The parking lot is so wide and well lit and looks so safe! There's also a family dollar in the front of the motel. The beds are so comfortable , clean, bathroom and carpet is so clean. It's just when u enter the room, smells something weird not sure if its urine but when the fan or ac on for a while, the smell stop. Theres lot of establishment closer like gas, food etc. I will definitely stay here again when time permits. read more

Driving from Nevada to Tennessee and was going to stay in Amarillo but that definitely wasn't going to happen so I kept on driving in search of a place to stay. Let me tell you I'm so glad I touched it out and got to stay here in shamrock. Didn't really know where to stay but this place called out to me as I'm more of a mom and pops place type of guy. I was greeted and welcomed when I walked into the check in counter super friendly. Wasn't sure about the room till I walked in and was pleasantly surprised as it definitely was better than my expectations super clean, bathroom was clean and nice, and the room was comfortable all in all. If I ever find myself in Shamrock Texas I will most definitely be back. read more

This was a great stay. Expecting I'd need to drop at least $100 for a decent hotel, I was pleasantly surprised to be quoted $65 for a room. As I pulled in I realized I'd stayed here with my family about 5 years ago. I was even more surprised to see that Upen, the gracious host, who I'm assuming is the owner, remembered me and my family and called me by name. The room was very clean, quiet, and the hotel felt safe. I had a truck bed and trailer load of several items that were secured only with a tarp. The parking lot had plenty of space to pull through and was very well lit, allowing me to sleep well without worrying about my stuff getting stolen. Great stay, I highly recommend! read more

We stay in this period motel every chance we get which is usually once a year. The rooms are meticulously clean and lovingly maintained-- and the service is friendly. The owners greet us like family and remember us from year to year when we call to make reservations. There are rooms with a view of the famous U-Drop Inn on Route 66. If you find yourself needing a hotel to stay, and you are driving on 40, and near Shamrock TX, please consider staying here!, at the Western Motel. The proprietors of this motel are absolute gems. Our truck broke down about 4 miles from this town, literally. Our crankshaft broke in two. Husband called and talked to some folks at a shop. (Will post a review about them also) had our truck towed to them. To make a long story short, had to order a remanufactured motor, and ended up staying in Shamrock for about a week and a half. But to get back to the Western Motel. Like I said, absolute gems. Uppen Patel and Jyoti took care of us in such a way, that it is a breath of fresh air that there are nice and caring folks still out there. Our stay would have been MORE stressful if we had not met this couple and stayed at their Motel. Room was clean, comfortable, welcoming. Even the housekeeper was awesome! She took care of us...and if you saw the movie "Cars", you will be happy to know that on the opposite corner is the "U drop in"! I cannot say enough of the hosts. But consider this, how many people go out of their way to make you feel like friends, and not just a guest or a customer!? We will DEFINITELY be staying here again on our next trip to KY! I was a bit skeptical at first glance, but I couldn't pass up the good price. Wow I am so glad I took a chance. This place is fantastic! It is very clean, it's got a very comfortable bed, and it has a wonderful shower with plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. Nice amenities in the room including coffee, bottled water, microwave, refrigerator, hair dryer. The bathroom has been nicely updated everything is neat as a pin. This motel is a huge rip off. I had been driving until 630am and pulled off at Shamrock to catch some Z's since its the only hotel town withnlin hundreds of miles. I go in and I am charged $90 for what I believed to be the day, was told checkout is at noon, thinking he meant noon the next day, go up to the room and tell my wife what I was told, she's in better condition than me and realizes I just paid $90 to sleep in a shitheap with papermache for walls, and that the checkout time was in 5 hours. That's $20 an hour, that's hooker hotel prices. I go back down and explain that the checkout time wasn't going to work, and am then told no refunds. If you're screwing hookers and don't care about cleanliness, great hotel. If you're a tired traveller, they will take complete advantage over you. Horrible hotel, hope it burns down. read more

When I checked in the man at the desk was incredibly friendly. He asked if I had any discount cards, AAA, etc. My response, "Does a disabled veteran card count?" "Absolutely!" It's not the Ritz, or the Westin. BUT it is a CLEAN, comfortable motel (that allows pets) at a reasonable rate. It's a "I need sleep Cause I've been driving way toooooo long" motel. There's no frills or room service. Hell, the 2 local restaurants close at 9pm so Taco Bell was our cuisine for the night. But for $70 (with a small dog) I got piece of mind at the price and the much needed rest I needed to continue my travels in a surprisingly clean room with cable, internet and a hot steamy shower. read more

Check in was super easy with competitive prices. Outside landscaping and building were well maintained. The room was very clean and well stocked with small essentials. I was vacillating between 3 and 4 star rating- convenient location, comfortable bed, friendly staff, nothin special but acceptable for sure. Mini-fridge, microwave, coffee maker. I went up to 4 stars because the bathroom looks recently remodeled (or the housekeeping does amazing job keeping it clean!) and I liked that they have a couple of small bottles of water in the room, bc you never know how good the water is in a new place. Limited tv stations but that's not why you're here anyway. Wifi works well though so break out your device if you need media. I travel across the country a couple of times a year. I'll put this on my list of places I'm comfortable staying. read more

