I adopted my little Nemo from this rescue. I love him so much and the entire process was very detailed. After I applied for him, I was provided videos of him interacting with other dogs, cats, and children, so I was sure that he had an excellent temperament. We went though the entire process of getting approved to adopt from this shelter, found a lovely dog who was recommended specifically to us by Melody to live with us because we were new dog owners and the dog was more mature/pre-trained, only for them to pull back at the last second and give them to a family that ALREADY HAD 2 DOGS, because they said that was best since she was shy. Why would you do that after we had already bonded with the dog and gone through all the hoops, and shouldn't a family that wasn't already blessed with dogs be given the dog instead. And if more dogs was the problem how did they know we couldn't get more dogs after that?? Horrible that they can decide who deserves a dog or not for such absurd reasons. We are so thankful for Love & Second Chances! Our 'baby', Maya (formerly Julie) was a recent arrival from Korea when we got her. Melody was very helpful with questions and we were able to get the vet records and smoothly integrate Maya into her new and happy life in California. She came to us microchipped and spayed and very healthy - albeit thin (no more!). I am so impressed with this organization and melody is great! A few months ago, we adopted our sweet French bulldog through their international rescue program. The process involved a vetting process, including filling out an application and a home review. After approval, I went to sfo to pick-up our pup. Volunteers from the organization met me at the airport and I was able to pick-up the dog and his vaccination paper, etc. This rescue is legit! They even have follow-up support in the form of a person available to ask questions and make sure the dog is transitioning well into the new home. And the org connects you with other families that have adopted, so you can ask questions and have another source of support. Our pup was previously in a mill and so, of course, there has been a lot of new things for him to learn - pottying outside, walking on a lease, etc. But he's just so sweet. I'm grateful to Love and Second Chances for putting him into my family's life. read more

I had been looking to get a dog for some time and had combed through the local shelters around me until I stumbled upon Love & Second Chances. I was surprised at the stories for some of the dogs and the process I had to go through to get him, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. First there is a form that needs to be filled, then a walk through of the house as well as other conditions that must be met before even being considered to adopt. At first I was taken back by the procedure but quickly realized some of these animals were coming from a harsh background and Love & Second Chances had to be sure we were providing the pets a safe and loving home. After everything was approved, my dog was on a short flight over and I picked him up at SFO. Since then, he has been nothing short of amazing. He came pretty docile and unknowing of his new environment and now is coming into his own character. Everyone I had worked with from Melody to the foster home were great. My only suggestion for improvement is for better communication throughout the process. Melody is the only one handling the communication and she is trying to talk to multiple people at a time so there can be days that pass before getting a response making it tough to get everything together prior to the dog arriving. Again not a big deal, but a suggestion for improvement. read more

We're putting you down as references on our application.  If Love and Second Chances (the rescue group) contacts you, the story is, Flynn went back to live with Cathy's parents and Roxie is sad & lonely and needs a friend.  The only reason we're asking you to lie about Flynn (if it even comes up, which it may not, since we're not referencing him on the application at all) is that these rescue groups are so particular and they'd almost certainly reject us if they knew the truth about what happened even though we are great pet parents!  It's painful to pretend our beloved dog didn't exist, but the "greater good" is us getting another black dog out of Taiwan. We just adopted a sweet doggie (Callie) from Love & Second Chances. This is a great organization. Melody, the founder, is very responsive to questions. She replies to e-mails quickly and is very thorough with answers. Wendy, one of the rescuers, is just great. She also does some of the "matchmaking" and is fantastic at making sure the dog and family are a great fit. She is so hard-working, thorough, and friendly. She sent us updates, photos, and videos each day during the adoption process. It really made us feel like we already knew our Callie so well prior to taking her home. All four of the people with whom we have had interaction have been just wonderful. It is clear that everyone at the organization loves both animals and people. We did an international adoption and the process went great! I found the organization through pet finder and was able to see you tube videos of our pup interacting with cats, dogs, and other humans. After inquiring, I got a response back within hours, we communicated back and forth effortlessly and by the next week, we had our flight schedule to pick up our dog! Overall it was a great experience and after being turned down numerous times because our house had existing pets and small kids, it was a joy to be approved. We had ruled out an international adoption at first because we have three cats and were worried about not being able to gauge the temperament of the dog ourselves. But the more we looked locally the more we found that we got way more information (and videos!) about the dogs available overseas. It's been two weeks since we rescued our puppy through Love & Second Chances and have zero regrets. He's a wonderful dog--so well behaved and incredibly loving and smart. He was pee pad trained (and knew a few basic commands in English) when he arrived and has since become potty trained to use the outdoors and picks up new training quickly. We wanted to adopt a lab mix puppy for our family, but it was difficult to find the right puppy and the right rescue. Then we came upon Elsa's picture on Love and Second Chances. Melody was quick to respond, the adoption process was smooth and professional, and Elsa came into our lives only 19 days later. Elsa's foster mother Rita gave us daily updates (pictures and videos) from Taiwan: what Elsa was learning at just 3 months of age (pad training, walking on a leash, and understanding basic commands). Rita kept us informed of veterinarian visits, favorite toys and treats. She took pictures of Elsa up to the moment she said goodbye to the puppies at the airport. We were worried about how they would be after such a long flight, but they arrived at the airport with their tails happily wagging and a huge bundle of new toys for each puppy tied to their carrier. This only solidified how much they were loved and cared for. Elsa has won our hearts, and we enjoy every loving moment with her. If we had a bigger home, we would have adopted another puppy from this wonderful organization. read more

just wanted to say thank you to melody and the foster homes in taiwan for the smooth adoption. i've never heard the international adoption til i came across love 2nd changes. the process was pretty quick after i got the approval. our new member, Rami (old name: randy) arrived on the 24th at the sfo. you can't believe how quite it was. from time i entered the parking lot to the time i left the parking lot, it took me only 33mins. rami is a very sweet boy and try to adopt the new environment. this poor thing was chained for 4yrs, there are many stuff he needs to learn. now, he's safe and will have lots of love from us. love you rami read more
