Melody and the team at LSC are the best! We've adopted our first furbaby from them back in 2019 and he's very much my soul dog. They are one of the only rescues that was consistently responsive and great at answering questions as well as following up. Yes, you have to answer an extensive questionnaire but that's literally all rescues, and frankly that shows they are being thorough and careful in ensuring the rescues they have are going to the right home. Adopting an animal needs to fit the right family and situation, which Melody and her team takes the time to do to help ensure a harmonious household for all. We recently adopted our second LSC rescue back in November 2024 and I'm so thankful we were able to adopt from them again! I was specifically looking to adopt a Golden, which all of the local Norcal Golden rescues were difficult to work with. One of the rescues not only had an extensive application, but discriminated against us for not being rich enough to own a single family home in the Bay Area. The woman that ran the rescue felt that all her Goldens had to have big yards to run in....after being discouraged and not getting responses back from other rescues, I happened to check Love & Second Chances weekly to see if they would eventually have a golden available to adopt, as I know they get a number of different breeds. I was willing to wait for one that would fit our household, and that I was sure we could provide the needed care for. Thank goodness for Love & Second Chance! They have an international program where they will rescue dogs from other countries and since our first rescue from them was from that program, how fitting it is for our second to also come from the international program. During this second adoption, they have included so much more helpful information, documents on different topics in bringing home a new rescue, suggestions on best dog tools to use, videos to prepare you, and even discounted GPS tracking options for your new rescue. Clear instructions on airport pick up, consistent correspondence with not only Melody but also the international rescuer, and never feeling lost on anything throughout the whole process. Honestly, I knew they were a very caring organization the first time but the second time around the thought and thoroughness increased so much more. If you truly care about rescues taking the time to pair the right dog to your household, they are the most reliable in my experience. I just think potential adopters need to keep in mind that they're doing what's best for the dog, and that's really how it should be. If you can be patient and trust that LSC organizers are considering all factors to pair you with the right fit, then please help them out and adopt a rescue from them! Because the last thing you want is to be placed in a situation where it's not the right pairing and you have to give back the dog.

From the moment we began considering adoption, Love and Second Chances transformed what could have been an overwhelming process into a truly joyful and unforgettable experience. I cannot recommend this incredible rescue enough to anyone dreaming of welcoming a furry companion into their lives. Initially, I was extremely hesitant about adopting a dog internationally. The idea of not meeting our future pet in person until the day he arrived at the airport felt daunting, and I was filled with uncertainties about the logistics and emotional weight of such a commitment. But all it took was one conversation with Melody to dissolve every worry I had. Melody is nothing short of a blessing. Her warmth, patience, and genuine care shone through as she answered my endless stream of questions--and trust me, I had plenty! No matter how many times I reached out, she responded with thoughtful, reassuring answers that made me feel completely supported and confident in our decision. The entire team at Love and Second Chances, including the dedicated volunteers, shares this same compassionate spirit. They went above and beyond, sending us photos and videos of Hoya, the sweet Bichon we were considering. Those glimpses of his playful personality and soulful eyes created an instant connection, making the decision to adopt him feel like fate. The adoption process itself was remarkably smooth, a testament to the team's expertise and commitment to ensuring every dog finds their perfect home. When the day finally arrived, meeting Hoya--now lovingly named Aspen--at the airport was a moment of pure, heart-melting magic. It was love at first sight, confirmed in an instant. This little Bichon, a true diamond in the rough, seemed to know he had found his forever family. His gentle demeanor and sparkling spirit were exactly what we had hoped for, and he's only grown more special with each passing day. Within less than 24 hours of bringing Aspen home, we were astonished at how seamlessly he settled in. He walks like a dream on his leash, showing low anxiety and a quiet confidence that makes every stroll a joy. He lets me brush him without too much a of fuss, and best of all, he's already claimed my lap as his favorite spot for cuddles. Though he's still getting used to his new name, Aspen's loving nature has filled our home with warmth and laughter. My husband and I often look at each other in awe, marveling at how this sweet soul has already become such an integral part of our lives. Love and Second Chances didn't just give us a dog; they gave us a new family member and a lifetime of cherished memories waiting to unfold. Their dedication to the dogs in their care and the families they serve is truly extraordinary, and we are forever grateful for this opportunity. I wholeheartedly recommend this rescue to friends, family, and anyone ready to open their hearts to a pet. In fact, we're already dreaming of adopting another dog from them in the future! As a final note, do yourself and your new fur baby a favor by getting the leash and harness, kit--it's top-notch, thoughtfully curated, and made with such great quality, just like everything else Love and Second Chances does. Thank you, Melody and team, for giving Aspen and our family the chance to create a lifetime of love. You've changed our lives in the most beautiful way!

