This place is very eerie. I got in late and spent most of my time drinking beer and smoking in the parking lot. I like the vibe tho! It's really spooky late at night. Stray cats and a chihuahua that hangs out where the truckers park. Motel 666.

These are only some of the bed bug bites I received!!

The room was OK. The price was fine. The king bed was two beds pushed together and not very well. The worst part was I got eaten up by bed bugs. The staff didn't really seem to care. I would not recommend this hotel at all!

    Bed bug on pillow

WARNING! BED BUGS!!! At first we were content with the motel. The beds were pretty comfy for a motel. The bathroom was a bit run down and the towels so scratchy. I heard my dog eating stuff off the floor that was left behind. But when we woke up, we found two bed bugs just casually walking across the pillow. Not worth the money...go somewhere else! If bed bugs get into your luggage you can carry them in your car, and eventually to your home. They are almost impossible to get rid of. Beware!

DISGUSTING! I understand that Motel 6 buys old motels and "fixes" them but c'mon. This placed had roaches and bed bugs. There was literally buggers and smushed bugs on the wall. The lamps and light fixtures were either unfinished or broken. The bathroom didn't seem to have been cleaned in ages... It was gross. For 60+ this is not worth it, might as well sleep in your car at a truck stop, at least you know it's clean!

Shamrock Country Inn - nice clean room

Krupa and Aaron were very hospitable, with Krupa greeting us, directing us to good food in the area (Mesquite Canyon Steakhouse), and letting us know her husband Aaron would be making eggs in the morning, included in the very affordable room charge. They were happy to make our eggs with olive instead of "vegetable" oil, and actually ended up doing that for all guests. Don't miss this sweet respite in your travels through Texas.

Let's be clear: this is not a luxury hotel. But for a basic roadside motel, it's a swell place to stop on a road trip. Our room was clean and fairly spacious; the beds were comfortable; the water pressure in the shower was good; and the location was just far enough off Route 66 to be quiet and afford us a good night's sleep. The solid construction of the building contributed to the quiet. The exterior of the building is well-kept, and everything has been recently painted, with the Texas star on the outside of every room's door. The rooms are equipped with old-fashioned wall heaters and A/C units; we stopped here in October, so they were sufficient for our needs. The buildings form a "U" around a paved parking area for cars and trucks right in front of the rooms; there is also a central gravel area for semis or larger vehicles. The night we stayed there, many of the rooms were occupied, and this seemed to be a favored stop for hunters. Wi-fi is available and free, but outdated by current security standards, so we did not use it. There is a breakfast room, with all the usual offerings; there are limited hot food selections, but they do have a waffle maker. Breakfast is included in the price of the room, which is already a great deal. The proprietor was very courteous, and check-in and check-out were extremely fast and efficient. It's just a 10- to 15-minute walk to Rusty's (a GREAT place for dinner) and the U Drop Inn Café (known from Disney's "Cars") on the corner of Route 66. We truly enjoyed our stay at the Shamrock Country Inn and will definitely stop here again on our next trip through the Texas panhandle.
