This is by far the worse library I have ever been to! I often visit the different libraries throughout the bay are to get some work and studying done, and this little library in Pacifica is pretty bad. It's pretty small and only has a few study tables available (none of them have electrical outlets on them.) I made the mistake of coming here at 2:30pm on a Thursday afternoon as the place was full of high schoolers singing and yelling inside the library, and the group at the table sitting next to me in openly eating at their table and singing along to tiktok videos on their phones! I prefer libraries that aren't too dead silent since I don't like to feel self conscious when wrestling items out of my bag, but eating, singing and yelling inside is really unacceptable. I read the other reviews about the noise levels here, but thought they were overreacting... but all those reviews are a huge understatement! I've been able to get a good study session on at crazy sketchy libraries in central Minneapolis just fine, but the little library in Pacific is the worse! During the 2 hours I was here, I saw a lot of people simple come and go and drop off books quickly... no wonder no one really wants to hang out in the library because of the crazy noise levels. And the librarians did absolutely nothing to help the situation (they just sat behind their desk, acting oblivious about it.) Don't come here! If you need to, just grab your book and go read it outside by the pier! read more

The head librarian is rude and needs public relations classes. I was there with a senior citizen who needed help with signing up with audo books. The counter person was wonderful but it was taking some time to figure out how to conect with passwords and new product. Head librarian kept finding jobs for our counter person to do even though there were other employees not busy and kept walking behind the checkout counter where we were with her inpatatient looks at us. In spite of this, the counter person was still willing to help us. Finally head Librarian told us we'd have to come back and make an appointment. Never had to make an appointment at any library I've been to when I've needed help with my audio books. I was ashamed for my friend and embrassed to have brought my friend here and to have been treated and dismissed in such a rude way. Isn't the library here to help? It has ALWAYS been in every other library I've been to. read more

I love using the San Mateo County public library system to reserve books on hold, and it's so convenient to come here to pick up the books and take a stroll on the nearby beach! This library location is a little small and parking is limited, but it's my go-to location for getting in and out and borrowing books shipped from around the county. During the beginning of the pandemic, they had such a cute and convenient contactless pick up station outside. This little library is such a special part of Pacifica. It's always nice to look out at the ocean when exiting the library! read more

A cute library with nice little out of the way desks to work at. But it just may the loudest library I've ever experienced. Kids yelling, running around and no one managing them. The library staff could be heard chatting with each other from the back of the library. Very difficult place to try and concentrate on my work! Great if you want to bring your kids to play, but most definitely not a place to work & study! read more

They allow their patrons to eat in the library. My kiddo couldn't use the toilet because a homeless was shampooing and bathing in their facility. The whole library smells like body odor....ugh read more

It was my first time here. I brought my laptop and needed a quiet place like a library to do my work or else I'd have just gone to Starbucks. I got there around 1pm. So far, so good. Around 3pm a bunch of kids start pouring in and some with their parents. It's now turned into a loud, obnoxious day care like atmosphere with kids running around, banging on toys, being loud and their helicopter parents enabling it. I packed up my gear and left but on the way out I comment to the gentleman at the desk that it was my first time at this library and I thought libraries were supposed to be quiet. He smugly responded "oh not anymore". Is that so, I responded. I told him that he"s out of line and that libraries are designed to be a quiet place to read, study and focus and not a school yard. The parents that allow their kids to disrespect the peace of others are rude. Like blowing cigarette smoke in someone's face or pissing on a public toilet seat and not cleaning it up. I was going to leave 4 stars for this place but due to the dude librarian and his smug condescending attitude, I'm giving it one star. Starbucks is much quieter. read more

Review of Baby Story time. - Monday's. It's 30 minutes long. I like the songs the librarian sings. "Welcome XXX" and "Good morning in different cultural languages". She also sings a song using sign language. Love that! Parking - can be tricky because it's perched up on a slope. The library itself is a bit old and grungy. It faces the ocean though. read more

