The service was fast and well-mannered. There were at least 8 people in the queue and still I didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for my order. It's a nice option that one can eat in, nice, comfy tables inside and outside. Highly recommended.

I hope this will help anyone who wants to reward businesses who treated their staff properly over the last few weeks, and avoid those who treated their staff badly. I have been working at Frydays averagely 25 hours a week since the beginning of 2020 (my only source of income). I was away on holiday for a week from Monday 16th March, which is when the situation really escalated and businesses began to close. I realised frydays would be closing, so approached the owners on Monday the 23rd asking for them to apply for the government allowance available for me to pay 80%of my wages, they refused with vague answers. I approached them again on Wednesday 25th, asking again for them to apply for the govt assistance for my wages, they responded by telling me that I had been fired from Frydays the previous week (when I was on holiday- this was the FIRST I had heard of this) so they weren't going to apply for it for me. There had been no problems, warnings, or suggestions I would be fired before this, so it was clear they had just invented this becuase they did not want to pay my wages during the time the shop would be shut, even though it would cost literally NOTHING out of their own pocket becuase the government would reimburse them. I have been left with no income, losing out on £160 a week (80% of my wages). I hope everyone will bear these stories in mind when choosing which businesses to support when things go back to normal.

Whilst I will admit, the fish and chips here are nice, Nash's Original Fish and Chip Restaurant isn't the best I've ever tasted. And it's when someone hauls such an accolade on a place it's more of a let down than if you'd have just been told, "here's a nice place to go for fish and chips". Nash's is a restaurant in the same way that McDonalds is a restaurant, it's not really, it's a nice and clean place to sit down in twos or in groups and eat some fast food without having to take it outside or home to eat it. The staff are lovely and enthusiastic and the fish is lovely, and portions are rather large, they come in four sizes, small, regularly, large and giant. I never did see what giant looked like, but if the regular was anything to go by it musta been HUGE. As to be expected these days, the takeaway version of the food prices are lower than the restaurant prices, but in my opinion, with so much fish and chip shop competition, they could do with making the prices a bit more on the modest side. Veggie lasagne and a salad £7.50? I've paid less in a rather nice Italian restaurant. In Blackpool, which serves some of the finest fish and chips in the country in my humble opinion, you can get fish, chips, mushy peas, a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea for a fiver and it's divine, here they do meal deals too. Fish, chips, bread and butter slice and a cup of tea for £8, if you want mushy peas (which is the law) you need an extra £1.50. So it's £9.50 for fish and chips meal to eat in. Too much I do believe. Nice, but average, not the best in the country, and not really the best in Leeds. Sorry guys.

I was not even aware of Brett's presence until a few years back when a friend suggested we should…read morego in after watching a cricket match at Headingley stadium. Before visiting Brett's, I had been satisfied with the other two standard Headingley chippies, Midgley's and Bryan's (both excellent) but, as I realised on my first visit, Brett's outshines both. There are many, many reasons for this; firstly, it just feels like a chippy - always a long queue of cold Leodensians dying for something warm and fattening, staff who yell orders to each other and have aprons covered in chip fat, and a couple of rickety sheltered benches just outside the shop for those who can't wait until they get home. On top of this, the setting (inside an old, ivy-covered terraced house on North Lane) makes Brett's both quaint and perfectly located in equal measure. Whether you've been at the cricket, the rugby, or just on a ten hour drinking binge, Brett's is always a welcome sight. But it is the food, of course, which makes the biggest difference. Rumour has it that the reason that Brett's batter tastes crispier than anywhere else is down to the use of beef fat, rather than vegetable oil - a stroke of genius I'm sure you'd agree (as well as making the food taste better, it also means there are no vegetarians ahead of you in the queue!). The cod and haddock itself tastes and feels fresher than any other Leeds fishery I have stumbled upon, and the chips are just glorious. Go to Brett's. Go now.

However, with the increase of students in the outskirts of city, KFC's, clubs and bars, the town is almost recognizable. This is apart from Bretts Fish Restaurant. The is nowhere else you can sit and eat a takeaway or sit down and have a meal in a 1930's oak paneled surrounding! Bretts ivy covered restaurant really does stand out from businesses such as Lucky's and Gangster's takeaway on the same road with very contrasting, modern exterior. Bretts has many famous specials (as well as their gorgeous, traditional fish and chips...very scrummy) such as Lincolshire Maris Piper potatoes and Icelandic Haddock. Bretts has put a classy twist on a meal that has been branded in modern society as a dirty, greasy takeaway. You can eat a well presented, fish meal in Bretts restaurant with a lovely bottle of wine off the extensive wine list! Due to it's location Brett's is often frequented by cricket media and fans!!! You must book your table during Test Match season well before!!I

We had two sausage, chips and peas teas at a total cost of £4.70. I'm not being funny but a trip to the chippy hasn't cost me under a fiver in about ten years so it was pretty mega. There weren't any battered sausages but they did us some especially when we asked, and the lady was really friendly and it felt like the kind of place where if you go a few times they'll recognise you and get your sausages battered as soon as you walk in : ) The chips were done to perfection, and the peas were hotter than the sun. He went for the fish, which looked and smelt delicious, and I went for chips and a battered sausage. In fairness this is more appropriate for an evening meal really than a small lunch but we were hungry and it was a one off. The staff in there were excellent, serving us quickly and cheerfully. I had a pt of curry sauce with mine and the whole thing was so wrong it was right. Delicious batter, gorgeous chips and brilliant curry sauce! I would recommend you stop by sometime and sample! Perhaps not advisable to make it a regular thing though, it's not the healthiest way to live...
