Even though the doors will officially open on August 18th 2018, I'm already experiencing great service at this location. Wi-Fi is already active and very fast. The design staff was thoughtful enough to for an access point above the Book Repository location in the front of the building to provide public Wi-Fi access to the people on the sidewalk in the front. Benches and sitting stones out in front are already installed and very comfortable. Just just to sit on and take in the beautiful late summer day in Half Moon Bay. Lots of bike lockup rings as well as skateboard /scooter lock up slots in the front of the building. There's even a bike work stand that includes lots of tools you might need to perform a field repair of your bike. And an air pump to put air back in a flat tire too. there is an electric vehicle charging station in the parking lot entrance off of church. Slots for two vehicles to charge at one time. The building itself is absolutely gorgeous on the outside. The building at night is lit up beautifully. I look forward to eat using even more services and facilties of Half Moon Bay's excellent new library!

Reading the other reviews, I realize that different people expect different things. For me, this temporary location library is P E R F E C T. We want children to love books, to learn, to play, to become our makers and leaders of the future. We, meaning me, my 6 year old and my 4 year old came today to see and learn about 3D printing. Sabrina, our helpful librarian today, earns major kudos for helping the boys for our two hour appointment to print a shark comb, two shark fidget spinners and a multi-pieced shark build it yourself kit. While setting up, finding files, copying them to SD cards, starting prints, keeping children safe, the boys were mesmerized. We stepped away briefly to meet in the children's area with the California Park Rangers who taught us about seed propagation and wildlife, we got signed up for summer reading programs, we were offered free books to keep, and we sat in a rocking chair and read together about sharks. And I reserved books on permaculture, aquaculture, fish farming and fish protein! Yes, sure, we made more noise than I've ever made in a "sssush library" and we are all waiting for the new big library with room for quiet and noisy areas. And my pre-school and kinder we're enjoying multiple areas, 3D printing and the Yellow Submarine area and occasionally receiving the eyebrows of elder readers. Everyone was polite, friendly and most of all, two early readers fell in love with the library, books, reading and 3D printing. Thank you again Sabrina, Ranger Ellen and Rachel Here's the sign up for 3D printing: https://smcl.org/computers-technology/3dprinting/

I love the new open and bright library. If it wasn't too inconvenient, I would come back! There are sewing machines upstairs in their maker space to borrow.

Possibly the worst library I have been in. Crowded with noisy children & teens sitting on the floor blocking access while they chat.

I am beyond furious at this center. My LGBTQ child matters... but not to THIS organization…read moreapparently. They strung us along all summer when my child needed services. Finally set something up after 3 months of waiting on their waiting list for 9/1. My daughter was SO happy to finally speak with someone. The therapist she was assigned to cancelled last minute, saying that she had "things come up" and wouldn't be able to see her and gave us resources to help find a therapist. She was devastated. We waited 3 months for THIS? Now I'm at ground zero with a depressed, vulnerable child who needs a professional NOW! They are so unprofessional!!! Do NOT use them. They'll string you along like they did to us!

They have a great lounge area and a well-stocked resource nook for those who are looking to get more LGBTQIA+ knowledge or just chill out and browse the web for a bit. They also have a wall full of flyers detailing the wide range of all their events, resources, workshops for any young, old, questioning, out and proud, curious, community-seeking individual. (or a straight ally maybe looking to volunteer? hint...) This center is pretty new having been open since this June, so if you're reading this please help spread the word, and drop by the center sometime if you can, because it's really quite lovely and a looong overdue addition to the San Mateo area.

Driving down Highway 1 after you past Devil's Slide and La Costanera, you could easily pass by this…read morelighthouse without knowing it exist. Unless you're looking for it, you'll catch a glimpse of it when you're driving southbound. The place is currently closed to the public (for obvious reasons) but prior to Covid-19, anyone can visit the compound and it provides free parking. There are also benches to have a quick picnic and you'll have a great view of the Pacific. If you're feeling adventurous, there's a trail that will lead you down a hidden beach below. Prior to a storm, I can find myself just watching the powerful waves crash against the rocks along the shoreline and the sound and site is just mesmerizing. It's one of the best therapies you could ever have and it's a stress-reliever. Best part of all, this whole experience is free. The lighthouse itself is not open to the public, but you can roam around and enjoy the grounds and scenery. There's a house that was built in 1863 that provided additional 2 bedrooms for the quarters, and it is very well-maintained. In 1961, an additional duplex structure was added with a 3 bedroom unit. These buildings are now a hostel next to the lighthouse, so please be mindful of their guests and just respect their rules. In 1991, the place was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The original lighthouse was built in 1875 to guide the boats along the coast, and it originally used kerosene lantern. In 1912, it was converted into a fourth order Fresnel lens. In 1881, the current tower was built and upgraded in 1928 with parts from the discontinued Mayo Beach Lighthouse from Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The lighthouse has been standing here since, perched along the rocky coast. Not bad for a lighthouse that's 145 years old. Wish I'll look this good at that age. #YelpChallenge2020 review No. 18
