Today, I had an extremely frustrating experience during afterschool pickup at this school. When I arrived, my children were not outside waiting as they usually are. Annette Sanchez approached my car as soon as I parked and, instead of ensuring my kids were on their way, she stood by my driver's door. After a minute, she instructed me to pull around and wait, despite the fact that my children are always on time for pickup. I refused, knowing that this delay was unnecessary. It became clear that there was a lack of coordination, as I ended up waiting 20 minutes for my children to come outside.
During this time, instead of taking proactive steps to address the situation, such as going into the school to find my children, both Annette Sanchez and Heather Henderson remained outside. Ms. Sanchez chose to engage in an argument with me rather than resolve the issue, even going so far as to follow me out of my car and instruct other staff not to assist me when they inquired about my children's names. As a working mother, my time is valuable, and I rely on the school to have an efficient pickup process. It was particularly concerning to learn that my children were deliberately not called and were instead sent to a cooling room. My son had to take the initiative to ask where I was before they were finally sent out.
This experience was both frustrating and avoidable. I strongly urge the school to review and improve its afterschool pickup procedures to prevent such incidents in the future. If this issue persists, I will not hesitate to escalate my concerns to the school district and the State Board of Education. read more
