So I had a worker replacing windows in my basement tell me that the foundation of my 1887 house needed to be rebuilt, and he brought in a local guy who apparently does this type of work in my historic neighborhood. He told me it would cost $20,000 to take down the two brick walls and rebuild with cinder blocks and steel rods. I emailed Western Mass Masons last week about getting an estimate on my foundation, they responded promptly, and we made an appointment for them to come take a look. David Osiecki came this morning to give me an estimate. He said there is nothing wrong with the foundation, the slight bowing in the walls is to be expected in a house this old, and that I should have the buttresses that someone took out on one wall rebuilt in the near future. He is going to give me a quote to do that work, and I will for sure use this company for this and all future work. I will also sing their praises. Thank you for not taking advantage and for be an honorable, reputable company. read more
