I must commend his employee who has to deal with him, because that employee was polite and tried to be helpful. I feel obligated to share this experience as a warning to other patrons. read more
