This is the kind of bookstore I really respect. It's straightforward, packed with interesting books, and run by someone who clearly cares about what they do. It has a comfortable, no-pressure vibe and offers a great mix of new and used titles. I ended up walking out with a big stack for my personal collection. The used section in the back is especially worth checking out, with hardcovers priced at two dollars and paperbacks at just one dollar. The owner is a solid guy. Very helpful and happy to special order anything you might be looking for. That kind of service is hard to come by these days and really makes a difference. Parking is on the street, but I had no problem finding a spot. The store's in a walkable area surrounded by local cafes, antique shops, and restaurants. You're also just a short stroll from the coastline and the pier, which makes this an even better stop if you're looking to spend a laid-back day in town. I really enjoy places like this. Does anyone remember what a bookstore is? I barely do, and I used to hang out at them even before the emergence and eventual demise of the superstores. I thought Jeff Bezos killed them all, including his own Amazon bookstores. But here remains Florey's who has been in Pacifica since 1977. That may be 45 years in human years but a mere nanosecond in a bookworm's life. I'm not a bookworm but I am a good browser. As a family-owned indie that reflects a great deal of care in their selection, this is a great place to browse, and the used section is chock full of yet-to-be-readopted books, just $2 for hardcovers and $1 for paperbacks. The owner is a very kind person. Makes all the difference in how you're treated as a customer. What I enjoy about this shop, is the back room, where the discounted books are. We usually find a book every time we go here. Feels good to support small business. If you know that you'll be in the area, hold off on ordering stuff online and give this place a chance. If the owner doesn't have the book, he is more than happy to order it for you. Parking has never been an issue for us. This place is a GEM!!!! I brought my son here and this place is super relaxing and kid friendly. The owner is welcoming and kind. Very professional. I browsed in the Used section and scored a Toni Morrison book to my surprise "Beloved" a Signed hard copy of Jia Tolentino's "Trick Mirror" for only $2!!! The Nightingale by Kristen Hannah, 2 Sandra Cisneros books, a Minecraft book for my kid, and a Snuggie Bain novel all for under $30! You can't beat that! This is the most I've ever scored with thrift shopping for books. I will be coming back here again. I'm surprised after all this time, I haven't been shopping here sooner! Definitely WORTH IT!!!!!!! Everyone should come here at least once to experience the amazing books here used and new. such a hidden gem!! i was in search for a used book around the area and found this place. first thoughts: clean, organized, and had so many selections! this bookstore holds books for any age and any genre, i love the variety. since it was my first time coming here, i explored a bit and i found my way to the back area where i found exactly what i needed - used books! and in really good condition and awesome prices the used books section had books for $1-$2. $1 for soft covered books and $2 for hard covered and this made my wallet very happy lol. also, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. the clerk was very friendly and helpful. it definitely made my experience here memorable and will continue to support this family business. read more

my daughter and i love aaron and floreys! to start off floreys is such a cute bookstore that gives off such welcoming and cozy vibes. we usually go for kids books, and the selection is amazing! my daughter always has a ton of options to choose from. aaron is honestly so sweet, he always gets us all the books that we want! we have come with list of books and he always is able to get them for us, and if he doesn't have them, he ordered them for us and no extra cost! floreys is one of pacifica's hidden gems, and it deserves to be appreciated by all. we will definitely keep supporting floreys and i highly recommend everyone checks out this amazing bookstore! read more

