Another draw was the fact that it's right next to Sainsbury's, so you can park there and wander in - parking is not easy in Otley. In we went, and, as neither me nor my mate were absolutely famished, we decided to go for the "lite bites" - basically a smaller portion of fish and chips for £2.20 (I think full sized fish and chips was about £3.50). We got a fairly adequately sized piece of fish (which, according to a sign, was freshly caught in the Adriatic sea) and, along with the chips, it made a hugely tasty meal that wasn't quite a meal, if you know what I mean. Good value, friendly guy behind the counter, and they certainly know how to make fish and chips - would definitely go again.

I don't think it's as good as it's reputation suggests, however - it's often busy and I found the service to be slow last time I was there. The food itself was fairly good though - I only had chips but they were piping hot and greasy, just the way they should be. I still prefer Bondgate, a bit further down the road, but this place isn't bad. It's just not as good as people will have you believe. And it shamelessly uses the Chevin's name in vain.

I always thought that the best chippies were in less posh areas, but this chip shop in one of the more affluent villages outside Leeds does fish 'n' chips that look and taste as good as anywhere else. The fish actually tastes less greasy and more refined than what you get in a lot of fish and chip shops nowadays, and it was generally an enjoyable experience munching food from here.
