If I could give zero stars, I would. Western Funeral Home has caused me and my family unimaginable emotional trauma during what was already the most painful time of our lives--my brother's passing. At first, I tried to be patient. I stayed quiet when they messed up the church arrangements we had discussed, forcing me to settle for something completely different. I stayed silent when they misplaced my brother's death certificate, taking over three months to provide a duplicate--only to later say the original had "suddenly been found." Not once did anyone take real responsibility. But today was the final straw. After months of waiting, I finally wore the bullet-style pendant they provided containing my brother's ashes--only for the pendant to unscrew and spill his remains all over my body and clothes while I was getting ready for work. I was absolutely devastated, sobbing so uncontrollably I couldn't go to work. This was supposed to be sealed--yet again, they failed. This was my brother's ashes, treated like an afterthought. And to top it off, they charged me for mailing the very death certificate they themselves had lost. When I questioned this charge and asked for it to be waived out of courtesy, I got no response. The lack of compassion is staggering. Western Funeral Home has shown nothing but carelessness, unprofessionalism, and complete disregard for grieving families. What happened to me is traumatic and unacceptable, and likely violates California laws regarding the respectful handling of cremated remains. If you're thinking of using this funeral home, I beg you to reconsider. Your loved one deserves better. So do you. Elvia was the only one who helped me here. Save yourself the headache and find another mortuary. Or ask to work with someone other than Adriana. The lack of communication has been frustrating on what is already a stressful time in our lives. We have a mortuary that we normally work with, but they were full at the time of our loved one's death. So we went with this place instead. From the beginning, it's been a hassle to communicate. We met on a Monday to make arrangements. Adriana said she would call to finalize everything Tuesday. We didn't hear anything. My husband would call and she would send a text that she was busy but would call back later. She never did. He called again Wednesday morning at 9, she sent a text that she was walking into the office and would call back when she got in. She didn't. He called again at noon and he got a text that she was the phone with another family and she would call him back. She didn't. So I called at 2 (I have a different number) and my call was picked up instantly. When I told her who I was, she said she was just about to call my husband. She claimed one reason she didn't call back was that she spent hours on the phone with my father in laws insurance company- we called this morning and they picked up in less than 5 minutes. In fact, I called them again and this time I was out on hold for 2 minutes. Yes, the hold button said my wait would be 3 minutes and they picked up in 2. Not hours. She claimed she had to search for a number, was transferred a few times- it was excuse after excuse. It could be true- but I don't need to hear the story on why you aren't communicating. I told her if she had returned our call we could have saved her the time and given her the correct number. We had received different info regarding insurance, but I told her I didnt think she was wrong. So she told me that I could put her on hold and call the insurance company again with her on a third line to ask them the questions I had. I don't have any! That was ridiculous. I told her I wasn't going to do that and she again repeated for me to put her on hold and call. Then she had the audacity to say that we have to understand she is busy and we aren't the only family she's helping. I told her I was good and hung up the phone. At that point called another mortuary and decided we will take the loss in paying additional money to transfer our loved one. When Adriana refused to communicate in a timely manner and then make excuses. We no longer felt safe in trusting her or Western Funeral home with our loved one. Maybe having one less person to work with will free up her time to communicate better with other families. To make matters worse, when my husband went to pay for them picking up the body, Adriana had him wait in the lobby for 15 mins while she was laughing and having a personal conversation with a friend. She took the money, gave him receipt and that was it. No I'm sorry I didn't work out, not I wish you luck, nothing. Very lacking in professionalism. read more

This time the situation was different since we needed to expedite the wake, and Adriana did everything possible to make it happen. They are very adaptable, the day that my dad passed away they were helping in everything, I asked to many questions and made many changes last minute, but they managed to help me with every single thing. If I could give negative stars, I would. The lack of communication is HORRIBLE!!!! They nickel and dime you to death!!! I had to call them to get any service done. They came and got the body on Friday and was told someone would call me. That did not happen. Saturday and Sunday no calls. I called them on Monday and was told someone would call me back. Guess what happened, never got a call. I called them to tell them the cemetery part was done and was ready to move on. Finally got the call to go to the office. Got there and the nickel and dime started. Finally got the total amount, tried to pay with my credit card and was told there is a 4% credit card fee. Told they the cemetery did not charge me and she was SHOCKED they didn't charge that. Adriana said that is standard in the industry. My dad has a policy to help with the cost but was told there is a $250 fee because the insurance company takes months to pay. I called the insurance company and was told once they have the death certificate they pay in 24-48 hours. On Wednesday I called 3 times and every time she was busy and got a text will call you back. I would give Adriana 2 hours between calls and every time she was busy. When my wife called from her number, she picked up on the first ring. She told my wife she was dialing my number when she called her. Got nothing but BS from Adriana. She told my wife to 3 way the insurance to prove her right/wrong. Adriana got frustrated and told my wife that we are not the only family she is dealing with. That was the last straw. I called Chapel of Memories in Norwalk to get my dad's body. She called me back to say what if we waive the fee would you still stay. I said no and I DO NOT TRUST YOU WITH MY DAD'S Body. I went to the office to pay for the service they did do, and she made me wait 20-30 minutes before she helped me. She didn't say I'm sorry or anything. Just took the money gave me the my receipt and said bye. Adriana lacks professionalism. read more

My niece found this place and was very happy with the owner and how sympathetic and kind he was with our questions. The following day, we lost our mother/granmother and from that moment on, we received the best service, beyond expectations. Elvia was our memorial counselor and it was a pleasure planning with her. She was always quick to text back and answer any questions and even suggested ideas to make the service as beautiful as possible. Her kindness and compassion was greatly appreciated.
