I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Sonia truly is the best in her game. from the point of the first conversation to the point that we laid my mom to rest, the entire process was very smooth. any request made, she was sure to fulfill in her ability, whatever way it was, but she always tried to find a way to fit the need of our request. Her and her staff did a wonderful job and took care of my mom. The embalming looked amazing. It truly did look like my mom. Her communication skills were five star. Very responsive always answered the phone or responded by text. If she didn't answer, I would likely get a call within 30 minutes. Very accommodating. At one point I had to deliver my mom's clothing and I live two hours away. I met her at 10 PM to deliver my mom's clothing for the funeral. She accommodated. Not many businesses will. She goes above and beyond and during these time of need. the less you have in mind, the better. She took care of everything and never did I have questions about her professionalism or ability to care for my mom's body and event. One recommendation would be to try to get the garden in Rosemead. Where do I begin. My brother's service was last week and it was as beautiful as a funeral can be. First of all, I need to thank Sonia from the bottom of my heart , for her empathy, her responsiveness, for her assistance in things I never thought I would ever had to do (sizing for my brothers clothes as he had lost weight) I type this with tears in my eyes, thank you.... Sonia helped me and my nephews through every step. She was straightforward and transparent with the prices, the prices are very fair and reasonable. We were able to have a catholic mass for my brother. Everything felt so private and serene. I called Sonia and told her I was interested in Chavez funeral services. She told me that she will call me back confirming our meeting at my house; she had to coordinate with another person in their business. Two weeks went by and she never called or texted as promised. I the called the same business number again. A man (Luis) responded. I explained the situation to him. He promised that he would contact Sonia and let her know; that the they would call me.....almost two more weeks and nothing. I assumed that they may be having some business or pressing issue, so I decided to drive the more than 5 miles to the address listed in their web site, on Clark ave in bellflower. I was in a bind today to find a keepsake to put my father's ashes in to give to my stepmother. I could not find anywhere local to me to where I could purchase something. I happened to call Sonia at Chavez funeral and cremations, and she told me she did not know anywhere local to purchase this item. Almost immediately after I hung up the phone, she called me back and asked if the number I called from was my cell phone. She then sent me a couple of photos of some necklaces to hold my father's ashes. They were beautiful. I asked her where they were located, and she gave me the address. 10 minutes later I arrived, she showed me a few things to choose from, and I found a beautiful heart shaped pendant with a chain. I told her I had no cash with me, but I could pay her with a card. She then told me to not worry about it, and that they had had them a long time, so it was not a problem for her to give them to me. They were an hour late picking up my moms body at 730 in the morning. The guys who picked her up were rough and seemed to struggle to pick up an 80lb little old lady. Cancer had made her lose so much weight and even I could move her around better than they did. It took a long time for my moms cremation to actually happen. 2 weeks and 2 days to be exact and there wasn't much communication until I started asking WTF because i hadn't heard anything and wanted to know when the cremation would happen. It was making me sick to think about her laying in some freezer somewhere. It's funny when I called the second time that they "finally" got the paperwork signed off by the state so they could schedule her cremation. The day we were supposed to pick up her remains they text and ask if we could come an hour later.... just as we were getting ready to leave the house. I said no because me and my siblings had all arranged time off work to pick her up together and settled on 30 minutes later than originally planned. They were still packing up the urns when we got there. I asked multiple times about the death certs and always got the same answer" I'll follow up With the health department and NEVER heard back. She said they would send them to her and I could pick them up, but later I got 3 copies in the mail from the health department. I guess I should have expected all this when she couldn't find any of the paperwork I emailed her and had to resend it all when I was there paying for her cremation. read more

This is an amazing company. I unfortunately lost my dad suddenly so I was trying to make arrangements with nothing pre planned other than the fact I knew my dad wanted to be cremated. UCLA had given us a recommendation but they were giving me misinformation or were very slow to communicate with.. Sonia on the other hand was extremely helpful and empathetic through the entire process and outlined how long each step would take. She was knowledgeable about every aspect from arranging a brief viewing before the cremation, to picking scatter tubes, and how the county processes death certificates. She even told us to contact my dad's primary to get the death certificate faster. Having someone walk through the process was incredibly helpful since I was feeling overwhelmed and Sonia lifted some of that burden. I didn't even have to follow up because she was very quick to provide updates as they came in. Knowing that things were getting handled was such a comfort and a relief that I didn't know I would need. While I was making arrangements with her for my dad, I got a call that my grandma had also just passed. An already difficult situation became even worse. We'd had a bad experience with Forest Lawn - shocker, I know! - and, given the cost of funerals these days, we were not inclined to give them any more money than they were already receiving for the niche we bought from them. We called several funeral homes for price quotes. Not only was Chavez Funeral Home among the best-priced options, it was clear that they were among the better options in service. Sonia and her crew were kind and patient at all times, and they are very text-friendly. This is particularly important for grieving families these days, who may be juggling work and child care responsibilities, and may not always be able to jump on a phone call to make funeral arrangements. A few key points about where Chavez really stood out: - They are a very small, family business. No long hold times, with anonymous call center employees looking to upsell you/your family in an extreme time of weakness (if you want an example of this nonsense, look no further than Forest Lawn, who took a grieving widow and her daughter into a room with a powerpoint presentation, clicked through and at each page, asked them to agree that yes, they wanted that thing--they, nodding in grief through their tears and barely paying attention--until we found ourselves with a $20,000 package for a person who was being cremated!). Instead, you will deal with Sonia herself, or one of a few other people in the family. It leads to consistency in service, among other things--and makes the process way less stressful. - They have access to a lovely historic chapel in Covina. This makes a difference if your family is Catholic and wants a traditional funeral service/mass. Many people choose to have weddings in this chapel as well. No need to organize/find a separate church for your mass. Bonus: Sonia knows many priests, so when members of this VERY Catholic family had a hard time rustling up a priest (some sort of retreat left us high and dry, with most of the priests in the area out of town), she was able to come through with one, without forcing us to find one on our own (many other funeral parlors told us we would have to find our own priest). - They have access to a crematorium and understand this aspect of funeral services. Some of the funeral homes we talked to seemed nice but required hefty outsourcing fees for the cremation part of the package. If you/your relative is being cremated, this allows you to utilize Chavez as a 'one stop shop'. This was an unexpected death, and so most of the family was barely functioning. Sonia handled every detail, and made the widow/daughter feel cared for. If your family is Catholic, Latino, both--or just wants to utilize a small, family-owned business rather than the more corporate funeral planning experience--I especially recommend Sonia & her family. read more
