Are we sure this guys a dentist b/c I literally just got told that they would NOT schedule me to get a cavity filled unless I first came in for a deep cleaning - ummmm what? Let me first back up - I am a person who has needed a lot of dental work. After my first child was born things within my body weren't right and unfortunately it took a few years to figure out a that I have celiac and that giving birth was the catalyst to knocking the gene active (so to speak) it had otherwise been dormant for my entire life. During the few years spent trying to figure out what was going on with me, my teeth were literally rotting since I was eating the food (gluten) that I was allergic to unbeknown to me. Since being diagnosed with celiac and removing all gluten from my life my teeth have leveled off. However I was left with literally 20 some odd cavities. This is an uphill battle I've been fighting for the last several years, paying out of pocket/running out my dental insurance year after year and waiting for the cache to start over in order to do more work - it's been a nightmare. I'm finally nearing the finish line, I have one cavity left and 3 crowns for chipped teeth - but did you hear that ONE cavity left (yay!) Dr Reed wanted to do this special deep cleaning on me, he views this treatment time be a good preventative treatment for someone such as myself, it helps remove any build-up of bacteria lingering in my gums and will help prevent any future cavities - great! I think we can all agree this sounds like a good treatment and one I should get. Fast FWD to today where we are in the midst of a PANDEMIC. I got the text reminder on my phone that my deep cleaning is coming up in a few weeks (booked back at the beginning of the new year pre Covid) I called the office and explained that while I think this service is good and I still plan to get it done, that I'd rather wait until the pandemic is over and at this moment in time I'd like to just focus on getting this last remaining cavity filled so at least that can be over and done and didn't end up turning into an unnecessary root canal - the women working the front desk, Kelly, told me that the Dr wouldn't work on my cavity until I did the deep cleaning and even questioned my comfort level and willingness to come into their office right now and said "so you think it's ok to come in to get a cavity filled but not a deep cleaning during Covid?" Ummmm I mean ideally I'd stay out of your office Kelly, and everywhere else all together, especially since I have a high risk child but again, one cavity to go I'd rather it not become an unnecessary root canal if it can be avoided so to me getting that done now, in my opinion is 100% the more pressing issue/apt yes. Thanks for asking, Kelly. I suggest having the Dr call me seeing as how he's a dentists and dentists fill cavities I felt it seemed pretty insane that I was being told he was going to turn me away and not allow me to book a cavity fill. I then received a call back about 30 min later from.......Kelly, not Dr. Reed. Cool. Kelly tells me that if I want to go ahead and keep the deep cleaning apt that once that's done Dr. Reed would be happy to ALLOW me to book my cavity fill - wait, what? I reminded her we're in a pandemic and asked why my opinion over my own treatment plan meant nothing. And also, you are so busy Dr. Reed that you couldn't get back to me yourself? And you're so busy that you, a dentists are ok refusing to book cavity fills that you've said your patients need and are good telling them to go somewhere else unless they first book an elective procedure? Must be nice to be so financially secure to just turn down patients (for the very basic part of a dental work - I mean I think we can all agree cavities are a no brainer - dentists fill cavities, right?) when the wind isn't blowing you in the direction of the payday you're looking for. Again, I was not asking anything crazy - I called my DENTIST, where I'm an existing patient and requested to switch a treatment plan during a PANDEMIC to shift the focus off a fluff procedure to a more pressing/mandatory cavity fill to ensure it doesn't continue to grow - a cavity you told me I had and a cavity that's on our treatment plan to fix. I mean, I just don't get it. I guess for Dr. Reed expecting a dentists to do dentists things, like fill cavities is outside of the scope of work he's willing to do. Just wondering what work he, a dentists is actually interested in doing? So needless to say I'm searching for a new dentist, one who like to book apt and do cavity fills - you know, basic dentist stuff, so let me know if anyone has a good recommendation of dentists who like to work! Love the new Dentist in West Seattle, Dr. Garrett Reed! I had been looking for a new Dentist for my family and he was recommended by my Endodontist. The moment I walked into Dr. Reed's office I was relieved. It's a beautiful office which gives you an initial sense of comfort. The staff was extremely courteous, immediately got me registered and I was in the chair getting the best cleaning of my life. As for Dr. Reed, he is a true professional and treated me amazing. A gentle exam without all