This is unprofessional. Today when I went in, what a total difference they were all apologetic and extremely nice and helpful. They must've been having a bad Friday.

"Dr. Lim was so cool, I sort of wish we were friends (instead of him being just some guy who stared up into my abyss). & there's none of the conversational awkwardness you get from most doctors (who tend to be bad at speaking to actual people)". When you have the full examination under anesthesia, Dr. Lim's office will also mail you a stack of color photo print outs of your insides with accompanying notes so you don't have to rely on vague descriptions of what is/ isn't abnormal up in there. I brought those to the specialist he referred me to; that person said it was helpful to have clear color photos for a change. After the surgery I wound up needing, that other specialist said my whole family should also get checked, so I convinced my sister to see Dr. Lim. She loved the guy, everything about the system & the procedure they have there (everything except for the actual butt examination, I assume) and she still mentions how much she liked him.

I went in because I was coughing and my nose was stuffy, wanted to make sure I didn't have something that needed antibiotics. I go in and one of the first things he asked is when was my last colonoscopy, then when was my last mammogram. He then tells me I have to come back and see his son to have a colonoscopy and writes me script to go across the street to a clinic they work with; I think it's my decision who I see and what procedures are done on my body. Then after telling him I'm hyper sensitive to antihistamines and on medication for cancer treatment, there was a back and forth for about a 1/2 hour where he kept telling me he was prescribing antihistamines for me and I kept telling him no I can't take them. Finally he says he's going to prescribe cough medicine. I go out to the girl at the desk and she says that I owed a $40 copay, I tell her what are you talking about, my insurance doesn't have a copay and I've reached out of pocket max on my insurance, she says there is still a $40 copay for the visit; I repeated I don't have a copay, what the heck are you talking about? She then realized she put the code in wrong. I go to the pharmacy to find out the medicine isn't covered on my insurance and has antihistamines in it! After another 45 minutes at the pharmacy they give me a replacement drug only to read on the paperwork Do Not Operate Machinery or A Car While On; Side Effects Dizziness, Drowsiness, and a Stuffy Nose among 25 other things. I call the office back and was told that they would give me paperwork to take a leave of absence from my job while on the medication, told them no way in hell!

Little can be done to make the preparation and actual event more palatable, but at least it can be simplified and made more humane with understanding of the emotional aspects of the test, and the physical challenges associated with drinking copious amounts of vile tasting fluids, a mandatory clear liquid diet for 36 hours before the operation, and the totally unpleasant process of emptying the lower gastrointestinal tract. Ugh! Gastroenterology Group at St. Mary Medical Center does it as well as possible. They invite you to their office weeks in advance to review the process in detail. Many pages of easy to understand instructions are provided. They record insurance information, and even offer samples of the preparation meds if the patient lacks coverage for this cost. On the designated day, when the effect of starvation and voiding is at max effect, their staff is courteous and compassionate in getting the patient ready for general anesthesia and the procedure itself. Everyone was skilled, patient and trained in low key interaction. From getting into those damn surgical gowns, to setting the intravenous lines in the arm, to nestling the pillow comfortably under the head/neck as you fall asleep, to the gentle wake up back in your personal space with juice and crackers, the flow is smooth and relaxed. That Dr. Barash advised I would likely have to return in five years for another scope almost seemed an afterthought.

This review is for the Hoboken Office. I would NOT recommend this office at all. Do yourself a…read morefavor and travel into the city for gastro care. This is mostly due to the administration running the office more so than the doctor himself. That's because unfortunately, I never got to meet Nayar. On my first appointment he apparently had an emergency procedure so I agreed to meet with his nurse practitioner instead. She ordered tests, which I took at a third party lab and paid for, but then I never heard back from anyone about the results or followup appointment even though they said they would. When I called about the results I found this office uses an unprofessional third party concierge service and CarePoint hotline that both act as gatekeepers for this office, so you cannot get ahold of anyone in the actual office without going in in person. The concierge is dishonest, at one point they even forwarded me to a telemarketing number instead of a real contact number. After calling multiple times, the person on the other end gave me numbers twice that were fake numbers or telemarketing numbers, basically playing games. One was to a random office in Jersey City and the other one was to a telemarketing company that tried to sell me a medical device as soon as I said hello on the phone. I tried to reach Nayar's office again and explained to the concierge that the numbers I was given the last times were not right and they said they'd leave a message with the doctor and someone would call back. Of course no one ever called back and I doubt they relayed any message. I also called the alternative number, which went to CarePoint concierge who said they'd relay the message to the doctor/office to call me back, and of course no one ever did. I doubt either concierge even relayed the message, even though they pretended to ask me for my information. Either that or the office just didn't bother to call back. They make it easy to call and make an appointment and become a patient (that's a different extension), but after that if you need to reach the office extension they play games, and you get lost in the system and the unprofessional third party outsourced concierges who are just there to run you around and prevent you from reaching the office line. I did not trust the office or the dr after that and will take my test results to another doctor in New York. I literally never heard from them again. Have no idea what my results mean (as some came back as abnormal) or what treatment is needed. Will be taking the results somewhere else. Finally, do your research before getting involved with CarePoint. I wish I had. They are apparently notorious for poor administration and billing practices. Check the reviews.
