We found a stray and they were very helpful and professional about caring for the little dog till they find him a permanent family.

I took my kids down to Stanislaus animal services a while after there Mom passed away and my son's…read moreand I looked around and we saw this little female partly calico cat. She was about a year old and as we were looking for a little kitten Iwas not to sure about getting a 1 year old cat but my boys just fell in love with her in the little room they have there at this place where u can hold the animals and see what kind of temperament they have but like I said my boys just fell in love with her and I pretty much did as well. So we paid the $60 and we took her home and we kept her in our house for about a month and we didn't let her out because I herd your saposed to leave the cats inside your house for at least two weeks so they don't just run away and don't come back if u don't. So we over did it but once we let her out the whole neighborhood fell in love w her man. We live just 3 houses down from a school and when the school let's ou and before school when all the kids get dropped off all the kids would pet her and just love on her. I'm not even kidding everyone fell in love with our cat Bimo. Anyways, the problem with her was she would try to sneak into my car if I had the door open before I left and she try to get into everyone's car who was outside. All the kids who were getting out of schools cars the UPS drivers trucks, I mean everyone. So I'm am so worried someone else will fall in love w her and take her. She's chipped and has all her shots and is fixed because all the cats down there are. So there's no worries there but I'm just soon scared she's going to get taken. Otherwise it's pretty hilarious but we are all verry happy w her. She's the best. No kidding. Thanks Stnislaus Animal Services. I'd leave a picture of her here for the review but I don't know exactly where she is right now. She's outside chatting around right now. She always comes home for the night at dinner time though. So I'm not too too worried that someone's taken her. NOT YET THAT IS. HA HA

06/26/26 - Posting my review here since they had it removed from their Google reviews. I…read moreunfortunately had to surrender him to OAS, but the vets at my job, OAS, & several local rescues that I had reached out to had all said that SASA should've took him back irregardless of what county I reside in, & that it seemed they just withheld information to push him out the shelter & once he was out, they didn't want to take him back. 04/28/26 - I recently adopted a 10 month old puppy from this shelter 3 days ago. Before I went through with the adoption, I asked handlers/volunteers if the dog was reactive at all & if he was tested with other dogs. I was told no he's not reactive, & to do slow introductions due to him being a Cane Corso. Two different people also told me that he was brought back once already because the foster (foster through their shelter) had a cat in the home and was worried that he would harm the cat because he was showing interest in it. I wasn't told/provided any behavior/temperament notes from his time with the foster, which I'm under the assumption that he was there for two months (his records they provided to me are dated 2/10 & 4/21. Receptionist also told me that's he's been there under their care for a long time). If the foster had him for two months, or any longer than the 3 days I've had him, they'd have seen the same reactivity I have. He's sweet to me, & very goofy, but outside of my home he is reactive to every person & dog that he sees. They could be 30 feet away on the other side of the street, & he will start barking & lunging. He has spent supervised time with my younger siblings (ages 1-17) on both Saturday & Sunday, & was content with being around them; licking them, playing with them, following them around etc. Yesterday, he started lunging & barking at them. I have gotten him low stress medications that unfortunately don't help with his reactivity. I attempted to surrender him back to SASA since I just adopted him from there & the staff are familiar with him, but I was told that since I am not under their jurisdiction I would have to surrender him to Oakland. The receptionist who facilitated the adoption failed to inform me of this information. I cannot keep him around my family due to his reactivity, have a hard time taking him out on walks, but since I am not a resident of Stanislaus County, I cannot bring back a dog that they're familiar with & adopted out, & am instead faced with surrendering him to OAS where he'll be deemed aggressive & euthanized. The lack of communicating pertinent information regarding the animals under their care & their policies is highly concerning.

When we first arrived there, we noticed how peaceful the place was - none of the incessant barking that you encounter at the local shelter. Their grounds were well maintained. We were told the dogs are let out to run in the yard for 3 hours a day. Their website has a bio on each pet so you can read a background info on each one. Obviously when it's an owner surrender they have more information on the pet, less so if the pet was a stray. But even then, they observe them while at the shelter to give you an idea what to expect. Their system makes it easy to adopt. I recommend sending an application in to get approved first. Once you've been approved, just call to make an appointment to see a dog or cat that you would like to meet. They will hold the dog or cat for you until your appointment. This is different from local city shelters where you might see a dog or cat listed online but it might be gone by the time you get there. Their adoption fee ($350) is fair as my dog was already microchipped and his shots were updated, except for rabies. I was a bit surprised that he was released without updating his rabies. All in all, I would recommend PetsNPals to anyone looking to adopt. They definitely care about the pets and try to make their shelter stay as pleasant as possible. Please adopt, don't shop for a pet.

Today we had the pleasure of experiencing A Doggy Day Out…read more This experience is offered Monday - Saturday from 9:30 am - 5:00 pm. Must be 18 years or older to participate. We were able to pick Margo (female, 9 month old husky) from a list of available dogs. The dogs on the list have been behavior tested and are ready to go. The application process to take her out took about 15 minutes. But perhaps that was because all my littles were asking a million questions. They were so excited for this opportunity. The staff was friendly and approachable. They had great communication with my children and myself. Expectations were clear in the packet and we were kindly reminded to return her back by 5:00 pm. Margo was truly a joy. She walks great on a leash. Does well with children ages 3,5,6,7,9, and 11 as well as dogs: Martha (Biewer terrier) and Bruno (Cavapoo). She loves pup cups and good long walks. We really hope today will help her get adopted. She would be a great addition to any family. Upon return, she did a great job exiting the suburban. We purchased a bone for her as well as a toy. Receiving went great. My kids continued to ask a million questions and all of which were answered and encouraged by a friendly and knowledgeable staff. They even took a picture for us to remember our special day. We are already excited to do another Doggy Day Out. Without hesitation I strongly encourage others to experience this joy and make all the difference in these pups lives. What if your day out gets these sweet babies a new home, not only saving a life but bringing endless joy to someone else's! Thank you City of Turlock Animal Control for the Paws-itively great first forever moment/ experience.

I had good experiences with all the people I interacted with who worked there and with the animal control officer that I chatted with a lot while my dog was getting her included rabies shot. I also have VERY good experiences with animal control regarding me helping a goose I thought was injured, but it turned out that it was bird flu, sadly. I'm shocked by all the bad reviews here... I do notice that many of the bad reviews involve cats. The shelter really isn't able to help much with cats. I blame THE GENERAL PUBLIC for the cat issue. In 2025 there's no excuse for having your cat roaming around outdoors murdering all the birds and risking being hit by a car, etc. Trap-neuter-release programs are ineffective when there are so, so many cats that there are always plenty that will breed. What I CAN say about this shelter and cats is that they accepted a kitten from me (that I found in a park) even though they normally do not, because it was too young to survive on its own. Shelters are never going to be happy, pleasant places, and that's entirely humans' fault. It's disgusting how many people want to breed their dogs when so many are desperate for a home. I think the shelter's doing the best it can, but it's a losing battle, sadly.
