My partner and I are retired and drive back and forth between Palm Desert, CA and Columbus, OH. We do this drive at least twice a year and have been doing so for more than 20 years. On Oct 30, '24 we stayed at the Motel 6 in Shamrock, TX. The owner checked us in and provided us with a very clean, quiet, well-appointed room at a very reasonable price. The owner even provided a recommendation to a local pizza place that later delivered a great thin-crust pizza to our room. We enjoyed a relaxing stay in Shamrock, mostly due to our motel experience. Two old dudes driving across the country with 2 cats in a loaded down mini-van pulling a small utility trailer is at best a trying experience. The Shamrock Motel 6 was a welcome stop in an otherwise stressful journey. Well done! read more

This Motel 6 is way better then most. This rooms are updated and very clean. The check in process was fast. I love they don't charge for pets to stay. We drove from arizona to Missouri. We stopped here in the way there and back. The only issue I had was I asked for an extra pillow and they said they already gave them out. The hotel wasn't busy at all. The rep. could have gotten pillow from other room. They also have a pool covered by a roof. I would recommend you can't beat 35 bucks! This room could easily be in a Marriott Hilton it's so nice. read more

Not impressed with this motel / not very clean bathroom floor/ shower wasn't very new/ faucet knob was so loose it feel off in you hand and no kleenexes in dispenser/ the bed was comfy but that was about it. I heard my dog eating stuff off the floor that was left behind. But when we woke up, we found two bed bugs just casually walking across the pillow. Not worth the money...go somewhere else! If bed bugs get into your luggage you can carry them in your car, and eventually to your home. They are almost impossible to get rid of. Beware! read more

This motel is clean with new carpet, paint inside, and beds. The managers went out of there way to ensure i had gotten a first floor room. I believe new owners. Some stuff was old like the doors peeling paint but you can see others newly painted Very clean, no dirt in corners and no bugs. I will stay here again next year when i go thru here again. read more

DISGUSTING! I understand that Motel 6 buys old motels and "fixes" them but c'mon. This placed had roaches and bed bugs. There was literally buggers and smushed bugs on the wall. The lamps and light fixtures were either unfinished or broken. The bathroom didn't seem to have been cleaned in ages... It was gross. For 60+ this is not worth it, might as well sleep in your car at a truck stop, at least you know it's clean! read more

Room was clean, everything worked, front desk was very friendly. Would have been a great stay,had we not seen the pool area! Cats live in there. There was cat poop in the inside flower beds, a film of cat hair on the pool water, and the smell of cat pee was overwhelming. Picture is of a stair landing, covered in cat hair and torn up by cats. Also,my moms rooms ceiling above the shower had mold. Was very disappointed because we used to stay here when I was a child and I loved it! It used to be so nice and I have great childhood memories of playing in the pool. I was hoping to take my son swimming in it. read more

My family is in the process of moving across the country [from Northern California to Tennessee]. After a really long day, we stopped to eat and find a motel. My sons were driving the pickup, my wife was driving the van with my two daughters, our dog and our cat, and I was driving the 26' U-Haul towing a Toyota. We were quite the entourage. We saw the Motel 6 sign a large "FREE WI-FI" sign, but we were reluctant because we initially thought it was abandoned. I drove the truck around and parked next to a couple semi's that were in a pot-hole-ridden dirt lot off the freeway. Motel 6 -- usually a reliable, consistently average place to stay for a large family -- rarely disappoints. In this instance, I was disappointed. To begin with, we needed two rooms because [obviously] putting 6 people in a room with two animals is a bit much. Although there were very few cars in the parking lot (we're talking 4 or 5 for the whole motel and a few big rigs) we got two rooms that were separated by several other rooms, which meant crossing through groups of people congregating on the walkway with BBQ grills, beer bottles and the aroma of marijuana. I did this trip with my daughter twice as we tried to get ice from the ice machine [which had an oddly "salty" taste] -- even when I poured bottled water over it. I did get to watch a man be pulled over, searched, handcuffed, and hauled off to jail. (The motel is right on the West-bound freeway -- like you take the exit and you are literally in the parking lot) Now I did give this place 2 stars because they are in the process of renovating. The rooms we stayed in were clean, nice, and comfortable -- but you would NEVER have known it from looking at the outside [or the other clientele]. Pets were $10 each which is understandable, although other Motel 6's have accommodated us without a fee. The staff was -- different. Our "free wi-fi" didn't work. I managed to connect for a few minutes and then it just stopped. I still had a full connection to the router (even listed as 'strong'), but the Internet was just gone. I tried calling the office, but it rang at least 10 times and I gave up. I waited 15-20 minutes (which I continually tried other wi-fi signals) and finally called the front office again. The lady said, "Oh, is it not working?" I explained the process i had gone through. She said, "Maybe it's the weather." I laughed and said, "Oh, you're serious? Why would it be the weather?!" (I should mention that it was 6/25/14 at about 7pm and it was a beautiful 70 degrees, no wind at all, partly cloudy, dry, gorgeous day." Her response made the "free wifi" all worth it: "Well, the forecast is for rain so maybe that did it." I sat dumbfounded and smiling at a phone trying to grasp for words that I knew I shouldn't say. "Thank you" was all that I could even utter. The bed was fairly comfortable, the shower felt like you were being massaged by needles, and 2 towels didn't go very far for the 4 of us in our room. But [aside from the Internet] the thing that bothered me the most was the air conditioner not functioning -- or, when it did, it make horrible noises that actually woke me up. [And having slept through freight trains passing my room at the Motel 6 in Mojave, that's saying something.] Would I stay here again? No. The cost for this pit was about $72 per room with the pet fee, the free Internet, and the "free kids 17 and under". Again, I am giving two stars because I see potential for improvement here. read more

