Books and a library's windows looking outside

Small and cute library. Usually not too full with visitors, has good new books. The computers are always free to use.

I really like this library. Great place to study especially in the 'silent work area' room where people are just doing their own thing on their laptops or people just sitting around reading the newspaper. I came here on a Saturday around 1:30 pm to get some studying and there was a lot of people all over the library. Lots of seating, computers, books, and all sorts of things depending on what you are looking to do at the library. I never interacted with the staff nor do I have a library card but this place was very welcoming with the exception of the bad smell from other people's body oder. Overall, its a swell place, especially nice because there were no disruptive people, there are plenty of outlets around, and the Samtrans 120/122 bus stop is right in front of the library. There are also plenty of places to eat nearby and the Westlake Shopping Center is right next door. Hours on Saturday is from 10am-5pm and they close on Sunday. I'm not sure about the other days/times because Saturday is the only day I come here.

In retrospect, I think I was too harsh on my first review. What do you expect if a particular library is within walking distance from five (5) schools? Kids and students that is. You can't blame them for coming here to catch up on their reading, study or do their homework. It's what libraries are for. This particular branch provides plenty of after-school activities including the weekends. My kids used to come here to do puzzles and they would get a prize. They also have internet access and DVDs to check-out, and it's all free provided you have a library card. They actually have a pretty decent Foreign Film collection as well as mainstream Hollywood and G-rated movies for the entire family. We all should be glad that we have these types of FREE services at our disposal. Knowledge is power and knowing is half the battle. (He He...ready - G.I. Joe) OK, that was corny. No...I'm not being sappy. I'm just keepin it real.

I'm not sure why this library has a kids room if the staff make it very clear they don't want kids there. I would never go back

She came up 3 times and sent someone else who nervously said "I was just checking" when I said "how you doing" and before she scurried out. I almost felt bad for the young lady, but didn't appreciate the former surveilling me when they already have a camera upstairs. They can check if someone was sleeping, which I wasn't. The first few floors of the library aren't too quiet, which I prefer, but the 4th level and higher are quiet study areas. There are also plenty of electrical outlets, but they are scattered throughout along the walls and floor (not built into the tables like what more modern libraries have.) I'm not a SFSU student, but was able to come here with no issues to get some work and studying done. There is very limited paid parking around the area and the free street parking is impossible to find, but if your mobile and capable enough you can park unlimited for free at the mall up the street and walk over (it was about a 15 minute walk.) There are also several muni and bus stops in the area, so public transportation is probably more ideal. I like getting my steps in, so I parked at the mall and walked over. There is free guest wifi in the library for non-students. You just need to sign up for it with your name and email address, and the system emails you a one time password to use. The wifi is surprisingly slow, considering that this is on a college campus and I'm sure there are many students that rely on needing good internet speeds for their courses and studies.

Surprisingly there's a Help Desk where you can get a loaner laptop, you have basic computer questions. Basically this is a good place to start for your studying needs.

They didn't give me a specific reason for not allowing me too. Maybe they didn't like the content of the promotional materials related to Patrick Lew Band. I don't do PG rated music or Youtube videos. But I see how it is. That's fine with me. The good thing is, they didn't ban my printing privileges at any San Francisco library. If that were the case, that's when all the boundaries are crossed. I go to the library often to print documents online on my computer. I utilize most of my library visits in San Francisco for that alone. I print online at the library a lot because I don't like the cost and maintenance of printing things directly at home. But they do have a good selection of physical media here. I actually like this location more than the Ingleside branch because it's more spaced out and not as narrow in size and area. I only give this branch the 3 star review because of the lady who worked here who insisted I cannot place any of my band's flyers here anymore, based on experience dealing with her.