The Pacifica Library smells like it is about a thousand years old. But I do love libraries, and this one is a decent size. Free books on loan are a wonderful thing, but if you must spend some money, there is also a shelf of books for sale at incredibly low prices. read more

First time at this library and all I can say is, it's SMALL. Very small. and yes, it's got that old book smell. If you are looking to study here, come early in the morning, bring headphones or ear plugs to weed out the noise, and you're good to go. Free parking. read more

I live in DC and use this library often. DVD collection is way better than any of the Daly City libraries and the coast so close by to go for a walk or check out the waves. A few internet pc stations, a decent childrens area, solid music collection, and a self checkout machine. One of the better libraries in the county, to be honest. read more

My opinion of this library has changed since coming here on a weekday trying to get work done. As soon as school lets out, a group of middle school kids have taken over the library. Which is fine. But they think it's okay to bolt and race through the library down the stairs outside and back in, like 20x during their 3-4 hours stay. It is incredibly distracting of seismic proportion. The librarians here must be used to it, as no staff seems to be doing anything about it. Maybe a playground outside would be more appropriate for those who can't sit still and use the library for what its purposed for? Unfortunately, this library is becoming more like a playground. In a previous visit as well as today, a lady was talking on her phone loudly inside for an extended period of time. I guess bring ear plugs to the library next time. But that won't help the seismic bolting and racing through the building. read more

I'm kinda dissapointed. Just moved to the area. I thnk I'll just keep using SF libraries. This library smells like an old library. I'm ok with that. There is a parking lot, that's convenient. There is wireless internet here, but the signal is not very strong. It went in and out on my iPhone while I was there. The librarians here were nice. Yea! I will plan to come to baby story time sometime. Small selection of books and movies, in a small library. Interesting that they are set up together into the Peninsula Library system, and you can borrow from any library in the system, and return books to any branch. This is great. BUT, you must pay a 75c fee to reserve materials to be held and picked up, even the book or other item is at the same library you are going to. I think this is antithetical to the public library system's mission. This is just one more barrier for people to use the library, people who are without the means to pay or travel to other branches. Unless you want to spend $. If you are willing to pay, the entire collection of the Peninsula library system is easily at your disposal. If you cannot pay, you are only use the collection at your nearby branch, or have to travel across the peninsula to do so. So, I've now gone to two of the storytimes here. Wednesday 7pm Family Storytime (all ages) Really sweet librarian led storytime. Held upstairs in the children's book area. Lots of books, board books, and a few toys to play with. The librarian was friendly, warm, welcoming. 4 young students (teens) read a story each and then there were some songs and rhymes. After the structured time, there was a craft project set up for those who wanted to. Others stuck around and visited. It was nice, I will definitely go back. Monday 11am. Babies and Books (0-18months) Nice librarian led storytime. Seems to be geared to a bit older toddlers. Came into the library and headed upstairs to the children's area where the Family Storytime was held last week. No one came, so I went to the front to ask about storytime. The librarian at the desk was a bit short and cold and told me it was downstairs, and looked back down at her computer. I wasn't sure where, but went to look. Back downstairs in the entrance, there was a closed room with no signs that this is where storytime is held, but opened the door and there it was. The librarian leading the storytime welcomed us in. It was a combination of stories and songs. Cool, one song with sign language! After it was over, I felt we were not welcome to stay and visit wth the other parents. The regular librarian had to rush off, it seems this is not what usually happens. Some other staffers put things away, and then asked us to roll up the large area rug and put it in the next room when we were done. Really? Those of us left were all with young infants, so the logistics of us putting away the rug was strange. And, it felt like we were being rushed to leave. I didn't like this. Normally, the storytimes I've gone to were also a place to gather and meet other moms/dads/caregivers. A time to talk, ask questions, build some parent community. I did not feel this here. I may or may not return to this storytime. Perhaps will be different when the regular librarian stays. ??? read more
