While I respect a provider's clinical autonomy, I believe it is the office's responsibility to communicate clearly when services may not be covered so that patients can make informed financial decisions. ​Because of this lack of transparency, I was faced with unexpected out-of-pocket expenses despite having active insurance. I value clear communication and professional billing practices, both of which were missing during my visit. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously to improve their patient coordination in the future. I will not be returning after almost 4 years of attending this dentistry practice.

Approximately five minutes before I arrived, I received a phone call informing me that Dr. Joshua George would not be able to see me because I needed additional dental work before the crowns could be completed. This was confusing because, during my previous appointment, I understood that no additional treatment was needed before moving forward with the crowns. When I arrived, I asked both the front desk staff and Dr. Joshua George why I had not been informed sooner if my treatment plan had changed. I also asked why I was only being notified minutes before my appointment. I was seeking an explanation because the information I received today was inconsistent with what I had previously been told. Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, Dr. Joshua George began speaking over me and raising his voice while I was trying to understand the situation. As I continued asking questions, he stood over me, continued yelling, and told me that I needed to leave immediately or I would be considered trespassing. I have video footage showing part of this interaction, including him leaving the area and returning to continue speaking to me. During the incident, a member of the front desk staff remained with me, attempted to help me, and reassured me that I was not wrong for asking questions about my treatment. I appreciated her professionalism during a very uncomfortable situation. As a patient, I believe I had the right to ask for clarification about changes to my treatment plan without being yelled at or threatened with trespassing. The interaction left me feeling intimidated, uncomfortable, and unsafe. Because of this experience, I informed the office that I no longer wished to receive treatment at that location.

When I came in, I scheduled during my lunch hour, and it was less than 5 minutes from the office. I loved that I got a notification reminder week of and hour before, as sometimes I tend to lose track of time. I entered into a bright lobby and was greeted promptly (by name!!!) and was checked in. The wait time wasn't long, just a couple of minutes and the dental assistant guided me back to the room. Walking through the halls, have such great lighting, great for a photo!! lol, but entered in the room, chair was super comfy and they have a tv on the chair so you are distracted for whatever dental cause brought you in! Dr. McRay came in after getting all checked in and asked me about my sleep study and helped review over all the information in the results and explained in great detail what he was able to offer and provide me and how he is different from other devices that are used out in the industry. I was really happy with how knowledgeable he was, as well as the staff, and making me feel super comfortable with my choice and confident in moving forward. He explained all the costs upfront and what all the costs entailed, which I left feeling even more confident that I'd made the right choice. I left and took some time to think it all through and before I knew it, I was scheduling my follow up to get fitted for my mouth guard. The cool thing about their process includes some breathing tests so that they know how to make adjustments to the mouth guard and make it truly fitted for you. They sent everything off and received back in two weeks. Night one, I noticed such a huge difference in how I slept and woke up feeling so rested and less groggy. It's amazing what one thing could do to change your entire sleep cycle. It's been a few weeks now, and still loving it. I had a follow up with Dr. McRay and he is just a dream and so is the team! This father-daughters team also operates as Southwest Dental Implant Center. I had no clue what was an implants, until I needed one. My cracked tooth gave up a big chunk in the summer. The only way to save it was to extract it and replace it with an implant. It was my first time dealing with Dr. Frank Sung and I was ready to change dentist. He quoted me a price so shocking and made him sounded like a used-car salesman. "You can get a loan" and "you need to pay the full price up front," he said. I thought, yeah right, I could buy a brand new Kia Rio with 3 implants. Not sure what the use is by having insurance. I was shopping for a dentist without using insurance. Dr. Jasmine Sung saved me from leaving. After a bite wing crown fell out in the fall, she explained the pros and cons on bridge, implant and no tooth. She analyzed the implant method would be most effective. So, I've decided to have it done next year after she comes back from her maternity leave.

One thing they don't tell you about orthodontics is that your face shape changes! My face got more narrow and my jaw became a little smaller. I was very pleased seeing the before and after. I recommend Invisalign even if your teeth appear straight because bite changes will result in structural face changes as well! The office is well staffed, emails are replied to quickly, and Dr. Tabakman is very thorough and comes up with a good plan. He will tell you how much time you need and as with all Invisalign providers, there are always refinements. This is not a negative to the office, but it is the drawback to using Invisalign since the trays are predicted 24 months in advance. Your teeth are stronger than the plastic trays so don't expect it to perfectly match to the forecast or what the trays look like! Houston Orthodontic Specialists has good discounts depending on the time of the year. In 2021, I paid 4.5k for 24 months of Invisalign (refiners extended it by 6 months, with no charge). It came with a retainer included in the package.
