Its location in Westlake makes it convenient for a visit while picking up food or groceries; however, the westlake parking lot can be pretty full given the number of the stores. The booksellers are very friendly, quick to ask if you need help finding a book or offering recommendations. As for price point, there is something for everyone! They have a free shelf of donated used books, resale of used books, as well as new hardbacks and first edition signed copies. A great little bookstore smack dab in the middle of Westlake Mall. takes me back to the times I used to forage for good fiction and some non-fiction around the Bay whenever I stop by. the front of the store seems to be where the majority of the used books are located and there's even a tall shelf full of free ones that one can opt to donate some $ if so inclined. I usually peruse the sci-fi/fantasy section and never come away disappointed. i've also noticed some graphic novels and comics, a children's section and a calendar of community events centered around reading. what a wonderful and welcome addition to the area. read more

I love cute local bookshops like this one! They had a nice selection of new and used books. You can also donate books. In the front they have a section of free books that you can take which I thought was super cool! The person at the front told me you can take as many as you want! There is also a section of bargain books at the front for $5 or less! I saw a lot of books I've read before such as The Pilot's Wife and Room in pretty decent condition! I bought a new book at full price. It was in pretty much immaculate condition and I wanted to support this nice bookstore! I used to buy most of my books on Amazon online but half the time they come scuffed so I kind of stopped doing that. Come by and support this cool local bookshop! read more

I usually come to Westlake mall for spas, i stumbled upon them because I was here early before my appointment and the front desk recommended Ross & the Burlington coat factory. The book store is half way between the two stores. I love how they have handwritten community picks next to the actual book posted and their pre-teen sections was two full bookcase full. The children section in the corner is so cute, currently celebrating Halloween, my favorite holiday. I also overheard an interesting conversation this afternoon and was impressed by the small but might selection of religion. I got a much needed metaphysical book that I had from years ago at a discounted price today along with a cutie kitty bookmark to go with. They feature fictions, romance, biographies and I saw a book about the growing population of homelessness in the US and how they felt they don't belong. I have recently watched shows about struggling families and economic impacts to the poorest of America by the administration in our current economy. I walked around several times when it was quiet and the entire experience of my visit was so pleasant. I don't care how amazing ebooks and AI are, I would still go to and support physical bookstores just to revisit fond memory lanes of the past happy times spent in book stores. So far, good service, I will definitely visit Peninsula books again in the future. read more

Nice addition to the already busy plaza. From what I can tell it has a mixture of new, regularly priced books as well as used books. I liked that it has a lot of Asian fiction and non-fiction books, which I don't see a lot of in bookstores. I was able to find a book that had been on my Good Reads list for a very long time. read more

What an amazing community bookstore! I visited Peninsula Books during an author reading for poetry month. It's conveniently located in the Westlake Shopping Center so parking wasn't a problem, though you may have to park farther if you come during particularly busy times. Park by Trader Joe's to get as close as possible. The shop itself isn't huge but I love their curated selection of books. They also have ample seating if you're looking to just sit and read for awhile. They have a large selection of kids books and even some arts/cards/etc by local makers. Love their focus on highlighting diverse authors, books, and arts. The staff is so great and helpful and I love that they host so many events, workshops, and classes! Such a great addition to Daly City! It is a small but mighty space. Every time I come in things look a bit different and there are new selections featured. I love that they are community oriented and host events like kids story time, author talks, and silent book club. There's new and used books, and even a free section. Great little used bookstore improbably located in the middle of the Westlake Shopping Center. Good selection. Good prices. Friendly service.

Walking by, I initially thought this was just a small library and used book store. It is, in fact, a full fledged local bookstore that sells mostly new books with just a good handful of used books and even a sections of freebies. The selection is well curated and the shelves basically have one copy of each book, for the most part, so the selection is much better you than you might expect given the size of the store. If you recall Waldenbooks from the 80s and 90s where you had a smaller bookstore compared to the massive Borders/Barnes and Nobles, you get the idea. I wish they had one at Stonestown mall. I bought a few kids books and they were the same price as Amazon, with the benefit being that I am supporting a local 501(c)3 non-profit. read more

Totally refreshing to find a bookstore in northern San Mateo County! Peninsula Books is a volunteer-run bookstore that sells new and discounted second hand books of all types, catering to all ages. More than that, they also have a bookshelf that contain free books to take home with no strings attached! Peninsula Books has a very thoughtful selection of books for adults and children, especially with a focus on diversity and multiculturalism. There are bilingual titles, including Spanish and Chinese throughout the store. We recently attended a children's story time and we loved the author. Kids were participating and enjoying the read aloud. We found new graphic novels for my son. The volunteers who staff the store are very knowledgeable and helpful. Finally, a bookstore in North County! Peninsula Books is a cozy little store with new and used books - a fantastic YA selection as well. They are also the first non-profit bookstore I've ever known about and are totally run by volunteers. I love Raquel and Nadia who have helped me find great non-fiction reads as I tend to default to fantasy and sci-fi. I highly recommend for the service and selection. OH, and I forgot to share that they have a community corner area where the books are free! read more
