On my first visit to Houston, Texas, we stopped at Whataburger due to its convenient location near the airport. The restaurant was easy to find and access. The overall setup reminded me somewhat of a blend between Wendy's and Carl's Jr. Upon entering, a cashier greeted us. We mentioned that it was our first time visiting and asked for recommendations. Unfortunately, she was unable to provide much guidance. When I asked about the sweetness of the strawberry shake, she shared that she does not like strawberries and couldn't comment on it. She did suggest the Dr Pepper shake, which did not appear on the menu and may have been a seasonal item. We ordered a triple meat burger meal (large, with fries and a Coke) and a jalapeño and cheese burger, requesting both without mustard. After placing the order, we were given a table number, and the food was brought out promptly. Service was fairly quick. However, the jalapeño and cheese burger was prepared with mustard despite our request. Since it was our first visit, we chose not to return it and instead removed the mustard ourselves. The dining area was clean and well-maintained. The staff appeared to be mostly young employees. While they wore gloves during food preparation, I did notice gloves being used to handle other surfaces without being changed, which may be an area for improvement. Overall, it was a standard fast-food experience -- burgers, fries, and a few additional menu items. While nothing particularly stood out, the location was convenient and the restaurant was clean. read more

I came to this Whataburger on 59 and Will Clayton because I wanted to show off the Texas favorite to a friend just arrived at IAH. The location is perfect. But it has a corky way of getting here. The employee was somewhat friendly to Texas standards. I had to explain to him afterwards. We got our order correctly. But my burger had an unusual appearance. The bun was folded with the wrapping paper. The burger had no flavor, except for the buttery bun. All the vegetables in the burger tasted fresh. OMG. I had to pour ketchup in my burger. We ordered standard size meals. The fries package looked smaller than the "medium" sized drink. And it was barely filled. Not sure if this was a sign of inflation or depression. I wish I had time to take pictures of the building and the surrounding in relationships to the freeway feeder road. The place became crowded right before we left the restaurant. Oh well. Every time we come to Texas, my husband has to stop at Whataburger--it's basically tradition now. We're from LA, so it's not something we get back home, and he's obsessed. Arriving at Houston international airport and therefore the motel after midnight, one is almost gleefully greeted with the proclamation that late night food is the domain of Whataburger. Armed with the kind of courage that comes only from a shiny new bright red car, we head out into the darkness to join the throngs of Texans who queue up for absurd times (familiar to those who visit In-N-Out) to enjoy the late night fare. Late night intoxicated parking lot etiquette aside, the progress moves us remarkably quickly. There was enough time in the queue to have the other half read a couple of reviews about Whataburger, one from Bon Appetit and the other from Mashable, so we felt ready to order. Guided by the most enthusiastic voice ever experienced at a fast food drive-up, we ordered a handful of things that seemed both reassuringly familiar and satisfyingly unfamiliar. Three stars for the novel flavor profiles. Everything had its character - written about at length elsewhere - and everything held the promise of being ordered again. One additional star for the interesting menu, enthusiastic stuff, and mindful packaging that included everything. Texans, you got late night dining pretty well in hand! Good job! read more

Catching red eye flights during the beginning of spring break calls for late night/ early morning on the go grubbing. Fridays during Lent are especially tough since I can't eat meat but Whataburger has those amazing potato egg and cheese tacos that do the trick, so no brainer right? Drive-through Service was friendly and courteous but at 3:27 am when there's no one in line it shouldn't take 15 minutes for 2 taco meals. Horrible customer service. I waited 30 minutes in my car for curbside. Finally got out of my car to ask about my order. Told me that they "barely got it" and took another 30 mins. It doesn't take much to fill me up so I usually get the #7 Jr with cheese combo! I love the grilled bun and all the toppings that comes with it. Stopped in today before meeting my son at the airport. From the parking lot the place looks really packed. I walked in the restaurant and there were a lot of customers but the restaurant was very clean and there are people everywhere helping customers. Too my surprise the line of four people dwindled down quickly and in no time (approx. 3-5) I was getting my order taken. I ordered the number 6- Whataburger Jr Double meat and small fry with drink and an apple pie. I received my order 3-5 minutes later. Totally different from my last visit. Great job WB. Granted...this Whataburger is near the airport...now let me ask you this...is ANYTHING near any airport going to be very good? No. I've lived in Texas for a minute now and I like Whataburger. I've come to learn that Texas is Whataburger country. You don't disrespect Whataburger especially around Houston. I love that if I ask for extra grilled onions or peppers there is no extra charge. So what do I think of this location in particular? Now...keep in mind that I've only been here a handful of times. Usually in the late afternoon to late evening. It's kept moderately clean. So that's good. But I EXPECT that a restaurant will be clean. So I don't award any additional points on cleanliness alone. Usually when I walk in nobody is working the counter. They are all working the drive through or back in the kitchen talking. I wait at the front register until someone comes up and says "sorry for the wait...ha ha" and then I place my order. The wait here is about 10 minutes to get your order. Ok that's not bad. Most Whataburger locations will bring out your order in around 5-10 minutes so that's not terrible. The quality of the food was just totally sub-par. The burgers are consistently blan...just totally void of any flavor. The fries are always cold! Not lukewarm or even warm and soggy but cold and stiff!!! Blah! Two stars...end of story. read more

I have been to this Whataburger about half a dozen times this year while either coming from or going to Houston's Intercontinental Airport. The good part is, the staff are very friendly, greet you with a smile, and seem like they genuinely care. The bad part is, the last four times I have been here my order is screwed up and today will be the last time I visit this location. I ordered a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit for breakfast this morning to dine in and, after about a fifteen minute wait my order was brought to my table - however, it was a chicken biscuit lathered with honey. I talked to the front counter lady who took my order and explained the problem, and she said what I ordered would be right out. I normally drop my husband off at work and go get him Whataburger Atleast once or twice a month. I come to this location because it's right by the airport so convenient! Never had a bad experience there until today. My husband bit into his sandwhich and the eggs had egg shells in them and the meat was pink. First time here,been waiting for a cool moment to come here. I ordered a patty melt meal. I mentioned to the clerk never been here before and she failed to mention that sauces are .38 cents extra. So now the only way for me to get ketchup and ranch and bbq sauce for my fries i have to get back in line. Chile...this whataburger is consistently slow....it was 5:30 am when I arrived to the drive thru. At that time there were only 3 cars ahead of me. Two out of the 3 cars had already ordered. From the time I had placed my order 10 whole mins had passed and the same 3 cars were still the hell in front of me....3 more mins pass by and the 1st car that had been at the window when I initially arrived at the restaurant finally leaves.
