Omg, way long overdue review for this library! So everyone knows about SFPL but Daly City is pretty fine as well. What makes Daly City Libraries special is that they're apart of the Peninsula Library System which offers a wide array of items with a bevy of titles! Admittedly I still use DVDs due to pinching pennies, challenging immoral corporations & supporting local libraries. Sorry Netflix & Disney +, but I love libraries like this too much to let them become history! Also books, magazines & staff make the branches extra special! I just wish they they had more days open with evenings & will always cherish when it was the Plandemic's lockdown, that they would send golds in parcels to our homes! read more

Very nice and helpful staff. Very clean and relaxed atmosphere. Best place to relax and read or get a book for kids' book reports.

I love this place close to home and all, but open hours are way too short (should close later than 6 or 8pm) and true there are a lot of louder rowdy children that are not disciplined by their parents or tutor . Not even asked to be quiet... Some kids sit in the adult section and talk non-stop, sing, giggle, and play while completely disrespecting other people who are trying to read or study. Not really library-like in that sense.. more like a free childcare place for them to play. Librarians need to calm 'em down so it feels more like a library. The kids do NOT even try to whisper, so spoiled. It worries me that these little kids would be the people of our future. How are they raised now a days?!! Seems spoiled by our lack of care. Are they taking advantage of this fact or are they just oblivious? Restroom smells like stink bombs and WOW looks like a battle field! read more

Today is 6/20/22. The John Daly branch should be open from 10:00 am till 6:00 pm on Monday. When I arrived around 3:30 pm the doors were closed, no explanation. On 6/18/22 I went to the Westlake branch which should be open from 10:00am till 5:00 pm on Saturdays. The library was closed as well at 1:50 pm explaining the closure with the Juneteenth celebration. How often do libraries celebrate the same holiday that are paid by our tax money..... oh no, let me rethink, maybe I should apply for such a library job myself!!!!! read more

John Daly Public Library - Libraries Near Me - Daly City, California

Minus 1 star for their weird hours. They're closed Tues and Thurs & weekends. Closes late on Wednesday but start at 11am Monday & Fridays 10-6 I struggle to find nice quiet spots to do my homework and such. This library is a less than 10 minute walk from my house. So I'll be here often now. I liked their silent room. Except for when someone comes in and makes it not silent. I'm trying to do my work here; not trying to make new friends; especially if the man is complimenting my beautiful clean Chinese skin complexion. LOLL. Came here to study for a couple of exams. Nice quite clean library until a half hour into studying. Their study room must be above a classroom or play area because I could hear kids screaming and yelling having fun with a teacher or supervisor yelling here and there. Nothing against Day camps or schooling but when someone wants to come to a study room, you expect to be able to study. This room just wasn't set the right set up. read more

My local library! My home away from home. Since Skyline college has an atrocious library, I go this library to get all my work done. I also regularly come here to borrow books and read magazines. They don't have the most extensive collection, but you can always request a book from another branch and have it delivered there. I think you have to pay 75 cents or so, but thats not going to break anyones wallet. I LOVE the view from the magazine area, on a clear day you can see the ocean! And even on a cloudy day, the view is always nice. This is actually the reason this is one of my fave libraries. Kids from schools come during the afternoon but the librarians do a good job of keeping them in line. Oh, and thank goodness they have a vending machine for drinks downstairs. I'm always thirsty after walking there from home. oh, and they have board games! i always see kiddos playing after school. read more

This library is a bit small, but I prefer it over the Serramonte branch. You can study and bring drinks with you. the only thing I dislike is the parking situation, and the lack of electrical outlets. Other than that, it's clean, pleasant and full of awesome staff. read more

So here are the cool things about the John Daly Library. 1. Like all the Daly City Libraries FREE wireless access for your laptop. Seriously, take your laptop into the building, turn it on and boom! on the internet. Why wait for the visitor computer or only have an hour on the regular computers when you can use your own? 2. Unlike some of the other nearby libraries, John Daly has a Creativity computer. Basically it comes with a scanner and something like Photoshop. You can work on your scrap booking, edit your pictures, whatever art you normally do, in case you don't have the cool programs on your own computer. Just no color printer nearby. Oh well. The library is pretty awesome with really friendly staff members, and now that it's at its new location (as of 11/13/07) there's double the space. 6,000 sq. ft. of totally sweet views. There's a study room for those group projects and lots of books. Well, almost. Here's the tiny downside, even though they received a ton of new materials at the opening, their still lacking in lots of books. Usually they can place a hold and have something brought to the library, but they could use some updated Spanish materials, a bigger Chinese section and definitely lots more non fiction. They seem to have a very good children's section though. Overall, this is an excellent library to study or just hang at. read more

This library is within walking distance for me which is a definite plus. It's new, clean, nice and has soda/water/juice machines on the first floor which is only a dollar! A freaking dollar! How awesome is that? I really wanted to give this place five stars because it's a really nice library, definitely a gigantic step up from its old venue, but I cannot. Why? There are not enough places to sit down and study. It is small. A tiny library (the building it is in is enormous, but the library only occupies the top floor). The placement of the few tables they do have for studying seemed to be non-strategically placed just wherever there is space. Call me paranoid (because I am), but I can't focus when there's people shuffling around and walking behind me, and standing two feet in front of me checking out books. There is also only ONE study room that is available, definitely not enough. Noise. Libraries tend to be quiet. They should be. This one is not. Even on a Wednesday evening, there are countless little kids running around and screaming and romping around in and outside of the library (down the hall, which both doors are open so their echo-ey piercing, shrill, children screams travel all the way in). I'd like to give this place five stars, I really would. But the lack of space, peace and quiet drops this place's rating down to four. That makes me a sad panda. Oh yeah, and the free wireless thing? Yeah, all the other libraries I go to have that as well. So, not something to raise the roof about, eh? read more

