We went to Wheaton nursery to find good privacy trees for our yard. With the help of a worker, we were able to select the ones suited for the space. They were able to deliver and plant (at extra cost) and have 1 year warranty so if they don't work out, it's nice to know they stand behind their trees. read more

I recently hired Wheaton Nurseries for landscaping work . My project involved Re- shaping and edging planting beds , re- positioning some existing plants as well as adding some new plants , one new decorative tree , laying some sod and re- positioning some existing rocks and pavers . Overall, they are very knowledgeable and thorough . They designed a plan for me and then fully executed . The workers showed up and executed the plan beautifully. Everyone knew what needed to be done and was prepared. Angel , the designer, showed up on site to inspect and supervise . This team is very professional, knowledgeable and well trained . These are not lawn service guys who can also do some plantings for you . They are experts. Having said that , they are also very expensive . The materials and the labor are all expensive . So much do that I had to break my plan into 3 phases . I used a more economical company for a job earlier in the year and felt that company did not give me good advice and I will probably have to re- do that job this summer . With Wheaton Nurseries you will pay a lot , but your project will be well done . I have no complaints about the work or the materials and will look forward to using them again for phase 3 of my project this summer . The only thing preventing me from giving 5 stars is the pricing . I knew I could have bought the plants elsewhere for less . read more

Wheaton Landscape and Garden is on Roosevelt, and I just drove in to check it out one day. Apparently they've been around for more than 100 years (est. 1895). Parking is in a gravel area next to what you came to see, the plants. They had beautiful herbs (very small selection, though it included some plants, such as tarragon, which you don't see often) in terrific shape for 99 cents for a 3" pot. I buy a lot of herbs and no one sells them that cheap until the end of the season - this is a great price, and the plants were in better shape than I've seen at most nurseries. Some of them came in pots you can just plant directly in the ground- no plastic throwaway pot to discard. One drawback - not all the herbs were labeled. They had vegetable plants for 99 cents too. I only looked at the perennials in detail, though they had some annuals too. They had some of the healthiest looking vinca I've seen at a pretty good price (flat of 6 for $9.99 - you can buy it much cheaper on line but it doesn't look this good, and there's no shipping). We'll see how it does. It was grown in St. Charles, so presumably will do well here. I asked the folks at the shop for some tips for getting it started and they were pretty helpful. In addition to selling plants and doing landscaping, they sell statuary - if you've been telling yourself "I really need a bronze statue of children playing," they've got it. I was in a hurry, but this would be an interesting place to poke around. Their website features an interesting Plant Finder - tell it what color, how tall, when you want it to bloom, and what kind of sun you've got and it will spit out a list of plants for you to consider. read more

This year, I went all out in the 'let's try to out-do Martha Stewart' department as far as gardening is concerned. What was I thinking? Out-do the Queen of perfectionistic planting? I should have my head examined. But, being Gemma, I expanded my horizons and stopped in at this long standing garden center to see why other cars were there. Once in, do two things: (1) grab a cart and (2) expect to leave with more than you anticipated. I am a Geranium girl: simple, classic, safe. But I am also a Geranium girl because they always make a good showing and always make you look like a garden star. This garden centers gigantic pre-potted Geraniums were not only gorgeous but ultra healthy. I have never seen anything like them: I grabbed two of the violet stunners. Their hanging plants were lovely, in assorted sizes; but what got me were the small to medium pre-set wildflower baskets. Multicolored and multiflowered, they work for me as they pretty much do all the work themselves; water as needed. If you stop here, meander around. They have larger nursery bushes and plants, as well as some beautiful chimes, in three sizes. Last purchase: one in medium. I would give this location 5 stars for the quality of the plants, but it was pricey and I felt the service could have been much friendlier. Extend yourselves; some of us are garden challenged but open minded. Will I be back? Yes and even Martha would approve of this 4 star rating...I think. read more

Wheaton Landscape and Garden Center is much bigger than it appears from Roosevelt Road. Keep meandering back through the pretty little gardens, displays, and nursery stock. There's more here than you think, even a garden with a miniature railroad. Wheaton Landscape and Garden Center also sells various pots and garden ornaments plus seasonal items like pumpkins, corn stalks, and hay bales. I need to remember to visit around Christmastime. In fact, I should remember to come to this garden center more often in general. I have often found just the right plant here and the plants have thrived. And while more expensive than big box stores, I have by chance gotten sale and clearance plants. Their everyday prices are certainly competitive with other independent nurseries in the area. Although the staff seem knowledeable, they are not always warm or helpful. Sometimes there are not always enough of them and you have to track them down to ask your question or to check out. read more

Bought a supposedly RED rhubarb plant there last yr. Been waiting and waiting. All I got is green. A neighbor said they had it mis marked. I didn't know it came in anything other than red. Now I got junk! That I have to pull out and throw away Still got the tag saying it was supposed to be red So I've been trying to call them Several times!! It says they r open. BUT NO ONE ANSWERS THEIR PHONE don't think I'll ever go back !!!!! read more

Don't be fooled by how kind and helpful they are. The price they quote is half the price they charge for a project. The terms of the contract change as they make up the terms as they go along. Example $1,120 planted doesn't mean digging out the grass where the bushes go. Then what does planted mean? Unfortunately I hate plastic edging, but now look at it everyday. I purchased an Autumn Blaze tree at Wheaton Nursery 7 years ago to replace an Ash we had to remove which had provided badly needed shade. The first year or two were good for growth but then the tree was noticeably under stress. Over the next two years I called Wheaton Nursery twice to ask them to come out and look at it. They would come out and provide the tree some TLC and we would hope for the best. The tree had rebound years but ultimately became a lost cause. Seven years after that first Autumn Blaze was planted I gave up on it and contacted WN. Shortly after, They came out to take a look. Way way past my expired warrantee and after their review, I was told they would replace the tree at no charge!!! A hard working, polite crew of two showed up today and planted a gorgeous Redpointe Red Maple!! No charge!! I am overjoyed by the extraordinary response to my inquiry. Purchased three arbor vitae in the fall of 2013. The brutal winter tooks its toll and the trees looked they were dying spring. All 3 were replaced at no cost. I'm not a landscaping expert...but from what I've seen their prices are a liltte higher than most places (big box stores), The 1/2 dozen or times I've been there...the employees are very helpful. I bought a garden statue, that was very over priced, but I knew my father would love it. After I had them load it into my car,I realized it required a lift truck to get it in and out of the trunk. Minutes after driving off, the trunk of my car was sagging and the 250lb+ statue was just too heavy for my trunk. I would not have been able to deliver to my parents house as a gift as planned. I bought it back immediately(within 5 minutes) and offered to buy two smaller statues that totaled the same price if they would take it back out of my car. The man was very rude and barked at me, that it would require a $25 restocking fee. I had no choice but to agree, but did not buy anything else. I will not be back there EVER again. Hard to believe they even stay in business treating people like that. Unbelievable...... read more
