Love that this location is connected to Smithtown Seafood and we can patronize two local businesses at the same time! It's a bit noisy in here, but the place was quite full on a Friday evening. We snagged a table and I ordered a pint of West Sixth regular cider at the bar. The bartender was friendly and the cider was cold, crisp and refreshing. We then ordered food from Smithtown Seafood next door using the QR code menu on our table. It was delivered to our table and we enjoyed our meal. It can be hit or miss for me on beers here (can we PLEASE let the IPA thing go!?!!?) but there are great non-IPA options every time I have been. This includes a few absolutely yummy ciders. but you can't argue with the service and what this place brings to the community. I just had my first experience in the private bourbon room at West Sixth! What a cool event space and a great way to enjoy this unique venue with a group. They allowed outside food to be brought in and the private bar was awesome and stocked with bourbon as well as beer and wine. We frequent the brewery because it's a great community space and so dog friendly - but it's good to know that there is a cool place for special events here as well! read more

We frequent all West Sixth locations but this was our first visit to the original location. Smithtown food available adjacent for good eats. A great place with good vibes. Recommendations are West Coal Lager, All Tricks No Treats (seasonal), Black IPA if you like IPA, standard "go to" is Octoberfest, Cerveza, and Sixer. Wonderful brewery with a very diverse offering of brews, ciders and even a cocktail! We ended up at West Sixth sort of by accident, so glad we did! Emily was great, super friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Hubby and I each did a self pick tasting so we could try all the different categories! The 1906 Lager was both of our favorites so a six pack had to come home with us! The one I'd totally have again if I was sitting at the bar right now would be the Oyster one! Can't remember the whole name of it, I think it had "cowboy" in the name, but I do remember Oyster! It came with hot sauce!! I lived in Lexington when this place opened. They were the first true craft brewery. (I never counted Alltech). I was an instant fan. But it's sad to see that they haven't evolved or gotten better, just coasted or even gotten worse. I recently had a flight of all the IPAs and one sour. There wasn't a single one that I liked. The dry hopped West Sixth IPA was exciting as an idea, because I've always felt like there was no aroma to this flagship beer. But there was STILL no aroma to this "dry hopped" beer! WTF? They have no idea how to make sours. The guava sour was disgusting. Basically, they are using the bare minimum ingredients. They're going cheap. After getting out of Lexington and experiencing some truly stellar beer, it's sad that Lexington cannot do better. read more

I had shoulder surgery 2 weeks ago which is one of the most painful recovery of ortho surgeries. But I was tired of being stuck at home. It was a beautiful day so talked my hubby to day trip to Lexington. Not usually a beer fan but thought it would make me feel better. Yep .. had a beer and a flight .. not driving so it's all good. My friend and I are visiting Lexington for the week and this was our first stop before our dinner reservation. We came on a rainy Monday afternoon and there were a good amount of folks there. I'm more of a cocktail person, but I like a good beer every now and again. This place had several! I made my own flight of 5 beers including Magic Beans Coffee Stout, Rosemont Wit, Strawberry Kolsch, Ginger Lemon Elixir and the West Sixth IPA. I'm not a huge IPA person, so that was my least favorite, but it was still a good beer. My favorite, by far, was definitely the Rosemont. It was light and a bit citrusy. The Strawberry Kolsch was next - light strawberry flavor. The coffee stout was rich without being bitter. I ordered some shrimp from the restaurant next door and had it delivered to me at the bar. Crispy and delicious! The only "negative" thing I can say about this place is that the one woman on staff had to manage the whole bar for most of the time we were there, which looked hard. The bar is really big and there were two rooms of folks all wanting to order from her. She was very professional and worked fast. I just felt bad for her. Definitely glad that my friend and I chose this place to come to for an afternoon flight. I would definitely recommend it! (Bonus is that they had the Eurocup on. Woohoo!) read more

We went to West Sixth Brewing on Friday night and had an awesome time. We're from out of town and can see why it is a Lexington staple. The vibes are really cool and the people are super nice. Bartenders helped with making beer selections. The parking wasn't too bad despite it being pretty busy. We were able to find a table for 4. Went here during lunch time, and it was pretty crowded, but there was plenty of parking. I wanted to try the magic beans coffee stout and the nice bartender gave me a sample. It was fantastic and was perfect for a Saturday afternoon treat! Chocolate character with roasted coffee beans! My husband got the cocoa Porter, which is good too. A lot of customers were ordering food from the restaurant next door, but we didn't have a lot of time so just had our beers and got a six pack to go. The food did look good though. I swear I thought I wrote a review before for West Sixth. I went there this past week and I guess it was the 3rd of 4th time. I try to stop there every time I have an overnight stay in Lexington. When I first started drinking IPA it was always West Sixth's. There are so many different craft breweries now so I do switch it up, but I owe my love of IPA and extra lbs to West Sixth. The brewery itself is large. I've never participated in any fun or tours there. I just sit at the bar and drink which is plenty for me. I did notice two visits ago that they no longer sell growlers, but you can bring one to fill if you like. They do sell crowlers and bottles though. read more

The Barrel Room is an awesome rental space! I used it in June 2022 for a welcome reception for out-of-town guests the night before my wedding. The rental coordinator and bartender were both awesome to work with and everyone had a good time. The alcohol variety was great for our group and all the tables were set up ahead of time. They kept me posted on reaching our drink minimum so we could make sure we got our money's worth W6 is one of my favorite Lexington spots from my time at Transy, so it was a perfect location for us to revisit! read more

