i arrived STARVING on this Thursday evening and i am utterly appalled by the service i received !!!! A colleague member by the name of ethan felkin ( as known by asking for it as i was so utterly annoyed ) i started by asking for a simple sausage and chips and a steak pie and chips and i was then asked to pull up and wait in the car park when i approached the window so i proceeded as asked. after 45 minutes of waiting i stormed up to the window and complained about the service for this same server to have attitude with me and tell me i was in the wrong !!! Absolutely disgusted as he told me it takes ten minutes to cook sausages and could not explain to me why it took 40 minutes for a sausage and chips but was completely unsympathetic for the fact i had waited this long and completely disregarded my feelings on the situation. he responded with rude and snappy remarks such as " go fuck yourself you speccy eyed cunt " lol , this is complete jokes , xoxo ethan xxxx read more

Our first real England fish and chips experience! Very nice! Our friends often get take away here, and there is a separate door and service counter for that. But we were wanting a meal experience, so in we went. Wetherby Whaler offers a gluten-free fish batter, so we chose this location. Everyone has their favorite go-to fish and chip place, and Wetherby Whaler suited us just fine. Our server Tony was very pleasant and charming. He brought us drinks and took our orders straight away. The food arrived hot and fresh! The fish was the main attraction, very crispy without being greasy or loaded with too much batter - just the right amount. The chips were a little soft, I prefer a crisper chip. The only other knock I have is the smoking butler to the left of the main entrance was a mess. Inconsiderate people have dropped cigarette butts on the ground and the area needed cleaning - or removal altogether. A small negative observation on an otherwise outstanding dining experience. Overall I think a 4.5 experience. Modern facility with good staff and solid menu choices! Order with confidence. Now I don't know if this is a Yorkshire thing, but where I come from, a chippy is not a restaurant. That took me some time to get over... The food was smashing, great fish and chips. Does exactly what it says on the tin. The staff were friendly enough if not a little weird, but it did give my friends and I a topic of conversation. My final thing may offend, and I really hope that it doesnt, here goes. At 24 years old (at time of print), i was the youngest person in the place by a mile! The Wetherby Whaler is the best place in Wakefield for fish & chips as far as I am concerned whether it be takeaway or in the restaurant, I have been many times. read more

A great place to go for posh fish and chips! It's traditional, the staff are friendly and the prices are good, especially for the pensioners deal or the kid's meal. They also do great desserts - I used to love clown icecream, with sweets, sauce and an upside down cornet as a hat! The menu is quite limited, but that's what you expect in a fish and chip restaurant, and at least what it does, it does well. It's not particularly easy to get to without a car, and is a little way out of town, but I'd say it's worth the journey. read more

This is in my opinion the only place to go for fish and chips in wakefield.I have only ever used the takeaway section but the staff are really friendly and reasonable prices. The fish are probably the biggest i have seen!! We have family come and stay from other countries a few times a year and the first thing they want to eat is wetherby whaler fish and chips so they must be good. Going to pick them up can be a bit of a chore due to it being a car ride as they are on a retail park but you get used to it read more