the sharp pokes and prods that are usually associated with a dental exam he discussed everything with me. There were some things I was wondering about and he never tried to sell me anything, he simply discussed the issues and gave a general timeline about when it would be necessary to treat in the future, the true sign of a dentist who cares about the patient more than just doing procedures. I had one of the best dental visit in a while. I walked out of the office satisfied that all of my concerns were addressed. The minute I walked through the door I was greeted by welcoming smiles. My first impression of the clinic was that it provided a cozy home feeling; one that can soothe one's anxiety from bad childhood dental experiences. The front end staff got me checked in really quick and I was situated in the dental chair in less than 5 minutes. So efficient! My hygienist, Lisa, was so kind and knowledgeable. She was professional the whole time and explained every step she was doing while cleaning my teeth. She wasn't like some of the other hygienist who just cruised through the whole cleaning process without explaining anything they were doing to the patient. I like that she would pause every once in a while to let me relax my mouth and ask questions along the journey. She really listened to my concerns and addressed every one of my questions. The hygienist took the time and made sure I felt comfortable and dedicated a huge chunk of time with me. I did not feel rushed. I felt really pampered. Dr. Reed is incredibly smart and hilarious. He's got jokes! He made me feel comfortable within minutes. What I like most about this dentist was that he didn't try to sell you into getting unnecessary dental care. I like dentists who believe in preventative care and fixing the root of the problem rather than just addressing the cause. He addressed the concerns I had and explained very carefully what he thought would be the most optimal solutions to my problems. I also like that he mentioned the long term pros and cons of each solution so that I was well informed and was able to make the best decisions. I will make this my permanent dental office. read more

These guys are amazing!! I've been seeing them for a while now for check ups and cleanings and Dr. Reed discussed with me how I need to get my wisdom teeth taken out and referred me to a surgeon. Of course I put it off because they weren't bothering me and I didn't have dental insurance at the time. I finally signed up for dental insurance and of course my wisdom teeth started killing me but my insurance didn't kick in for another three weeks!! I was getting worried but also wanted to wait for the insurance to kick in so I contacted Westview dental to ask them questions and they are amazing and not only got me in the day of to check them out to make sure there wasn't any infection or anything but they also let me use an expired credit I had from doing their wellness package!! Dr. Reed, his assistant Melissa, and the gals at the front desk were all so amazing and helpful it brought tears to my eyes! You can tell how genuine they are and how they just want to help! Dr. Reed's ambition when opening this clinic was to make it a fun place to visit. That sounded impossible, given that it's a dental clinic, but he has accomplished this goal. Not a fan. I went in there to get a few silver fillings changed to tooth colored fillings, and ended up having to get root canals! Zimberg put the permanent fillings in, and warned me that I might need root canals. Imagine that! She referred me to her buddy that does root canal, across the street... Fishy for sure. So why didn't she put in temporary fillings in to give the teeth time to see if I would need more treatment? I had to pay for permanent fillings, and root canals. And then she wanted to put in crowns, which I didn't need. I went to another dentist to complete the work. I got the white fillings that I originally came in for. read more

I have not been here for a few years but I am still traumatized from seeing Lisa Zimberg. One of my fillings fell out (that she put in) and I went back into remediate. She had to drill more to fill it. While drilling I had a major 'jolt' of pain like I've never felt in my life. She just kept working unphased. Anyways almost immediately I am slowly feeling pain in my mouth daily so I came back in thinking something is wrong. She then tells me I need a root canal on this tooth (which had never bothered me before in my life) and she wanted to refer me to her neighborhood friend to have it done. Which leads me to my next story.. My kids also went here for a couple of years and they also had a horrible experience. She acted annoyed that they had any apprehension of having tools in their mouths. The final straw, she looked at me straight in the eyes and told me my 9 year old needed braces. She said she was 100% certain of this and handed me a referral card to another of her 'friends'. I went and got a 2nd opinion and they 2nd facility seemed almost shocked that she would have said that because all of her teeth had not come in and they felt it was just way too early to make this determination. Now flash forward to now and her current dentist feels my daughter has great teeth (as do I ) and there is absolutely no need for braces. read more

