After living in a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom for a year with a friend I can confidently say Westerlee is a great place to live for several reasons. First, the apartment was very spacious. I had the master bedroom and there was tons of space (lots unused) despite me having a lot of belongings, the closet was huge! Also, the amenities were an added plus. A nice pool with an easy to work around guest policy was great during the warmer weather months. The gym which was open 24 hours was always super convenient. Our apartment had a vast woods area which our balcony overlooked, it was always nice when friends were over to have the outdoor area for having fun. Lastly, the maintenance staff were always attentive and prompt. Whenever we filled out a maintenance request, the staff were quick to resolve the issue. I gave this property 4 stars because at times it was a bit tough to reach the property managers (at least when calling sometimes it would take some time to receive a callback but I know folks get busy, visiting the office in person often was easy to get in touch with folks) and because the immediate surrounding area wasn't very walkable to get to things to do. Out of the things to do right around the property, there wasn't much besides fast food/casual dining (but that might just be this area of Catonsville for you). Overall, I'd recommend this property to anyone looking for quiet, clean, and affordable living within striking distance of Ellicott City and Baltimore! read more

Oftentimes residents may forget about the office team that assists in coordinating, communicating and directing many of the events that occur on the property. I would like to say my experience with this team has been excellent. I have had extensive communication with LaDonna, the Assistant Property Manager; what I like most is her follow-up and follow-through. She has been open to hearing my honest concerns and immediately assist to resolve whatever the matter; providing dates and times that a particular matter should be resolved. No one would have the patience to read the pages and pages of description I could write about what a piece of sh*t property this is and how inept the property managers and maintenance staff are. NO MATTER HOW NICE THE MODEL LOOKS, do not rent here. I lived in the sister community for 2 years. There was mold behind the walls that never was rectified. The energy bills were astronomical. The staff at the rental office "lost" my automatic draft info for the rent, served me with an eviction notice & I had to take off work to provide my bank statements to prove they had been taking out my rent. To top it all off, it took a year before I got my security deposit back -- and that finally got accomplished when I faxed a letter threatening to go to the Maryland Real Estate Commission. read more

I currently live at the sister apartments, also in Catonsville, and it is the worst. I wish I could give less than 1 star for the terrible quality of these apartments and service of the staff. There is one nice lady who handles the finance at the main office but every other person, including maintenance, smiles and tells lies to you like a weasel. The girl who lived in the apartment above us flooded the bathroom by accident and ruined our bathroom ceiling. When we reported it to maintenance and they did NOTHING! So when she moved out last month the contractors who were renovating her place broke the cold water pipe in the floor upstairs (or whatever lie they told me to explain why our ceiling started dripping water, peeling paint, and exposing mold) we reported it again on 9/17. Once again no response until the ceiling completely caved in on 9/22. They finally decided to come the next day on 9/23 after an irate phone call and sent a contractor (the same ones who worked upstairs) to the remove half the damn ceiling. So now it's 9/25 and the ceiling currently looks like the attached picture. Management told me they can not come back to install drywall because the ceiling needs to dry. The moldy ceiling is currently completely DRY. The contractor turned off the water and removed all the wet parts of the ceiling the last time he was here so what are they talking about? Just tell me the truth that your too lazy to tell a contractor to come out at 3pm on a Friday?!!!! So now we have an exposed moldy ceiling with all types of debris and cob webs falling in our shower. Not to mention I had to clean up behind the contractor and probably will have to again before he comes on Monday. Save yourself the stress, time, and headaches from paying a sh*thole apartment for over $1300. Worst decision of my life. Did I also mention that they had rats? read more

This is an okay place to live. I'm moving out this week after 2 years for job reasons. It's definitely liveable, but the staff are not friendly and maintenance requests are not honored. The walls and ceilings are paper thin. We had people above us and it felt like we lived with them, I could even hear the guy above us when he was peeing! The people below us smoked and we breathed in all of their cigarettes. For us in particular, we lived near soooo many kids who were constantly playing and screaming right outside our door and would even look in our windows. We complained but not much was ever done about it. However, the pool is really nice and almost no one uses it. Parking has never been an issue. But I'm convinced that over $1300 for a 2 bedroom at this place is overpriced. read more

As a rebuttal to the biased 2008 review six years ago, we moved to Westerlee from Virginia in July 2014. During our sojourn, we've had one water leak from the washer and one slow running kitchen drain, which were fixed correctly and promptly during regular business hours after answering service notification. Maintenance staff here are competent and friendly. They also take care to prevent damage to your furniture and floor coverings while working. Property management staff are sincere and responsive to our requests. Our energy bills are consistent with our usage and lifestyle. The bottom line is totally based on whether you choose to be green or wasteful with your utilities. However, we did install energy efficient LED lighting and navy type shower heads at our own cost to limit our energy needs. In summary, we are happy campers. We have no complaints whatsoever to publish about the Westerlee Apartments in Catonsville, MD and would rent here again in a heartbeat. We recommend you check Westerlee out too! read more