I have worked with this adoption non-profit twice. As a volunteer foster parent and then 10 years later to work with them to adopt a dog from Korea. They do amazing work, are so connected with a vast network, knowledgeable and supportive. I highly recommend supporting them financially with donations, adopting from them or volunteering.

We had to bribe him with treats for this family photo!

Highly highly highly recommend Love & Second Chances. Adopt, don't shop! The whole process was so smooth and easy. We found the dog we were interested in on their website and filled out an online application that took about 20 minutes. Within 24 hours, Melody reached out to us on next steps. She connected us with the foster parent to ask questions and see more photos/videos. We recorded an intro video to provide a tour of the place we live at. Once we were selected, Melody scheduled and provided flight details. Our doggo was flying from Korea to the US! Yes they endure a long flight in their carrier, but it's important that you don't let your dog out until you get back home because many times these rescued dogs are a high flight risk. Afterwards, Donna will check in every so often to see how it's going and answer any questions you may have. It's been about a month since bringing home our sweet boy Alfie. He's a Jindo terrier mix and was 10 months old when we got him. He is very food motivated, dare I even say more than myself?! He loves playing tug and fetch with us and running around/wrestling with big doggos. He's one of the best things that has ever happened to us and we are absolutely in love with him. Sooo... should we adopt another? :P Go give him a follow on IG @alfiethejindo :) I can't thank Love & Second Chances enough!!

Through the last year or two, my boyfriend and I were seriously preparing to adopt a dog together. After we moved to a new place that would be better suited for a dog, we finally went and started filling out applications for some dogs that would best fit our lifestyle. Of course, this happened to coincide with COVID stay-at-home and competing with many other interested adopters so it was quite tough committing to a dog without being sure we would be chosen for that dog. After going through countless applications, I found that Love & Second Chances, namely Melody, was the most helpful and was able to work with me to help me adopt the dog we've been looking for! We ended up going down the route of working with an international rescue. L&SC works with rescues in Taiwan and Korea; we went with a dog that would be coming from Korea. We were in constant contact with Melody and the international rescue contact and I always felt up to date with any updates they had regarding my future dog. We picked up our new companion from SFO directly and she's been a wonderful addition to our home ever since. Even after the adoption, I always had support from L&SC if I had any questions and they work with you to make sure the transition is smooth for everyone involved. There's even a community of fellow L&SC adopters that you can work with and ask questions as needed. Thank you Melody, Donna, and L&SC for trusting us with Mango. We love her to bits!

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. This person obviosuly didn't research your organization. You run a highly diverse and inclusive organization. I see photos of adoptors of all races and not just the owners, but some dogs are international. When I was researching, I never once thought there was an actual shelter or location. Your online website is very clear to what your mission and goal is. How and where funds come from and that volunteers foster the dogs while looking for permanent homes. I have had more than a positive experience going to through the process of adopting. Everyone I've communicated with locally and in Korea have been pleasant, informative and encouraging.