This is quite the dive for a hotel, but on par with motel 6. If you just need a room for the night and jsut want to save some money, it's OK. Clean rooms, but very old stuff. Towels were like sand paper. Rust on faucet screws. No complimentary shampoo. I asked for a nonsmoking room and it stank of nasty old cigarettes anyway. Everything was super grimy, but I guess I shouldn't have expected less. Some things weren't working like the side lamp and the towels had holes in them. Definitely will be avoiding Motel 6's in the future. read more

I would have to say that during this cross country trip this hotel would have to win the gross award. Granted 1700 miles to go, but the bar has been set. I didn't see bed bugs as some mentioned, but, I'm relatively sure that that was fecal matter on the walls of the bathroom that went unseen until morning light. No one in this group has long black hair either, which was lining the tub. Smelled a bit musty and just a general feel of grunge. But the front desk help was polite at 3 am...so there is that. Checked into the room, placed my bags inside and went back to the front desk to inquire about where to find something to eat - it was after 10 and it didn't look like anything was open when I drove up. When I walked back into the lobby the clerk asked oh is everything okay with your room - this should have been a sign. I said it's fine and asked where I could get something to eat. She directed me to McDonald's. I make it back to the room put the food down on the table l and went to wash my hands. I started to open the bag of food and there was a huge cockroach crawling on the bag. So now I'm freaked out and thinking wow, did the bug come from McDonald's or the room? It didn't take me long to figure it out that the bug was from the room when I looked around and saw two baby roaches on the bedside table and another on the bed as I was collecting my things to leave. When I went back to the front to tell them I was leaving because there are roaches in the room it was a different clerk. She said they are just beatles. I said no I saw a beatle outside and wasn't really bothered by it, it is summer and it's kinda normal. She gave me a refund, that was nice but now almost 3 hours later at another cleaner, nicer motel I can't sleep because I'm still freaked out thinking that I may have taken some stowaways with me! read more

We stayed here because they are pet friendly and it Is about halfway between Arizona and Wisconsin. Would never stay here again and, in fact we would rather just drive straight through. Was very clean looking when we first arrived. Much nicer than a motel 6 we had previously stayed in. The bed sheets looked newer and the bed very clean. The TV was nice, a flat screen. It had a fridge and microwave. The carpets though seemed to be sticky on your bare feet and bugs in the pool so we didn't swim. The toilet flushed unreasonably loud and you'll need a sleep mask due to the lights outside all night. The shower was nice though and it smelled nice too. Would probably stay again if we had to stay in shamrock. Good for our short one night stay. read more

Motel 6 is dependable! We stopped in on New Year's Eve, the room was warm, clean, and had a wonderfully comfy King bed. We were checked in quickly, parked and got unpacked for the night. Even better was the restaurant in the parking lot, Mike's I think was the name. AWESOME diner & AWESOME food and service. I would stop back in Shamrock just for the NY Eve special, beans, potatoes and peach cobbler. It doesn't get any better than this! read more

I checked in here with my family (3 in all) on the night of Dec. 22, 2012. The hotel was still in renovation I found out but it looked new in appearance. The price was $70.91 (including tax), which is kind of expensive compared to other Motel 6 locations (about $50 ~ $60 for three). Anyway, our expectations for a good night sleep in newly renovated fresh room turned to a nightmare. 1) The location of our room was hard-to-find and tucked inside far from the parking lot. It was cold that night (15 degrees) and there were not many cars in the parking lots. We finally located our room by going back to the office to ask. The front desk's excuse for assigning such room despite many empty rooms along the parking lots was lame. 2) The door locks did not work. I had to struggle to lock. The front desk offered another room but it was too far and we had already unpacked things. 3) We paid for the WiFi but WiFi did not work anywhere. I walked around the hallway and even climbed upstairs with my laptop but no connection. They should have told me from the beginning. It took about one hour trying to find the room, fix the locks, and trying to connect to the WiFi. There was ONLY ONE EMPLOYEE that night, the front desk guy. It took 30 minutes to get an extra towel. 4) The furniture was old. I guess the entire hotel is still undergoing renovation. 5) Again, there was ONLY ONE EMPLOYEE . This fat young black male was very slow to respond and lacked customer-service spirit. This is the worst Motel 6 I have ever checked in. read more

I had a much much different experience then the other two reviewers. The rooms here were really big and swanky for a budget motel- the room was super clean, the beds were comfy, there was a flat screen tv with a ton of channels, the wifi was free and worked great. We got a smoking room so I can't comment on smells in non-smoking rooms.The guy at the front desk was really really nice, the woman at the desk was not so nice but not enough to knock off a star. I stayed here only overnight on my way to Arkansas. All hotels/motels along this route are above-average prices due to the interstate. I had to stay in the back section (smoking) because there were no single rooms available in the non-smoking. The room I had was adequate (despite the faint smoke odor) and I felt safe being there and it was clean with fresh linens. Face it...most who stay at Motel 6 do so because it is pet-friendly with little restrictions and/or the price...not because it is a luxurious place with a lot of amenities. So you get what you pay for. As long as Motel 6's are relatively safe and relatively clean and they accept pets that's all I expect. Some Motel 6's are better than others. It just depends on the location. If you read a lot of hotel/motel reviews many of the more expensive chains don't have such great reviews as the lower priced ones so that should be considered. Wi-fi was working and it is easy access on/off interstate. read more