I transferred my two kids, ages 14 and 20 from their pediatric dentist to Dr. Reed. He has been wonderful. His staff is very friendly and competent. The cleaning was easy and comfortable. Let me start by saying that I am very particular about my teeth. Both the health and appearance are important to me. I have seen a number of dentists in West Seattle having lived here for 30 years. Dr. Garret is fantastic. His skills are matched only by his caring. He listens to what is important to you and I have never felt rushed or like I was just another patient. This is also true of his staff. They are very personable, knowledgeable. The office runs seamlessly. I would also like to add that he took over this practice recently, so if you have heard about experiences in the past, I am sure it was not him. Westview Dental is the absolute worst. I went once for a cleaning, and they simply would not stop with the upsell. My front teeth had some discoloration that I was interested in trying to get rid of, and was told that the only option for me would be incredibly expensive $20,000 veneers, and that I shouldn't use any whitening toothpaste or seek out any whitening treatment. I then went to another dentist (out of state), told them the situation and what I was told at Westview Dental. He looked at me and said "Wow. I can't believe someone would try to just blatantly rip off a patient like that." Proceeded to give my teeth a proper cleaning (which obviously wasn't done at Westview Dental), and low and behold - the discoloration was completely gone! And it just required an HONEST dentist who new what they were doing, and it certainly wasn't anywhere close to what Westview Dental said I would need to spend to fix it. Blatant liars. The staff were pretty rude as well. Westview Dental is the complete embodiment of every negative stereotype about dentists you can think of. They are dishonest, greedy monsters who don't care about their patients well being, only extracting as much money from them as humanly possible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Do not trust anything they say. Find another dentist to go to, especially before having any expensive work done. Just don't believe anything these liars say. If you have made the mistake of going there, please go and have a second opinion done somewhere else before you let them do any work. My experience was so bad, I now travel across the country and then drive hours to a small little nowhere town that I hate just so I can go to a fantastic dentist I know can trust. The last time I was there he said I really should find a dentist here in Seattle, but Westview Dental was so dishonest at worst and incompetent at best, that I simply can't bring myself to trust a dentist in Seattle again. It was traumatizing. Nobody likes going to the dentist, but my experience at Westview Dental was so awful that now I am simply terrified of going to another dentist in West Seattle because after an experience like that, how can I trust any of them around here? I certainly can't trust anything the people that give this place 5 stars say because that is so far from the reality of my experience that it's not funny. When we go to a dentist, we sit in their chair completely vulnerable and we trust that they will do a decent job and be honest. The blatant and utter dishonesty of Westview Dental has ensured that I will never be able to trust a dentist in Seattle like that again. Today I went to my first (and last) appointment with this office. The appointment was for three things: cleaning, exam, and to begin the process for the dentist's portion of a tooth implant. I had previously been advised by the surgeon who removed the previous broken tooth and placed the implant peg, of what the cost would be expected to be for the dentist portion of the implant procedure. I had checked with one or more other regular dentists to see if that estimate was more or less accurate, and they seemed to be in the same range. So, Imagine my shock when Dr. Reed's office informed me that their price was double that amount! I was taken aback and wanted to think about whether or not to go forward with this procedure in their office. Still, I also needed to have the regular exam and cleaning, which I was prepared to go forward with. But they chose not to. For this I am actually thankful, because I needed only go to the first dentist down the street to find that their charges would be half Dr. Reed;s fee. So, my advice is always ask in advance what the fee is. Especially with Dr. Reed's office. Also, please note that Reed's office imposes a $50 fee for any cancellation made less than 48 hours beforehand. But, they naturally would not reciprocate when cancelling my appointment for the exam and cleaning. And finally, they charge a 24% late payment fee,. according to the contract they want you to sign. Not that many years ago this would have been illegal usury. These sort of business practices suggests to me something very troublesome about the proprietors. Beware! read more