I adopted my boy 3.5 years ago from Love & Second Chances and I'm still so happy with the process. I know it can be daunting to fill out the application (especially the house video!), but for me, that was a huge sign about how much Love & Second Chances truly cares about the dogs they're helping to find forever homes. The organization is really clear about where each dog is in their journey (e.g. crate trained, leash trained, okay with other dogs, okay with cats, etc.), which I appreciated knowing up front to ensure the dog is the right match, especially for the dogs you're not able to meet in advance. I was also impressed with how carefully my little guy was transported in his own crate with a towel, water, a toy (he still has), a leash, and all his paperwork. Pickup at the airport was also very simple and the team helping out provided helpful hints for acclimation. Circling back to not getting to meet your future, four-legged family member in advance, Melody very thoughtfully connected me with Eve, my boy's foster mom, who shared additional videos and was available to answer all my questions. Eve is amazing--she's rescued so many dogs!--and I still send her pictures and updates of my boy every holiday season. If you're truly ready to welcome a four-legged friend into your life forever, I can't recommend Love & Second Chances enough. They truly care.

I am so thankful for Love and Second Chances. We have our now 2 year old mini Schnauzer thanks to them. He came with all his shots, potty trained, crate trained, great with dogs and children. Their website shows all the dog's traits and usually even their backstory. We mostly spoke with Melody and Donna throughout the process and they obviously care a lot about the dogs and are extremely helpful.

Thanks to Love & Second Chances, I met my "soul dog"! I always knew I wanted to adopt and was ready to open my home to the right dog, and one day I came across one of their new arrivals from Korea. My journey with L&SC went unbelievably smoothly - the hardest part was waiting with bated breath to see if we had been chosen as our pup's new parents! Although it was nerve-wracking, I'm glad it was such a thorough and competitive process to make sure that all of their rescues are going to the best homes. As I write this, Sushi (formerly Penny/Peggy) is snuggling up right next to me on the bed (as she does every morning!) I never believed in love at first sight until I met her, and adopting her is the best decision I've ever made. It's coming up on 7 months now since I brought her home, and every single day I've been so grateful to have found her and for L&SC, Melody, and their entire network of amazing helpers, fosters, and rescuers for connecting us.

Amazing rescue! We just adopted our lovable pup Boba from the rescue . The adoption process was pretty easy. After you submit your application for the pup of your choice you will receive an email from melody not too long after. We are so in love with our baby Boba. She is such a delight. The best addition to our little family we could ever ask for. I highly suggest considering adopting a dog or puppy from here.

LOVE LOVE LOVE Love and Second Chances. I reached out to them after I lost my lab in March. I was hoping to foster (and eventually foster fail) for a bit. Donna and I chatted about my home environment, family and our current lifestyle. She matched us with (then) Penny who had come to the US from Korea a few months before. The transition wasn't without effort or worry the first few days but we were matched perfectly. I cannot imagine our lives without Penny, now Dali. She has truly opened up and is living her best dog life. We will be forever grateful to Love and Second chances.

Where do I even begin? Melody is frickin' amazing! We adore our baby Santo to bits and pieces. Thank you so much Melody for all the amazing work you do. For those of you looking to adopt, I truly recommend Love & Second Chances. Melody was not only super responsive before and during the adoption but has also been amazing / supportive post-adoption with any questions or concerns. She's also set up an awesome community for pawrents who have adopted dogs from Love & Second Chances. She's truly passionate about saving dogs and it shows.

We adopted our beautiful and sweet Millie, who is a 4 year old recently rescued whole life caged Asian puppy mill mommy French bulldog in April 2021. The interview and adoption process was very professional and thoughtful. The live & second chances team and the fab foster mom Jackie who cared for Millie before our adoption were so kind and helped Millie be able to easily adapt to a new family pet life Prior to the adoption. we are so happy to have Millie in our life. Thanks to L&SC - Millies life was saved and she's living her best life as part of our family. We often recommend L&SC to others who are looking to rescue a pet in need.

