While inside at the service desk, Roger was so friendly and courteous as he helped me with fixing the problem. He also gave me more help with locating other items in the store. As I went to the paint department, I also received great customer service in picking the necessary items. Wow! Such attention to a customer and it did not stop there...... the cashier also assisted me in getting a much needed drink I was looking for. Everyone I came in contact that day was so so so courteous and willing to help. This was worth noting. I found all I was looking for and prices were very reasonable. I was in and out for soil... or so I thought. I ended up stumbling across their clearance section, and let me tell you--it's a goldmine. They had lighting and other household gear marked down to 60% off retail. I scored four awesome headlamps for a fraction of the price. It's not something I planned for, but I'm definitely not mad about it. I believe it was Bill or Phil who helped me out--he was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. I asked about grow lights, and not only did he make a solid recommendation, but he also walked me over to the right section. That kind of personal service is rare these days, and it left a great impression. One thing I noticed, though, was that the older staff members were genuinely friendly and helpful. They greeted me, engaged in conversation, and seemed to take pride in being there. In contrast, the younger staff felt a little checked out... not rude, but they were kind of low energy and not particularly invested. This is not a dealbreaker, but it is worth mentioning. The fantastic selection of hidden deals, and some of the best soil prices I've seen in town. It's clear that this Ace cares about its regulars and offers value that goes beyond convenience. Pro tip: Always check the clearance aisle--you will find something you didn't know you needed!

Very disappointing experience with recent policy changes at Home Depot in Vernon Hills…read more I've been a loyal customer and contractor for years, but the new return policies are terrible. They make it extremely difficult to return merchandise that's only slightly past the return date -- even when it's unused and in perfect condition. The staff and store managers seem to have no authority or flexibility to help customers in any way. It's frustrating that Home Depot is becoming so rigid and unwilling to work with loyal customers and contractors. Very poor policy decisions -- disappointing to see such a decline in customer service. Better service from local lumberyard and nearby home stores.

He said I was "faking it because it was hot outside". I don't know what he meant by that remark but the manager was rude, patronizing, did not care about me and made me feel very uncomfortable. The outdoor area is well set up for the season with the the overflow in the parking lot. My only issue was the selection of bamboo stakes was slim. The ones they had were a bit beat up, I bought some anyway and they should be alright but some of the ones left over... not so much. This place has an outdoor self checkout system, which was new to me but easy to use. They thankfully still have a checkout person if you need help or have questions. A bit more expensive than some local competitors but good enough for a quick shop.

This one is a massive location stands, it is a two-story mega store featuring a moving escalator walkway. Most Menards are massive, but this one is larger than most and the two story. The escalator is impressive with a cart-locking mechanism, you walk on with your cart onto a flat, step-less ramp, and the cart wheels automatically lock firmly into the tracks. The store has wide aisles to make navigating easy and less congested. The store is clean, brightly lit, and staff were friendly.

Save big money at Menards!…read more Why did nobody tell me about this Menards that has two floors and you take a walkway escalator up to the second floor (or elevator)? How fun is that? Normally I enjoy going to Menards but this was on a new level (!!). I especially enjoyed the trip to the second floor because just below they have a garden pathway of statuary like Versailles and you can get a sense of the scale of this store. Luckily, a helpful employee directed me to the zip ties. I picked up a standing tower fan, some drain cleaner and just marveled at the pet supplies (an aisle for food, an aisle for treats, an aisle for toys), snacks, candy, more. If I fill out the rebate I should have about $20 coming back to me. Of course I'll be back. Please have someone playing the piano for me.