They provides prompt service in every possible way. I would say you guys doing great and we enjoyed leaving in Westerlee. if in future, i will get a chance to move to this location, westerlee would be our first choice. This apartment complex is the WORST managed property I have ever lived in. They were constantly losing paperwork and miscommunicating. The maintenance was awful, it was a 50/50 shot if they would fix the problem or show up and leave. One the maintenance men even used my phone number from the request to harass me in my private life. The manager did address that issue. When we moved out the apartment was emasculate, yet they tried to charge us for dog urine. We sent them video and photo showing the perfect condition of the carpet at move out as well as proof of steam cleaning. When we asked for photos from the inspection, they ignored us and instead just sent our account to Collection. When I reached out to them WEEKS later about not getting back to us, they tried to say the email went to spam (which it didn't, and I received ALL their other emails). This is a horribly managed property and they are swindlers. This is a reoccurring theme in the DOZENS of open cases against them at the better business bureau, they aren't even accredited. When I moved from West Ridge Apartments every one said to me..... Don't pay your last months rent because they are not going to give you your deposit back...... I really wanted to leave there on a good note, I had just purchased my first home for me and my kids and I wanted to believe they would do the right thing also. I'm a single mother with 2 teenagers and it's not always easy paying bills and such. I knew the apartments would probably find reason to keep some of the deposit of over $1,300 but after quite some time manager informed me they were only giving me$122. I asked her why and what could possibly allow them to keep all my money. Manager said she would audit my account to find reason and she would get right back to me. I have been sending emails and calling office and she hasn't gotten back to me in over a week. I can not afford to hire a lawyer but I definitely would if I could. Why are these people so money hungry that they should have the right to steal this money, every month there was some charge for a ridiculous thing like extermination (which was never done) or something else added to my rent. My rent was never late and they would track on late fees just to see if you notice them or just pay it. I'm really angry at how this company operates and treats people. I wish I would've moved out with out paying that last months rent. If any one knows a lawyer who would like to take them on let me know please...... read more

I have lived here over 4 years and I love it. When I go into the office Caryl is always there for me. She is so sweet. Every time I come in the office I look forward to seeing her and her smiling face. She truly is the best. The maintenance team works so very hard to make sure we are happy. Staff in the Leasing Office and Maintenance Office are the most unfriendly people I've ever met. They make me feel like they are doing me a favor by letting me rent there. They are always hard to reach by phone. You leave a message and no courtesy call back. Even when you visit the office, they give you the "what the heck" look. Maintenance work needs to be requested repeatedly, and they barge in whenever they like. This place is a pet friendly complex, so there is always dogs barking late into the night, dog droppings are on the sidewalks and grass, and sometimes the apartments smells. The people who supposed to clean the stairs and vacuum the corridor does not take their work seriously. They just go over with the mop once and leave the debris on the carpets. At one time, the garbage dumpsters were left over a month because it was not picked up. My floors creaks, I can't do hot water wash on my laundry, the birds are in the kitchen vent, I have roaches, they took all my led lights and replace them with less efficient bulbs, and never bothered to return my expensive led bulbs. It took them almost three weeks to fix and replace my bathroom sink while I had to live there with the smell. One time they tried to take me to court saying, I had back-rent instead of admitting to their system problems which only took the rent and not the other fees. Over $65 dollars, I got a court appearance notice within a week. No one ever called me from the office to let me know of this problem. They wanted to evict me because I owe them for water and admin fees of $65 for a week. I still live here because of the view from the back of the apartment as I still search for a new home/apartment. Worst of all. There is never an apology given for any inconveniences or mistakes. They need to be sent to the Customer Service course. read more

I have never been so angry with an apartment complex in my life. To start it off, the VERY FIRST WEEK we moved in, the AC was broken and it was the middle of JULY. They first told us it was because the filter was dirty, so 2 days later they replaced the filter, mind you for those two LONG days it was over 90 degrees in the apartment. A day later the AC was broken AGAIN. It took them over two weeks to finally come in a replace the unit. We had to sleep in the living room because it was too hot to sleep in the bedroom! We had to ARUGE with them several times before they ever came out to fix it. The unit they replaced it with is so loud that when it shuts off it makes the dog bark. That should have been our first warning. On top of minor details we have had to call them to fix (including a hole THEY left in the bathroom door) our shower started to leak. Each time we called them, they came no sooner than two days after the call to "patch up the leak." It never worked, their idea of fixing the problem was to take some drywall and paint and fill up the leaky holes that were created at the top of the ceiling from the water pouring out of the upstairs neighbors pipes. Finally (about a month after our first call) they came to fix the pipes, removed the wall, patched up and repainted. We were SO WRONG to believe that was going to be the end of it, its still leaking, we have called several times and no one has done anything. There are holes in our ceiling above the shower, its dangerous and unsanitary. The people upstairs have packed a family of 6 into a 2 bedroom apartment. They argue, play loud music, and it sounds like the wrestle elephants in their free time. They are constantly having parties and yell all through the hallways. They stomp around so much that pictures have fallen and the TV shakes. I can no longer do any of my work at home, I am forced to leave to find peace and quiet in order to be productive what so ever. They also take their trash and old food and toss it off the balcony into the bushes in front of our doors. It's disgusting; we are constantly chasing away stray cats from the rotting food. We have asked them to keep it down and we have told management. No one cares. Not to mention the neighborhood behind us has dogs that bark from the early morning hours until later in the day. I am assuming when the family is home they just let the dogs outside to sit all day no matter the weather conditions. The dogs have learned to jump their fence now and they get loose, we have a small dog and we will not risk taking her out with dogs we don't know running lose. We have attempted to contact the property manager in particularly about the constant leak in our shower, in addition to our other issues, and they have told us they would call back, but never do. I wish we could afford to break our lease early and move out, we have a few months left and we cannot WAIT to be done with this apartment. This place is not worth what you pay for it, it's not even worth half. ... and if you enjoy stepping in dog poop because of your inconsiderate neighbors, by all means, move in. read more

