The great thing about this location, is that they are slowly making upgrades. But it's still nothing to write home about. It's very small and the weight room gets way too crowded, and on top of that the people stay on the machines while being on their phones instead of getting off and letting other people use the machines. It's annoying, so I now just use the treadmills. They have Clorox wipes scattered around which is nice to be able to wipe down the machines. I really wouldn't go here if I had another closer option, but it's all we got in the neighborhood.

I'd love to give this gym a better rating, but I think it's despicable to keep MSNBC and CNN propaganda running on all TVs, they used to be fair and have a variety, now someone has started this dirty trick. I hope management will take action and keep the YMCA a Christian and positive environment. This gym has a lot of potential, nice pool, nice staff. The only downside are the outdated showers and locker rooms.

If you're looking for a "community" gym, don't be fooled. My dad was not only a member for over 20 years but volunteered thousands of hours at the West Valley YMCA. He was beloved by many members and staff associates. He suddenly stopped coming because of a fall and passed away over the holidays. When we asked if we could please put up a small poster announcing what happened to him and his eventual passing, we were told "no"; that "New construction and the front desk barely has anywhere to sit." SHAME ON YOU, West Valley YMCA.

Shelly Skaro made the finals very unfair. She listened to a coach and didn't think of the kids.

If you are tying to enroll your kids into the YMCA I suggest you don't. You will just go into anger mode when your child's team is left with no soccer coach. And when you are half way into the season you get a coach and make it to finals and when the brackets are set a coach from the same league goes to the director Shelly Skaro and changes the bracket to make sure he gets his team up by cheating. Parents who want to reach there kids what is playing soccer and learning how to lose the fair way I suggest you don't register your kids at the YMCA. Your kids will only have the experience that cheating in life is ok. I am really disappointed after four years of being a YMCA member I can say the Spring of 2015 has been by far the WORST season ever. And from what it looks like it's just going to get worst by having someone that is not even involve in sports put in there point of view!

Ask the Community - West Valley Family YMCA

Is there a sauna or steam room?

Hello Samuel, Thank you for taking time to reach out. West Valley YMCA does not have a steam room or sauna.

You guys put in a squat rack?

Hello, Joey! Yes, we also added a new squat rack and some new leg machines.

Is child activity center offered during open hours or specific times?

yes, due to the pandemic, the hours have changed and are the following; Monday - Thursday, 5 pm - 8 pm, and reservations must be made through the mobile app.

What does it cost if you just need somewhere you can take a shower?

You have to pay to enter at all so $45 a month and $30 sign up that is sometimes free. A family plan is about $70 I think so that may help to split with others.

At the 1st official lesson, she had him jumping in the pool and flipping over to his back to float COMPLETLEY UNASSISTED! I seriously can't believe how fast she taught him! In full disclosure, in Summer 2023, we enrolled him in a water wings class for 2 months. In Summer 2024, we signed him up with a different 1 on 1 private instructor for a few months. So, my son had familiarity with swim lessons, but he had never been able to float or do much of anything on his own in the water. I mean, he is still working on blowing water bubbles becuase he hates putting his face in the water. So, to see Allyson *magically* had him doing all this with 2 lessons... I mean, I have no words to express my appreciation! She knows what she is doing! She is teaching life saving skills first! And she has a totally laid back and straight forward, no nonsense demeanor that I just respect so much! After the trial lesson, I bought a 10 lesson package and I'm looking forward to all that she is going to teach my son this summer!! Thank you, Allyson!!

From the very first trial lesson, it was clear how skilled and patient she is. Our son loves being in the water but was uncomfortable floating on his back and even cried during that first session. By the second lesson, he was confidently floating on his back--something we honestly didn't expect so quickly. We've been working with Allyson for nearly six months now, and the progress has been incredible. She has a calm, encouraging approach that builds trust and confidence, and we would highly recommend her to any parent looking for an exceptional swim instructor.

My son had almost no experience in a pool before we started classes. He can also be extremely cautious and careful and usually takes longer than his peers to feel comfortable with a new situation. And then to make matters even worse, we tried another teacher right before Andy, who kept forcing my son's head underwater and ignoring his pleas for her to stop. So going into these classes my son was pretty on edge and would cry at almost every class for the first few weeks. But Andy was VERY patience with my son. Andy created the perfect balance of knowing when to play games and have fun and when to push my son to learn a new skill! Because of that balance, my son was able to learn a bunch of water skills, including jumping into the water and swimming back to the edge (helping him to be much more water safe), plus he now loves the water and loves swimming. He now wants his birthday party to be a pool party and he wants to be a Life Guard Scientist when he grows up. My son now has confidence in the pool and he loves it! And I feel much better about his safety at the pool because of the new skills he has learned!

He is the most exceptional swim instructor I've ever encountered and we had several before we decided to exclusively have our son swim with him. He is so patient, and does an exceptional job at balancing silliness to bond with the children and discipline to motivate the little swimmers to want to be better and level up to make him proud. My son has been coming to water wings since 9mo old but had to stop for a year due to ear infections. When he returned he was terrified to submerge his head under water and it was just by random chance that he was in a group class with Ryan! He quickly took to Ryan and would scream bloody murder if he didn't swim with his favorite instructor, so we opted for private lessons! It was at that point that everything took a huge turn! We had originally signed Jaxon up to be "water safe" but he was so motivated and built such an amazing bond with Ryan that he has stayed with him for now more than a year in a 1:1 setting and now wants to competitively swim. HE IS now the best swimmer in the house, and is far beyond his peers AND his older friends who are 7+. At THREE YEARS OLD our son has almost perfected the breaststroke, freestyle, 6 kick switches, dominates backstroke, is doing front flips diving into the water, tumble turn flips off the wall, can swim underwater, deep dive for objects, can hold his breath for more than 30 seconds and so much more! NOBODY has ever seen anything like this. Ryan is truly one of a kind and we will forever be grateful for all that he's done for Jaxon! The sky is the limit with such a brilliant instructor by his side! And Jaxon absolutely loves him and even misses him when he's not around lol Thank you Ryan, we adore you and appreciate your care and expertise!

She was still in the class with 4 year olds and is almost 6. Multiple kids she started with were moved up in an appropriate timeline but not her. Every time we spoke to them about it they said she was almost ready but never took any action. As someone else with a similar review mentioned, the beginners groups class teachers are useless and treat it as playtime instead of actually teaching my child how to properly swim. Or care enough to make sure she's moving up to a level where she can actually be challenged to grow instead of splash around with toddlers. We will never attend classes here again. We removed her and are going elsewhere.
