You have to know you're going into Whale's Tale and getting casual bar food, served on paper and plastic cups. It's part of the charm. The food was honestly super yummy. We shared the street corn fries and wings as appetizers, and we each got 2 tacos. No drinks- the bill was $60 before tip. Wing flavor was good and they were decently sized. Fries were okay, and were just seasoned fries with some Cotija cheese sprinkled on top. The tacos were honestly delish. I had 2 pork tacos and my husband had the surf and turf and hot honey chicken. We loved all 4. Was the food good? Yes. Yummy and hot and fresh. Was it insane for taco lunch with no drinks to be $60? Also yes. Would I go back? Sure, if someone else is paying lol. read more

Street Fries - usually their fries are great and cooked with a superior crunch and coated with a nice flavored. Other times, they can be a little soggy. Bang Bang Shrimp - skippable. Very cute harbor side causal setting for drinks and heavy bars favorites like wings, tacos and other apps. Service was friendly and fast! We ordered nachos, plantains ('maduros) and 4 types of tacos. The hot chickens, crispy fish, cheese burger, and Korean steak. The best item bar far were the plantains.... Sweet and soft, not oily at all served with a bright lime crème. The rest was unremarkable to fault. The proteins on the tacos lacked any seasoning whatsoever and they were all room temperature. No hot... not warm... room temp. Between the lack of seasoning on the meat and the temps it was lack eat wet napkins. Had the proteins had even the slightest semblance of seasoning or any temperature it would've brought out the flavors from the rest of the condiments, but that didn't happen. The tacos were all basically cold and kind of wet because of all the vinegar in the slaws which they were topped with. Was to wet and heavy on the slaw. Basically turned all the tacos into slaw tacos...The nachos came out OK but instantly turned into a sloppy mess because the tortillas they use are so delicate and so overloaded in queso and crème that they pretty much become a sloppy floppy mess. These were also not warm. They should come out either deconstructed for dipping or use a more robust tortilla to withstand all the liquid.. maybe this is more of a burger wing place? Wales tail was a restaurant we frequented often on summer days a number of years ago since we live in the area but for whatever reason had stopped going. Today was a beautiful sunny summer day so I thought it might be nice to stop back in for lunch and enjoy the view the restaurant offers. We sat outside overlooking the pool and harbor at a high top. Our waitress Emma was sweet and attentive taking our order right away. We started with nachos and draft beer. The beer was cold and refreshing on this 85 degree day. We ordered the Cesar Mexican salad and three overstuffed tacos, the hot honey, the spare rib and the crispy fish. Everything but the salad was surprisingly delicious, I say this because nothing we ate seemed to be made in house. Everything seemed to come to the restaurant in a jar, box, bag or frozen and simply assembled in the kitchen. Don't get me wrong it all tasted fine, (excluding the salad because they just could not hide the "restaurant depot" add-ins"), but in my opinion was over priced for what it was. Nachos. Just note that Happy hour specials are only at the bar. The beers are fresh and rotating with some from the Harbor Head Brewery on the other side of the parking lot. One of my favorite dishes here is the Barbecue Chicken Quesadilla, always very good. I tried the Maui Chicken Tacos for the first time, also good. Any evening here for Happy Hour is good value drinks and appetizer specials. Having spent Happy Hour at the bar, I have to say that I received excellent service from the very busy bartender. Went for the first time of the summer today and ordered drinks on the rocks. A 2oz pour in a small plastic cup....imagine my shock when the charge was $18 each and A $10 UPCHARGE FOR "on the rocks"!!! We had 4 small (2oz drinks), 2 crappy bang bang shrimp tacos (2 overly fried shrimp per, overstuffed with lettuce and tomato) and shared a queso blanco app (which was yellow cheese? Blanco used to be white) with some greasy chips...total was $129 before tip! The ambiance at whales tales was really nice. The seating layout ans decor was well put together. Beautiful views of the marina and sunset. Tacos were really good. Queso dip was very watery, should have e a little more consistency. Service felt rushed, people constantly reaching over asking if we are done. Waitress seemed a little annoyed that we weren't ready to order when she came by. Lastly, the sangrias were not good. I tried both and I stuck with the red. I was recently in the area and after reading reviews from many Yelpers and several local Elites, I decided it was time to finally try this spot for myself. It was a Sunday afternoon and since I ventured out solo, I decided to grab a seat at the bar (I sometimes like to be a lone-wolf and go on solo adventures..try it out, it's fun!). I was immediately greeted by Anna, who was bartending/serving. She was super friendly, funny, and knows a lot about the area as well. After perusing the menu, I ordered a plantain and pork taco, some mussels, and... four rum punches. My rum days are way behind me but it seemed really fitting given the waterfront vibe, especially with the sun setting in the distance. The rum punch: Strong, super tasty, and did I say strong? The plantain and pork taco: The sweetness of the plantains and the richness of the pork paired very well together. When I took my first bite, my mouth immediately enjoyed the complimentary combinations of the soft, chewy, and semi-tough textures. It kind of reminded of the last time I went out to eat venezuelan arepas. The mussels: What a huge portion! For only $14, I didn't expect the mussels to come with so many... mussels. It was absolutely delicious. What was really awesome was that not a single mussel was served unopened. I've had some good and bad experiences ordering them from other places, and this was one of the best. The sauce so was flavorful that I would literally slurp from the bowl when I realized no one was looking and the coast was clear. Finally, if you haven't noticed by the photos... the ambiance is amazing. If you're not adventuring solo like I was, this would be a great date spot or a place to catch up with a group of friends. The food and atmosphere are wonderful here! My friend and I came on a Thursday night at 7:30 and were told an hour and half wait. Luckily we grabbed a beer across the parking lot at the brewery and the wait was less than an hour. So the reason for my 4/5 stars is that once our buzzer went off the hostess said "we can't guarantee you a table but we have two seats at the bar". Something that should have been told to us when we first got there. We were starving so we just ate at the bar. We shared the queso blanco and the loaded fries then each had a taco. Both apps were awesome! Flavorful and great portions. The Korean beef taco was out of this world. The beef was so tender it melted in your mouth.