I feel like Ive been living under a rock because I had no idea this gem of a bookstore existed!!! I recently placed an order via email and Aaron was able to get the book for me and I was able to pick it up within that same week! They don't have a huge selection. If I could bring one inanimate object with me to a deserted island it would be a book. I love books. I have always loved books. I have a library in my home. Most people have a modest library without even realizing it. I always tell little kids and their parents "If you own more than one book, you are rich because you have a library." Book smarts = wealth. When I was really young, I learned how to speak English by reading books. Dr Seuss was my favorite because he had crazy creatures with words that rhymed. For a young reader, that predictability was a lot of fun. As a kid, Judy Blume made things make sense for me. As a teenager, VC Andrews' dysfunctional and disturbing books made my teen angst less "angsty". In college books held the key to answers for questions I never tire of asking (college has a way of teaching us to ask ask ask because that is how you learn). Now that I am older, I read the classics, I read political books, I read how to books. I am often found with my nose buried in a book. I read a minimum of 10 books a month. I can't sleep unless I read for at least an hour first. I am a voracious reader. Books have always been a prevalent part of my life. It can provide an adventurous escape, an avenue to end confusion for a multitude of questions, an opportunity to learn a new skill, or an indulgent method of learning about people in the world we inhabit without actually using up their precious time (or they could be dead like Lincoln). I learned about Florey's 16 years ago when my now 21 year old daughter was struggling with reading. I needed ways to help her develop a love for reading not just because you have to read for school, but because I really love books. The late Mary Florey sold me teaching aids that were similar to what my daughters' teacher used. I was so grateful. It has been 16 years since I last visited Florey's. Interestingly enough, I went back recently because my younger daughter loves this store. She is usually here with her best friend looking for books that they can buy with little pocket money. I asked Aaron about his business because I wanted to write an accurate review on this small town gem. Here is what he shared with me: Florey's was originally opened by Aarons grandmother and uncle. He inherited the business and has been running it for the past 18 years. Florey's had to move several times because of high rent and low sales. You-know-who soulless online vendor (starts with an A) literally choked this great mom and pop to near extinction. At one point, Aaron took on a part time job while his grandmother, Mary used her retirement to keep the doors open. Listening to him describe this tenuous time in Florey's past reminded me how important it is to support mom and pops. Now e-books. I am kinesthetic. I like holding the actual book and turning the page. Aaron admits he loves to find books great homes. I love that sentence stringing because book lovers can identify with that sentiment. He is great with recommending books that are like books you like, or finding a book that you will enjoy - just ask. He's really nice. The used book area takes up about a quarter to a third of the shops' square footage. You can buy hardback books for $2 and paperbacks for $1. You can find textbooks and reference books here sometimes. Donations of books you aren't loving anymore are always appreciated to keep the resale prices low and again - as Aaron said "find great homes for books". I love this store. It is bright and clean and offers various areas to sit. There is more quality than quantity of merchandise, but don't let that deter you. Aaron is happy to order any book from the publisher. It usually takes just a day! There is a knitting group that meets here every Friday. Once a month there is a featured guest speaker on a topic that is sure to enhance your quality of life. Aside from books, you can find handmade jewelry, cards, scarves, and various gifts (see photos). Visit this great store. Donate the books you no longer like. Pick up a new book or two to love. You know your hard earned money is supporting a great business when you shop here. My younger daughter has discovered many books she loves here. Her personal library is growing in leaps and bounds. Her bookshelf is overflowing. That makes this mom really happy. Wonderful mom and pop bookshops like Florey's makes our love for books an affordable, personable shopping treat! Ah! Oliver Twist. That is the book I would take with me if I were allowed one inanimate item on an island. That book has a way of rousing my spirit and making me smile. Aaron really loves what he does but shared he thinks there is room for both e-readers and books. I would be devastated if the written word became obsolete, but I use both Kindle and buy books so I agree. If we all bought just one book from here - it could survive. Reading is still fundamental. Florey's is a godsend -- an old-school small business, with an owner who cares about and knows his stuff, and who can quickly get what you need if he doesn't have it. In addition, the used book area in the back, is fabulous for browsing, and super-affordable! (Note that it's not 100% sorted, although you can definitely see that there is some order to it, and then pockets of stuff that probably need to be shelved. There are some amazing finds in there, in a variety of ages, conditions, language and subjects.) I frequently go in for one or two new books as gifts, and come out with those AND an armful of treasures from the back room. Quite a nice little shop with a fair selection given its small size. Fantastic kids section, full of books for making smart kids smarter. (And yes, I even bought a children's fairy book for myself on a recent visit. I dunno what that means - making a dumb adult dumber?) Among other themes, they specialize in great local books, like vintage surf chronologies, history of Pacifica's railroad and the like. (Still looking for something along the lines of "Pacifica, California Coast's Best Kept Secret." Perhaps I'll have to write that one myself . . .) Great local independent bookstore! I've been here several times and although they don't have anywhere near the mammoth selection offered by your nearest chain store they can order anything and it arrives in just a few days. And you're supporting a local P-town business (an increasingly endangered species). Last week I discovered that they had a used book section hidden in the back containing some very cool stuff--some of it very old. I also bought my 2008 calendars here. A nice bookstore with great atmosphere. I got some bargains in the used book section, which didn't feel as picked-over and cleaned out as some stores can be. The kids' section was good and had a lot of educational stuff that must be meant for teachers and home schoolers! I especially appreciated that there were many, many chairs and barstools convenient to sit on while browsing the shelves. Because they get in the way they'd make it hard for wheelchairs. But if you use a cane or crutches, you'll like this bookstore. read more

If not for Yelp, I would never have known there was a bookstore in Pacifica! Florey's is tiny, but they have a nice selection of new and used books. Fantastic bargains on the latter. My daughter and I found a few nice books between the two of us, and I made a mental note to come by again soon. This seems like the type of store where you're never sure what you might find -- and I think that's a good thing. I noticed Florey's holds events and workshops on occasion. In fact, on the day of my visit there was an allergy workshop scheduled for later in the day. I wish I'd had the time to hang around! I'm sure I could have benefited from that. read more

I love a good bookstore. Sadly in this day and age, good bookstores seem to be going the way of the Dodo. I hope that this is not the case. I happened upon Florey's when my friend invited me to a poetry reading. Yes, that is right, they have legitimate California style poetry readings once a month. I like poetry. I have not written poetry since I was in high school. Now when I say California style, there legitimately was a poet who was accompanied by a flautist so literally they were not holding back anything. It was actually kind of AWESOME. It is one thing to read a poem. But when you hear a poem vibrating in the timbre of a human voice you understand why the poem was written. Now when the human voice is that of the author, well things just went up a notch. They have an open mic at the end too, so you do not have to be published to get on stage. Personally, I am far too great a chicken to go up and read my innermost thoughts. However, I will admit that having attended I started writing poetry in my spare time again. Problem is I had a lot more spare time for poetry when I was in high school. I have since gone back to Florey's during the light of day. The employee was knowledgeable and they have a respectable collection of books. What they did not have on their shelves they would order for me. They also have a little seating area with cozy chairs to sit and identify if you would truly enjoy the book by reading a bit of it. read more

This place is such a cute little find. It really grows on you when you notice the great book selections, cute little crochet animals and hand sewn bookmarks (from their sewing classes!) and very chill (no music) vibe. Lovely plants and artwork inside and bay windows bring in lots of sunlight while you look things over. The owner (Aaron) is a real sweetheart that will always special order things for you and provide relaxing conversation. I think it is funny that a reviewer here complained about the used books not having prices marked. That is because they are all ONE DOLLAR! It's fantastic. The owner also has an encyclopedic knowledge of books in general, and especially the store. I always found things well organized and he is able to look up anything you need right away. read more