I lived at Westerlee for 19 years and I must say I spent my best years there. Office staff has always been courteous and pleasant. I never had issues with maintenance. While I was there they did some recent upgrades which made all the more convenient for me (adding washer/dryer, microwave, & backsplash). After talking with management for 2+ weeks about getting everything in order to move in, the day I was supposed to sign my lease they gave the unit I reserved to somebody else and expected me to accept another unit that wasn't the same. DO NOT trust Westerlee "NO MATTER HOW NICE THE MODEL LOOKS" We lived here for a year and encountered nothing but problems. First the unit was the wrong one than what we agreed to. They did not provide a walk through, they give you the keys and send you on your way. Once you walk in and start living, things begin to fall apart. The unit was not properly prepped in order for us to move in, but they let us move in anyway and then said they would continue the repairs while we were living there and would have to sign consent forms saying they wouldn't be responsible for anything happening to our unborn child if the chemicals from all the repairs affected us somehow. The wires and furnace unit in the boiler room were taped with duct tape (which is illegal). Holes in the walls were covered by appliances. The unit above mine caught fire. The floors are thin, you here everything. The ELECTRIC BILL WAS HALF of my rent. It takes maintenance a day to come by and even then they can't fix it because they don't have what they need. Plus when the A/C stop working on one of the hottest days in the summer, they will not make it a priority to come fix even when you have a 6 month old baby within the home. You will not get your security deposit back even though the manager says your apartment was flawless. SO TRUST ME Diana I will take this to the Maryland Real Estate Commission. the only reason I'm giving a 3/5 is because of the convenience of location. otherwise, i have been living here for a month, and after signing my lease, any issues or problems i've had, takes a while to get a response. the leasing office is nice until you're signed onto the lease. it is pricey and a bit of a hassle, so if you don't have time, please don't bother. after signing our lease and picking up our keys and doing the walk through with the assistant manager, there were some concerns with the apartment. she took note of the issues and said that maintenance would fix the issue. luckily we weren't moving in that same day that there was room and time to fix the issues, although it took over a week to fix the issue. anytime we call the leasing office, no one ever seems to be available to pick up the phone. they have a nice and big pool so i decided to bring my family and buy some guest passes. after paying $5/guest, my brother in law had to clean the dirty pool while the 2 lifeguards sat there and watched, no wonder we were the only people swimming there. oh well, i guess we don't use the pool that much anyways, and it is nice that it's included with the rent along with access to the gym. only complaint is, they do say that rent will be a certain price and that you are responsible for utilities (which is fine and expected) however, they don't tell you how much your utilities are, they say that it "varies" per apartment. when in reality, the only utility bill that varies is water, the rest are given a base fee, some of which are too expensive in my opinion, like sewer, i feel like we should be told "hey sewer by itself will be $50 monthly on top of your bills and rent" but oh well. i read this in a review and thought, how bad can it be? well i guess if you really need it you have no choice. like i said, this community is ok, catonsville is very limited in apartments, and the location is great and convenient. but otherwise i'm trying to just overlook the pool status, that if you get in it's actually pretty gross, and that if you want anything from the leasing office you might as well just drive over instead of wasting your time calling. not too bad of a living place if you learn to not stress over those things that at this point i think is stupid to keep asking about already. update: the comment on my review..DID NOTHING. i emailed over a week ago and the phone number is just the leasing office (who rarely pick up, unless you want to sign a lease). at this point, "addressing" the issues or concerns in my opinion is pointless already. update 2: they called me and addressed the issues or problems. which i appreciate but feel i shouldn't have to leave a review for. overall they did their best to accommodate. i just wish they would take care and address the community issue that our upstairs neighbors stomps all hours of the night and throw cigarette butts all over our yard area but maintenance does their best to clean it about 2 weeks later lol which is better than nothing and a step up to our problems before read more
