They made a reservation on a Wednesday night which is when they have their broasted chicken and dumplings special which draws a crowd. We hung out at the bar with the locals beforehand and had a very strong old fashioned. The waitress eventually came to the bar and took our orders - we opted for the chicken special though you could also order from the regular menu which features many supper club standards.. When the food was ready they ushered us to the table. The broasted chicken was very good even the white meat was moist. The legs and thighs were excellent. I went with the potato salad but the others got the dumplings and raved about them. The coleslaw was very different - it was sweet and creamy vs. the typical vinegar base. We ended with an ice cream drink the Butterfinger Blast which was more like an ice cream sundae. It was excellent. It was worth the drive.

Mr. R went with one of the double smashburger options after asking how many ounces the patties were, and a side of tater tots. The burgers were really good, better than those offered at a couple of places we frequent. The mister regretted the double patty choice, as the patties were larger than expected, and he'd wished he'd gone with a single. Our server was friendly and checked up on us regularly. The Old School is, shockingly enough, housed in a former school built in the 1870s, with comfy bar stools and some cute school decor. There are a couple of patios for outdoor seating, and space is available to rent for parties and meetings.

The couple next to us had an issue with his prime rib (also a special of the day) being over done and he sent it back and ordered a hamburger. A group across the bar ordered a pizza and over an hour later were still waiting - again, no explanation. Very disappointed and not sure we will go back. No apology or discount offered by the staff. They were "busy" running around, but the place wasn't thatt busy. I think they were just avoiding interacting with the customers due to the poor service.