She's excellent at making you feel completely comfortable and is also very knowledgable about dental care. Actually, I was very impressed with the front office staff here as well. Vickey is truly the best dental hygienist, (I, too, would follow her anywhere!), and Lisa has the most gentle touch of any dentist I have ever been to. I started bringing my son here before he even had teeth, and now, 28 years later, he has a gorgeous, healthy smile and life-long friends. I have been going to Westview Dental for a few years. I was so pleased with Dr. Zimberg and her staff that my wife and our oldest daughter started seeing Dr. Zimberg as well. Everything has been great - until this week. This week they have lost all 3 of us as patients. Recently Dr. Zimberg left the practice and has been replaced by Dr. Reed. Met him in January when I went in for routine check-up and cleaning. He seems very nice. The appointment went fine. Dr. Reed wanted me to come in to have an old crown replaced. Okay. So I came in two days ago. They did an X-Ray. Dr. Reed assured me that he would get the tooth super numb for me so I wouldn't feel a thing. He was true to his word and gave me 4 or 5 injections that were unpleasant but worth it since he would be working on a back tooth. While we were waiting for the full numbing to take effect, Eileen came over to talk to me about billing and insurance and said - hey - tried to catch you before the appt started - so it looks like your dental insurance is maxed out already. Insurance won't cover today's appointment so today will cost you $1300. That is in addition to the $1500 balance you already have with us. She explained that Dr. Reed would want me to pay off the $1500 that I owe BEFORE going ahead with replacing this crown. I said I would not have made this appointment if I had been given that information ahead of time. I said I made this appointment a month ago and she had plenty of time to give me this information. I said I would not be staying to finish the appt. Instead of apologizing and letting me move on with my day, Eileen continued to go back and forth with me about why I needed the crown replaced, how I should stay and talk to the doctor and see if there was something we could work out. I felt like I was being put on the spot to explain why I didn't have $1500 at the ready to pay a balance that I didn't even know about 5 mins earlier. I then went through the same conversation with another staff member when she saw me get out of the chair instead of waiting for the doctor, and put on my coat. I went through it all again when the doctor came in. So frustrating. He gave me a prescription for a fluoride toothpaste and asked me to come back right away in July when my insurance refreshes. Yesterday at home I went through my file folder with all dental receipts and payment arrangements and I didn't see anything that explained the $1500 balance so I called the office. Spoke to Eileen again. Turns out the last time I made a payment was mid-September 2015. On September 24th I had a root canal at another office. On September 30th I had a crown done. Eileen says insurance didn't pay anything on the crown so the charge was $1000. Really?! So why didn't anyone tell me?! I did not receive a statement from her office for October, November, December, or January. I was under the impression, based on my last statement, that I owed them $200 and being told that it was actually $1500 was a complete shock. The $500 was from fillings I had done. Great. No one said anything for FOUR frickin months? No one mentioned it at my January 7th appt. No one called me on the phone. Eileen said usually we send out statements every month. Usually we try to call people. Usually we try to give patients estimates ahead of time. Eileen asked what she could do to make it right. I asked her like what? And she said I had to tell HER something specific. For crying out loud. I said obviously I am angry about owing $1500 but I am guessing you can't just make it disappear? Nope. Then she made the mistake of trying to get me to take some responsibility for all of this. She said that as a consumer, I should have known that even if insurance DID cover the cost of the crown, it would only pay half and I would be responsible for $500 and wasn't I keeping track of that for my own records? That REALLY pissed me off. Hey - so in August I needed a root canal. In September I needed another root canal. I was in excruciating pain for WEEKS until the root canals were done. In October, after being in and out of the vet and having life-threatening illness, our beloved pet of 15 years died. In November our family helped our oldest daughter move into her first apartment. In December we have 2 family birthdays, Christmas to get ready for and family came to visit for 10 days - so was I thinking, I should look at my dental insurance? Nope! I made the assumption that Westview Dental was doing their job - at least what they USED to do - and that they would let me know if I had new charges hitting or pending and they would presumably try to make payment arrangements if anything came up. My entire family is changing dentists immediately. read more
