I went to Wheeler High School. It is named after Joseph Wheeler, who was supposedly in the KKK. While I was at school here, there were a lot of fights. One afternoon I saw a truck of guys ride into the senior parking lot holding guns. Wheeler High school is often pronounced 'WILLER HI'. On their announcement board that sits in front of the school it currently says that they were just ranked in the top 5% of all national high schools by Newsweek. I wonder how many schools are in the top 5% of all national high schools. I had some memorable teachers here. Mr Carter Ms Taaffe Ms Carter Ms Frazer. I felt like I got a good learnin' here even though I slept through a lot of my classes. High school. I would not like to go back to high school but often I dream I am and it feels like I've been fed taco love boat again and again and again. Nowadays WILLER is much bigger than it used to be. They have a huge new gym and terrarium. I go behind the school to run on their track. I see people online that also went here and I talk to them. WILLER WILDCATS say growl. read more

I was here as a spectator this weekend. Wheeler High School hosted an AAU basketball tournament and my little cousin was here playing. The school looks really nice from the outside, the only place I really speak on is the gymnasium since that's where we spent the most time. The gym is really nice, the bleachers are the hard plastic and were the school colors and spelled out Cats in yellow. Nice touch. The auxiliary gym was hot and nothing to call home about but it served its purpose. I would say the lady they had cleaning worked her heart out because it was so many people in and out of the gym it was just overwhelming for her. I'm gonna be brutally honest here, this school needs to figure it's problems out. I'd say that this school on average is okay.....But the problem here that's keeping it from being above average is it's alarm system. There have been four false alarms regarding danger in the school (mainly everyone thinking there's an attacker on the loose) all because the school has a terrible way of calling for help. This has caused high levels of anxiety to arise in students and maybe even staff. School is already stressful enough, add on the constant annoyance and worry of another false alarm, that's just crazy. If there's a fight that's broken out and an administrator needs help they press the button, which so happens to be the button they press if there actually was an attacker or something that requires 911 right away. If only Wheeler would fix that problem, then they'd have it all. i would like to start out by saying that the only reason i am writing this right now is because i stumbled across this single review of wheeler while trying to google to the school's homepage. the ridiculousness of the previous review was enough to prompt a response out of me (which is saying a lot considering it is almost 5 o'clock and i'm on spring break). while the previous review from blake b did have some underlying truths to it (wheeler is diverse), overall it was was one of the most inaccurate and one-sided things i have ever read, not to mention that it was borderline racist. the truth of the matter is that wheeler is an incredible school in all aspects (and i would like to mention that the percentage of black/white/hispanic/etc students has nothing to do with that). as a current senior at wheeler high school i would like to say that i could not be more pleased with the foundations that wheeler has laid for me. one of the main issues people have with wheeler is its diverse student body. while i'll admit i was worried at first, the diversity was truly a blessing. because of it i know i am now much more prepared for the heterogeneous life that awaits me beyond high school. in fact, i believe that those who are confined to an atmosphere where there is little variation will be hampered in the long run. along with diversity, another point of pride is there dedication to excellence. no matter what facet you choose to look at, wheeler can be found near the top. examples include: its steadily increasing standardized test scores, its countless sports titles (including the most recent addition of winning state in boys basketball), and its focus on higher education through the magnet program and AP classes. in addition to education and sports, wheeler's arts and extracurricular clubs/organizations rank among some of the best in not only the state, but the world. some brief examples include the robotics team which will be competing in the international division later this month and the chorus which have been invited to sing in the new year of 2010 in dublin, england. for fear of being one-sided like the other review, i will now briefly cover a few drawbacks -parts of the school are old and in need of repair -when it comes to scheduling magnet kids get priority -large campus so distance between classes can be considerable -i am actually struggling to think of more so i'll just throw in mediocre school food (duh) read more
