You also have people double it as a remote office space ( Like the Founder of the Silk Road did before he got caught) but silence is always appreciated or the Librarians will let you know. This place has good workshops on different topics including art and culture . They also meet here for Shut up & Write group. I like playing their word games and puzzles and used to have access through my San Jose Public Library card, but due to budget cuts, they limited access to the NYT's games. I figured my solution was to get a card that gave full access! San Francisco, here I come! As I walked through the doors of this small neighborhood library, I was brought back to my childhood, where these small libraries had tall wooden bookshelves, Dewey decimal system wooden card drawers, and heavy-duty wooden study tables and chairs. What great memories! After securing my new library card (with a SF 49ers theme!) I was re-acquainted on how to access my NYT's! My librarycard is good for four years after which I will need to renew!

This is a small library yet staff here is very friendly. They have a good selection of items on what is on hand. I especially like how the DVD films were curated with various themes and staff recommendations. As with all libraries in the SFPL system you can request items from other branches and pick them up here if this is your local branch. The library is quiet and lots of tabes and chairs for reading which is welcome for studying or getting a project done.

This review is based on the toddler section since I only come here for my kids. We started over a…read moreyear ago when my kids were 2 and 4. There's a separate room just for kids which is a nice perk of this branch. The room houses books for all kids with a small section of hard picture books (which my 2 year old peruses), a wall of graphic novels for young readers (which neither of my kids are ready for) and then aisles of other reads for mostly ages 5 and up. There are also 2 computers with kids games and a fish tank. There are a few rounded kids tables with chairs and my least favorite... a dirty stained couch. As of now, we have been here maybe 6 times. The space is always clutter free and organized and there's usually not a lot of other people there. I have asked the staff a few times to help find books and sometimes they are less than friendly which makes me feel like a burden. Other times they are helpful and willing so it depends who's working that day. They have a no late fee policy which is great, and they automatically renew your books if they are late. Overall, this is one or the lesser exciting libraries I've taken my family, but it works for what we need.

The Ortega Library sits right between a middle school, an elementary school, and a big community…read morepark so calling it "busy with kids" is an understatement. I'm here often to pick up large stacks of books, and let me just say- the SFPL app is game changing for me as a busy teacher. I follow a bunch of librarian/teacher influencers, and the moment they rave about a new title, I'm on the app placing my hold. Picking up books is fast and painless. Everything is always ready in one spot in alphabetical order- scan your library card, stack your books on the check out pad, and the machine takes care of the rest. Get a receipt printed or emailed. Now, is it a little chaotic being surrounded by middle schoolers using all the computers? Sure. But honestly, I'm glad they have a safe, supervised place to hang out. And let's talk about the real bonus: the Mister Softee and Magic Frosty trucks often parked out front. Free books plus ice cream? That's an unbeatable combo. Overall, Ortega Library is a gem. busy, messy, joyful, and incredibly useful. They do a ton of community events also. Your library card also gets you free museum perks, which I still need to explore but love knowing exist.

The selection of books is really nice, and ordering books into the branch is easy. The summer reading challenge for kids has also been a fun annual activity. The library staff are wonderful and understanding even when we forget to bring our library card. The place itself is small but warm, welcoming and safe. The playground outside is also a great way for kids to enjoy their day. Highly recommend!

There are computers with internet connection and Microsoft Office programs for homework and research! A little bit of disclosure, I know the staff that works here as I worked at the Circulation Department myself while going to school at City College! Friendly staff members and good service! -- Circulation, Periodicals and Reference are on the 4th floor -- Books from A-N: 5th floor -- Books from P-Z: 3rd floor Textbooks and study guides for each course are available via the reserve bookshelves if you need it to do your homework, study for an upcoming midterm or final exam. Some books from the reserve shelves are to be used in the library only. There are reserve textbooks that can be checked out for 1 day or 7 days. The professors determine whether the textbooks should be used in the library or take home so check in with the Circulation Desk staff. There is a room where the change provider and copy machines are, the adjacent room is where library workshops are held. A reserve book room is adjacent to the circulation desk, there is a copy machine in there as well with 2-5 desks in there for studying. The other 3 copy machines are on the other side right near the computers are. -- Group Study Rooms are available and can be reserved at the circulation desk. The Media Center is across the hall from here, audio visual rooms are on the 3rd floor, LAC and language lab are on the 2nd floor. This campus may look crappy, Rosenberg Library is one thing to like about going to school at City College of San Francisco - Ocean (Main) Campus!
