I have two kids in this school. My oldest, who is just about to enter 6th grade, has been going to…read morethis school since Kindergarten. I think some things have definitely improved over the years, such as pick-up and drop-off (which used to be a total nightmare), and it seems that they've slowly started making improvements to the bathrooms and some exterior parts of the school, like the sidewalks. However, I feel this school could benefit from investing more money into fixing up the playgrounds, classrooms, and overall infrastructure of the school. The playgrounds are pretty old and run-down. The classrooms are very dated. Some of the classrooms have plumbing issues and a huge problem with ants. The teachers and staff members are wonderful, but at times I am not sure if what my kids are learning is up to par with other schools. The before/after program (PRIDE) is not great... my kids were enrolled in it this past school year and they originally stated they would watch the kids on all of the breaks (fall, spring, etc.) except winter break, but then right before fall break they completely bailed on the parents. Some of the teachers in the before/after programs are too lenient and the snacks they pass out are not healthy. One day my kids had several small boxes of TRIX cereal. This should not be an acceptable snack to feed children, especially in the afternoons when they will likely be eating dinner within a couple of hours. My biggest problem with the school is the grading system. Instead of the usual A, B, C, D, F, this school uses a 1-4 grade scale, which does not tell me much... and this has been one of my biggest issues with this school (and the district itself, since it's throughout the entire school district) since my oldest started going here. Another big problem I have is that they do not release a school supply list until about a week before school starts, during Meet The Teacher Night, but last year we didn't get it until the NIGHT before school. I think this is very inconvenient because by the time we get the school supply list, a lot of the stuff is already out of stock at the stores. Last year I had a hard time finding the right type of folders for my daughters, which was frustrating. So those are definitely some things the school could afford to improve upon... also, a no tolerance policy for bullying and delinquent behavior. It seems like the kids are not punished as severely as they should be when causing harm to other students. My oldest daughter told me that a boy in her grade started a fight with another boy on a field trip a few months ago, and even called the other boy the "N" word, and he was still able to attend the school. He even called one of the teachers the "B" word. This type of behavior should not be acceptable. Areas where the school is meeting/exceeding my expectations would be the teachers and staff. I have been mostly happy with my kids' teachers, the ladies in the office, and Mrs. Helland. I like that they still have parties in celebration of certain holidays, because I remember having class parties as a child and found it super memorable. The 5th graders had a ballroom dance competition this past school year, which was super fun. I would like to see more events like this. Pick-up/drop-off is also a breeze now, for the most part. It is so much faster than it used to be. I really appreciate that the staff takes the time to ensure a smooth process. Overall, I would say this is an okay school, and one of the better public schools in the area from what I've seen.

Really good school, teachers are engages, administration very helpful, close knit community.read more

There is usually 2 women, they do not give off a friendly personality nor are they welcoming. When you walk in they just keep staring at you and or avoid you until they finally say "hello". I never see them smile at parents/families unless they are talking within themselves. They need to do better, work on their customer service or just simply hire better welcoming friendlier staff.

I don't like leaving bad reviews, but I have received at least 3 emails from the school saying…read more"Leave us a review!" So... here you go. I am not a fan of Legacy Phoenix; and I want to emphasize that it is THIS Legacy location that I do not like. My daughter went to Legacy Surprise from Kinder to First grade, and it was WONDERFUL. Teachers were attentive and willingly to work with you, there were community events going on multiple times a month... Legacy Surprise really made their school a wonderful place to be. Then we moved and had to enroll my daughter in Legacy Surprise for 2nd grade... and it was a complete change. Despite the school being larger and clearly more funded (as they offer free breakfast and lunch to ALL students); there were hardly any community events. They sure do like to ask for money via 101 fundraisers... but no fun events for the kids And families to attend! When they did have events, parents were notified a few days prior, giving little to no time to plan. The next issue was the teacher my daughter had. During 2nd grade, my daughter was sick often and missed school quite a bit. This lead to her grades slipping. After failing 2 quarters, I reached out to the teacher to ask about how makeup work was going for the weeks my daughter missed. The response? "Legacy does not allow makeup work." It wasn't until my daughter was at risk of failing a 3rd quarter that I reached out to the assistant principal for clarification. Her response? "Legacy does allow make up work as long as it is completed with in a week of the date that it was missed"... When I told her about what my daughter's teacher had said, she promised to look into it. It was only after the assistant principal got involved that my daughter was allowed to do make up work and her grades began to improve. During my daughter's 2nd grade year, she also contracted lice TWICE from another student in her class. When she got it the first time, we notified the school. What were we told? "As long as she had treatment 24 hrs ago, she can come back to school"... Sorry, WHAT? My daughter has an active life infestation, and you want her in class with other students? But okay, fine. We send her back, doing treatments and preventative care until she's clear. 2 weeks later, she comes home with lice again. At no point was the class noticed that there was a lice outbreak, and at no point were we told to keep students home to prevent spreading. After 2nd grade was over, we decided if we had this many issues again during 3rd grade then we would consider pulling my daughter out of Legacy Phoenix. That leads us to the current 2026-2027 school year... about a week ago, we received this incredibly condescending and tone deaf email basically telling us that it didn't matter if our kids were sick, we should be sending them to school under threat of truancy and calls to CPS. So despite that my daughter had signs of a stomach bug today, I sent her to school. I then called the health office and explained that if my daughter came to the nurse today with concerns about her stomach, I need to be informed so I can come pick her up. What did the nurse say? She told me I should have kept my daughter home, that the school has had a string of kids with a stomach bug. She said the only way to make sure it didn't spread was to keep my daughter home when she's sick. So I told the nurse about the email, and she was shocked and appalled. It was clear she had NO idea the administration had sent this email, and that she strongly disagreed with it. She took down my daughter's information, and told me that if my daughter came in that she would call me. So far, not off to a strong start this school year. If issues like this continue to happen, we will not be re-enrolling for the 2027-2028 school year. Any time someone asks me if I would recommend Legacy Phoenix, I tell them a hard NO! Public schools are better than Legacy Phoenix at this point. There you go, Miss Nancy Gonzalez. I hope you like the review you keep hounding parents for via ParentSquare :)