I wanted an adult dog to add with our little mutt dog. We've had him for a total of 6 days now. Hands-down this dog is amazing. He's a great example of why you'd want to adopt an adult dog as he's slid right into our family - exceptionally housebroken (learned the sliding glass door immediately), got right in the car & road (continues to do so as he just sits upright or down -no fuss), easy on the leash when walking, doesn't bolt to take off after anything so far, gentle mouth when taking treats, understands no & wants to please, so far no separation anxiety at all, and gets along with my older kids & little dog and knows his basic commands (sit, wait, etc). He's easier than the puppies I've had. He's naturally adjusting in that he has low growled when we hugged to long or he couldn't see - that's normal as he's learning to trust us or at my little dog when she first got too close. But its looking like he's adjusting to her better as she accidentally rolled off the couch on to him as he was sitting below at my feet. She landed on him-he just got up, no growling or anything, more like what happened as he just got up and sat. His anxiety came at night when he threw up bubbles twice but no more now. I appreciated TVAR's relaxed approach in the process when we wanted to meet. I've had a rescue want me to meet on a weekday in the SF avenues to meet the dog as they were in a hurry. For me to get over there with my family to meet meant after school so essentially I wouldn't get back till after 8 PM. We didn't do that but the expectation was too hard and didn't seem practical as we'd be rushing. TVAR was great as they just said meet at the Petfair happening at the Farmer's Market. This worked perfect as we were able to meet in an atmosphere that was us as well as see how Stuart was amongst lots of people and dogs. We were able to take the time to discuss Stuart with his foster Mommy as well as with the TVAR rep. If you ever want to consider an adult dog, I would given Stuart is a textbook fabulous dog. I appreciate the fact that TVAR took the time to save his life so we could find him. We never would have without them. Plus their description was dead-on the money - they weren't overselling him, they actually undersold him given how great he's been so far. Kudos to TVAR.

I had two new kittens that I took in as a foster, but of course my family and I fell in love with them and kept them. At this event I got both of their first kitten shots, rabies shot, microchips, flea medicines and some cat food all for free!! Everyone was so nice and although there was a lot of people there taking advantage of the free services, they communicated effectively and everything was organized and not chaotic. I joined their mailing list and found out about their next event in Richmond. The kittens and I went down there to get their second kitten shots and cat food, for free! I got on the waiting list for low cost spay and neuter clinic. Friendly staff, nicely organized. I was suprised when I got the call from them for the neutering appts quicker than expected! Brought both kittens down, everything went well, again for free!! Today my husband, our daughter and I went down to their free pets stocking decorating event. Met with smiles, super cute room filled with stockings and puff paint pens on the tables. They had cookies and hot apple cider. All for free. We decorated stockings for the kittens and our other cat, it was a lot of fun and they had a good turnout! While our stockings dried, we walked around a bit and found they had a boutique! We made Christmas donations for both cat and dog items that they matched! And we got our large dog some Christmas Jammie's on clearance for $5. Boutique was well priced, my husband got a Joybound hat! So onto the animas they had there! First we passed the cats. All of them cuddling in super nice beds, they had nice toys, scratch pads, colorful wallpaper in their individual rooms, information sheets on each door for each pet. The dogs had the same, nice fuzzy beds, toys, little slots to give them treats down this tube. So cute!! I typically can't look at shelter pets because I feel so bad for them. These animas all looked happy and very well taken care of! There was staff walking around regularly checking in on people since they had adoption available. I asked a few questions they were able to answer no problem! They seemed very caring and committed to the animals and putting their best foot forward in helping the get homes. Building super clean, staff super nice, animas all cozy. Overall, we have a great opinion of Joybound with all these diverse experiences we've had with them. The people are so nice and welcoming. We're so grateful for them and the help they provided my kittens, saved us a ton of money!!! And for all they do, thank you!!!!!!

She is the real deal! She let us know about a new litter and we fell in love with one of them! Both were 100% healthy and well behaved and loving and sweet! She has turned out to be just as sweet and beautiful as Bella was! We truly believe it is all because of Judy's loving care while nurturing them in that all important young puppy stage. I retired from breeding and I later discovered that my name was mentioned in a complaint on a ripoff site against Judy, and she had continued to use my name and my stock photos for years afterward, presenting them as the stud/dam to puppies she is currently selling. She exhibits unscrupulous behavior and lacks integrity, often fabricating stories about care, and for many years, she has been known to sell questionable, healthy puppies. Furthermore, her website falsely promotes that the puppies are vet-checked and provides a certification from a veterinarian who retired a decade ago and no longer owns the business.
