I was here to say good bye to a friend that I met years ago at a Yelp event, he was always cheerful and positive. California Mortuary is beautiful on the outside as well as the inside, there is a parking in the rear one way in and out, the staff was polite friendly. At the end of the service staff pass out roses to people who wanted them.

No one can prepare for the unexpected loss of a loved one so when it happened to our family we were all in shock. Pushing through the pain we tried our best to get matters in order and wanted the most expedited process. It didn't take us long to find out that the death business is a business and that there are a lot things we weren't prepared for. A burial plot already had been purchased so we were prepared to go with that particular company only to be met with "you need to make an appointment" and that appointment was two days out. It felt as if we were just another number. So we started calling around and came across California Mortuary. I would have to say it was upon the first conversation with the funeral director John Jung that put us right at ease. John was so compassionate and patient as we explained of our fathers unexpected passing. He took the time to listen to us and understood how important it was for us to have the service as soon as possible. Our father passed away on a Saturday and John was able to schedule a service exactly one week later. The mortuary felt peaceful the glass atrium filled with fresh trees felt light and airy. John was very empathetic and compassionate during our first meeting. The whole process took all of 30 minutes. As we were walking away from the mortuary it was then we realized we could all now take a deep breath and prepare to say goodbye to our beloved dad. We sincerely appreciate John for keeping in touch with us throughout the week. The day of the service went beautifully. I would also like to thank Gil Alvarez who did a nice job on making my dad look his best. Thank you to everyone at California Mortuary.

My dad passed away May 21st 2024. John was extremely helpful and made all the arrangements for me to fly my dads remains back to South Korea. This was a very hard time for me and my family and honestly John the funeral director made everything very easy. My dad looked great at the services and everything went smoothly. I highly recommend this funeral home. They worked with our budget and there was no crazy upsell like I remember when my grandpa and grandma died in Michigan 20 plus years ago. Thank you John and your staff for helping me out during a very difficult time.

Wow. I don't even know where to begin I was an emotional wreck, having to endure the loss of my mom. So as I walked into the building, I was immediately greeted with such compassion and respect from John. As I was crying John provided some tissues & bottle water while he was genuinely listening to what I wanted and he gave me some great ideas. While I'm in my grieving phase, I was so OCD bothering him endlessly making sure I tightened any loose ends. He was always responsive with me & provided any other clarification (but of course during regular business hours of operation & not like 2am). He had gone above and beyond to make sure that all the arrangements were done with the utmost dignified and honorable manner as he sees fit & was always accommodating by asking for my input. I can truly say that I had felt such positive energy from John having to make sure that my heart was at ease and I am genuinely pleased & grateful with John and his entire team putting together a well organized & respectable funeral/memorial service for my mom. Lastly, their prices are reasonably fair in today's market.

Glenn's mortuary was referred to us on a list provided by the LA County Coroner's office. I called every one of them. None came even close to the comfort and helping hand I found in Glenn over the phone. I knew right away he was the right choice. Everything was handled over the phone as it was what they call 'a direct cremation' which is a very simple, and inexpensive, way to handle this sensitive matter. He would even be able to arrange special delivery of the cremation remains but we opted to go into town to receive them. Everything can be handled from afar is my point in case you live out of town. He also will perform complete funeral ceremonies tailored to your and your loved one's desires. He has been doing this for decades and still is as caring and understanding a person you would wish for under such sensitive circumstances. Whether having an elaborate funeral with floral arrangements, a beautiful casket or urn, headstone, clergy, speaker, cemetery arrangements, holy cards, announcements, etc.,, Glenn can do everything for you making it easy for you at a very difficult time. Nice to know there are people out there that care enough to take care of your loved one the way you would wish under the circumstances. Thank you, Glenn! Jason, who helped us throughout the process, was incredibly patient, kind, warm, understanding, and accommodating. He made us feel genuinely cared for without ever being pushy or making us feel pressured to add anything to the service. He listened to what our family wanted, respected our wishes, and made an overwhelming process feel so much easier to navigate. The mortuary itself is beautiful and has such an intimate, peaceful atmosphere. One thing I especially appreciated was that when you are holding a service, it truly feels like the space belongs to your family. There aren't other services happening at the same time, so you aren't crossing paths with strangers or other grieving families. Having that privacy made such a difference and allowed us to focus completely on honoring my dad. What meant the most to me was how respectful Jason and the staff were of our family's Chinese-Cambodian Buddhist traditions. They welcomed our monks and accommodated our religious and cultural requests without hesitation. They turned off the illuminated Christian glass during our service so the space could better reflect our family's beliefs and traditions. They also allowed our family to walk through the mortuary with my dad as part of our final procession with him, which was incredibly meaningful to us. They even allowed us to bring in our own joss paper burner for our ceremonial offerings. Because it was still far too hot to safely transport after the ceremony, they graciously kept it there for us until we returned to pick up my dad's ashes. That may seem like a small detail to someone unfamiliar with our traditions, but to our family, their willingness to accommodate something so culturally important meant so much. There are so many decisions to make when you're grieving, and the last thing you need is to feel rushed, pressured, or as though your family's traditions are an inconvenience. We never felt that way here. We felt cared for, understood, and respected. Jason and the team at White Emerson gave our family the space and flexibility to honor my dad in a way that felt true to him, to our family, and to our culture. During such a painful time in our lives, they made everything as easy and seamless as they possibly could. I will always be grateful for the kindness and compassion they showed my dad and our entire family. I would wholeheartedly recommend White Emerson to any family looking for a beautiful, intimate, respectful, and genuinely caring place to honor their loved one.