On our way driving across Route 66 we finally stopped at The Western around 3:30 am. The place felt a bit shabby, but we let it slide because we were exhausted. After checking in and bringing our stuff into the room, my girlfriend noticed a huge bug crawling on one of the chairs. On further inspection we noticed more bugs in the room and we decided this was not the motel for us. I went to tell the office manager, to get our money back as my girlfriend packed our things. When I spoke to the front desk clerk he looked at clock, and then at me. "Seriously? We don't rent rooms by the half hour." He then refused a refund because he thought we "used" the room. After telling him the room is infested with huge bugs, told me that had keep 10% because we "used the room for half an hour" and we couldn't just "USE the bed for free like that." My girlfriend then went to explain that she was NOT in fact a whore and that his room had bugs. His response was simply "ma'am, this is Texas" She explained that her family is Texan and you still shouldn't have bugs in a hotel. The clerk got very rude and told us that we clearly didn't know the difference between roaches and crickets. As if having two huge crickets hopping around your room is normal, acceptable, and good business. Apart from the giant bugs, rusty tub and unpleasant smell, this place was just horrible. There are about a dozen other places to stay on this mile stretch of road. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

After going through a negative unexpected situation and not sure what was going to happen I was pleased to have met Jody (Owner). She made the best of a bad situation for me. I definitely recommend anyone passing through to stay the night or multiple nights here. It's newly renovated to everything still feels new. read more

I was driving through the area and just needed something for the night and was happy with this place. This is just a basic hotel, but was way better than a lot of the other hotel chains have been. It was clean, the bed was comfy, had a totally working bathroom (the fixtures all drained), lots of available outlets, working WiFi, windows that open, and a fridge that works and actually freezes things in the freezer section. You'd be surprised how many hotels just barely keep my water cold, let alone freeze my ice packs. There was no breakfast, but I'd rather no breakfast at all than the pitiful one most offer these days. The staff at the front desk were friendly too. Yep, I'd stay here again. read more

We had a great experience at this motel. While driving through Texas, we needed a place to stay overnight and booked this motel on our phone. The owner called us back right away to confirm our room selection, as he had some glitches with the website. It was very comforting to have a person call us. We were also able to give them our ETA. When we arrived our room was ready and although it was after midnight someone was there to check us in. The rooms are a good size and have been updated. The building is older but the bathrooms, heat/ac units, and decor are new. The room has mini fridge, microwave, coffee pot, and WiFi. It was exactly what we needed at a great price. If we ever travel back through Shamrock, Texas we will stay at the Western. read more

Addendum: 3 weeks later we discovered we had gotten scabies at this motel. We hadn't staid any place else. It wasn't the dirtiest motel I've stayed in but it was the second most dirty. The sheets were and the room weren't bad and the shower was clean but there was something behind the bathroom door that could have been blood or maybe it was the stain they used on the woodwork, that's what I told myself. Okay so out of all of the motels in the shamrock area this is the best choice. It's $20 more expensive but it's clean and that is all you have to ask for. It has also changed management to a young lad who is very nice and personally maintains the rooms so if you have problems that's your guy. If you are staying in this god forsaken wasteland I suggest staying here instead of the Motel 666 that place was horrible. The Western inn saved our family from perdition. read more

I didn't create the name for this, I don't why it says Western Motel the. The Western Motel was not our first choice of ratty motels on our cross country trip, but it was our 3rd full day of driving and we were exhausted, irritable, and unable to process much thought. This place was right off the 40 and relatively cheap so we stayed. To be honest, that night we just dropped our bags on the floor and passed out the second we hit the sheets. Well, first I prayed no one broke into my car and stole my life while we caught a few hours of slumber. Thank God we were too tired to really inspect the room that night or we may not have been able to sleep. Stains everywhere. Now any hotel/motel will have stains, unless you're in Vegas paying $600 a night for a room. Maybe one or two on the carpet...here, you saw more stain than actual carpet. The shower head did not work and neither of us were about to take a bath in the rust filled tub. Basically we stuck our heads under the running water and washed our hair the best we could. Even the towels were stained. I made the mistake of opening one of the drawers and found two pairs of underwear. That led to so many questions we just didn't want the answers to. Basically everywhere we turned in the place we were disgusted and annoyed, a great way to start the day at 4:30 in the morning. The only good thing, no one broke into my car. read more

Had a lovely experience at this place in the middle of a long road trip. Got to chat with one of the proprietors when I arrived, even though it was nearly 11pm, and got good advice about the neighborhood. The room and exterior look like they have been recently renovated/remodeled, and everything in the room was comfortable and clean. The man at the front desk was very nice, there was a small convenience store across the street, and the town seemed safe which is the only reason I am giving his a 2 star. The room itself was not great. There was what looked like a (hopefully) washed and dried blood stain on the comforter, stains on the sheets, stains on the towels, hair in the tub. I felt like after paying $70 for a hotel it should be a bit cleaner than that especially since they do not provide breakfast. I do not have high expectations, but I did not feel like this hotel was up to par. I wish I would have kept driving. I could have found something better for the price. read more

Best overnight stop we made on our cross country trip. Clean, friendly and quiet. A great spot on Old Route 66. All the neon and "Mother Road" feel you can stand. Only advice is eat early. They roll up the sidewalks just after sunset in Shamrock. Don't forget to use your AAA discount. read more