Good place . Decent library . I had to change my review to four stars because whenever I needed a library, this place was always here. The only downs sides are it closes at 12 pm in Saturday's and they charge you 25 cents per page. Hoevever they are not to strict on the 25 cents , if you do not have it, they will often let you slide. The librarians here are amazing. They seem to know where everything is a will put in that little effort to help you, wether that's lending you a little tape or helping you with a resume. They also get along great with they kids that attend a school here . However you will find the computers often overcrowded with kids playing games .Is that what our libraries are coming too ? I used to live up the block from here, and I wish I lived here still. This would be a nice spot for Jeff heads to do homework & research. It's not as quiet as typical libraries, but not too noisy. There is a study room should you need peace and quiet. It's clean - bathrooms were decent and it didn't have the musky library smell. The view on the clear day is beautiful! Computer stations were packed when I was there, so bring your laptop and fire up the free Wifi. Looking for a place to sit next to a power supply was hard too. Good job Daly City! read more

The place was closed when I came here, and there were some kids playing a basketball game in the gym. I can't judge if I haven't seen, but the building itself looked nice, and it offered refuge from the cold outside. I came while I was waiting for my cousins to pick me up. Bottomline: I would come again to check it out if I am in Daly City again! read more

This place is one of my go to study spots because it is very close by for me. However, I wish they would open during the weekends! I think it'll be very useful/beneficial for the community. I like sitting in the area near the windows with the divided table space. I do wish they added more study spots because sometimes it can get full :/...especially when it's after school hours. During that time, expect some quite some more noise! I never actually take a look at their book selection btw. But I've been here plenty of times to review the library for a study spot. read more

I really enjoy this spot. It's great for the kids in that there is a separate room just for them! The folks here are helpful. It gets a bit loud after school as the kids from the nearby schools come to hang out, but that's not a bad thing. Kids should have a safe place to hang out where they have access to books and spaces for study. read more

Pretty awesome library compared to the one in Gellert. I never had any problem finding parking. There's an indoor basketball court, which I have no idea why I simply cannot play in because whenever I go there, there are people already playing. I like how it was built, the design and facade and all. There's free WiFi, which is always a good thing if you don't wanna wait in line for a computer to use the internet. And it has vending machines! Gellert has like two but you have to walk to where the basketball court is. I also like how it's clean (duh, it's new!). But, like Tevina said, they don't do much about noise. They aren't strict about being quiet in the library. But it's fine, just as long as people don't start yelling across the library or something. read more

This library is a 5 minute drive away from my house. Its pretty convenient and cozy lol. I've mainly come here to use their computers whenever I need to print stuff out or get children's books. The staff is friendly and have never given me the scorned look when my little one is acting up lol. Although, I know I should take him outside when he does that. My fault. I live across the street from the library and feel that the library is meant for public use yet is NEVER open for the public to use. 3 out of 7 days is ridiculous. Not to mention holidays, so you're sure to have some weeks or months when we get a library that's open 2 days out of 7. I use libraries for a quiet place to study, read and research for work/school projects fairly often because I live in a household that stays pretty busy. Come to find out there's not much of a difference between the noise levels. There are heaps of kids there after school which is understandable, but their behavior within the library can be loud obnoxious and disruptive. Thought that living across the street would be super convenient but sad to find that it's limited hours hinders my use for it! I used to come to this library a whole lot about five years ago. This library is located on the third floor of the war memorial in Daly City. I used to come in the mornings when I was unemployed so it was pretty quiet, no children, and not many patrons. This is a very small library though so don't expect a huge selection. They have several public computers to use and staff is always willing to help; I made friends with a few of them but forgot their names. I came here a few days ago and they did a miniature furniture remodel wherein the children's area is at the far back and adult tables are more near the magazine room. I'm too busy to come here now and I do miss it. You can see the Daly City skyline and use your laptop near the windows - they do have free Wi-fi, but do try to come in on their off periods (the mornings) since I heard there are rowdy people who arrive in the evenings. read more

I like going to the library very much to get something good to read. Sometimes, it hard to find a good book due to it's small limit selection. While, the librarians are very nice in helping me find books, I suprise on how they don't have the most common of books. It's somewhat hard, finding a book, as the non fiction and fiction are mixed together. The graphic novels selection are small. While, the selections are not that great, the library is very quiet. The only other problem, I have, is it's hours of operation. Unlike Westlake, it's mostly close by five PM. So if you go to school or work during the day, and need to study or get something to read in the evenings. Good luck with that, the library will probably be close. read more

This is a great library, I've been coming here since it first opened, not only is it a library it has a gym and you can also book the hall for parties such as birthday parties and baby showers. I love this place and I recommend it for anyone who wants to get away but also may want to have a party! read more

This library has free wifi. It's not too far from bart or the bus stop. There also enough parking especially since it's near a neighborhood. The library is clean with tables and outlets for your charger. It's also a very quiet environment which is relaxing especially when you doing homework. Kind of small but there's enough room, you'll be able to find a spot to sit and read or use your laptop. read more