Nice location next to a park! There are lots of seats, inside and outside. Went here on a random Tuesday night and discovered the walk/run club that meets on Tuesday. After 5 visits you get a free shirt. I really like their Cocoa Porter beer. It is similar to a stout but not as heavy. I have also their strawberry kolsch. It is not too sweet but has a nice light flavor. Surprisingly, they have a Sangria slush that is really good! If you go order from Smithtown Seafood! They have a kitchen in the brewery. The Singapore shrimp wrap ($12.99) was very good and came with fries. I choose fee blackened shrimp. They were cooked perfectly! I also tried out the hush puppies ($2.99 for 4) and ate more then I wanted because they were yummy! read more

Coming from L/ville for the evening and I really wanted to stop by to visit the place after being a fan of their beer for quite some time. The place didn't disappoint. We sat at the bar on a Friday night and the bartenders were so inviting. I started out with the Hop Static IPA ($5.50) and it was right down my alley. I've been to W6 many times but just haven't reviewed them. My experience is pretty much always the same...great! The bartenders always friendly and, even though it can get very busy, never rush you into a choice or shy away from a friendly conversation. They are one of the only breweries in town that serve only their own beer. That is never a problem because there is frequently something new to try or an old favorite. They have the best barrel program in town so if you are into sours or other barreled beers you are in luck! Their special events are always well organized and fun. If you have time and they have tours scheduled, jump in on one. It is interesting to hear about the brewery and all the cool stuff that goes on in the breadbox! read more

One of Lexington's first craft breweries and my personal favorite! West 6th is located at the end of Jefferson St. at 6th St., an area that has seen a tremendous revival in recent years and is a must visit area for locals and visitors alike! Located in The Bread Box, a former Rainbo Bakery, that dates back to the late 1800's. This building has brought together not only an award winning brewery, but Smithtown Seafood, Food Chain (an aquaponic farm supplying Smithtown with seafood and greens) an art gallery, and The Broke Spoke bike shop, are just some of the tenants in this fabulous historic redevelopment. Tours are available for the brewery and Food Chain if you want a great education on brewing and a sustainable method of farming. Ahh, now to the beer! West 6th brews some of Kentucky's best beers including many IPA's (try the flagship IPA and the Hopstatic), a great amber, and, the Pennyrile Pale ale are my favorites. You a stout person or just looking for a kick in the ass? Try the Snakes series of stouts, just make sure your DD is lined up or you have enough battery life to summon Uber upon your departure. Also there a lots of seasonals and collaborations to try depending on when you visit. Got that friend tagging along that will bitch about the lack of Mich Ultra? Order them a Cerveza or a glass of wine. Not only are the beers great, so is the staff. Many of the bartenders and other staff has been around for years, which is impressive in the service industry! If you are a novice beer drinker or looking for that beer that suits your palate, just ask the knowledgeable folks and they will steer you in the right direction! Samples are also available. Need some food to soak up the beer? Order from the adjoining Smithtown Seafood (owned by local celebrity chef Ouita Michel) you will find great seafood, sandwiches, and salads that will fill up that beer belly so you can order more beer! Check them out! You can also find West 6th in Louisville in the NULU area as well as the West 6th Farm in Frankfort. I've been sitting on a review draft of West Sixth since the first time I visited. Since I visited over the weekend, I'll type up a review of both visits. First: A solid 3 stars. The first visit didn't impress me as much as I thought it would. I was curious about what all the hype was about. My first visit was in the middle of the day. It was busy and the windows made it bright. I was happy that flights were available even with it being busy. One of my favorites from the flight was the chili porter they had at the time. It was experimental but it was delicious! It's one of the only spicy beers I've had that keeps getting hotter as you drink it. It's not a burn you alive hot... it's just enough to satisfy and make you want more. One of the employees I dealt with on that first visit was rude. My gf said she was fine to her but every time I was around the bar, she acted like she was annoyed to be asking people if they needed anything. It was weird(and she wasn't there on my last visit so who knows if she even still works there). There was another issue on that first visit with being charged for an extra beer which I assume was the rude employee's fault. Luckily the dude that closed my tab was more than helpful. He did the refund and gave me his email if it didn't refund correctly. Kudos for customer service. Second visit: 5 stars! The second visit blew me away. I was by myself at the bar. I had general beer talk with two of the bartenders and both of them were nicer than ever. It was much busier this time around but not so crowded that it was a headache. I was in around 8 PM on a Saturday. I had one of their new beers called Berried in the Bluegrass. As soon as I ordered it, the bartender immediately told me that it's delicious. I think it might be one of the best fruit beers I've had in KY. It's definitely one of the better wine barrel-aged beers I've had in KY. I ended up buying a crowler of it because I loved it so much. I hope it receives a positive response and they start bottling it. I had my 2nd beer, picked up a bottle of something, paid and went on my way. This was on a night where UK football had just lost to Georgia so I half expected a bunch of depressed college kids to be scattered throughout the bar. Surprisingly there were more people making fun of UK like they almost expected to lose. The 2nd visit made me a fan. Anytime I'm in Lexington, there's no way I'm not stopping by West Sixth. Side notes: -- I love the taproom. It's spacious. -- They have a private room in the back. (I think it can be rented). -- I love where they have the merchandise and to-go beer. It's out in the open but it's also out of the way. -- The windows that surround the taproom are also nice. You can see everything as far as the neighborhood traffic. During the daytime, it allows a ton of natural light to flood in. That's great for the mood. -- It seems they've started a series of beers called the Six-Fold Series. I was digging the bottles. The art was simple, professional, and inviting. From the Six-Fold bottles I saw, most of them were sours and experimental. I wanted to buy them all. There are quite a few breweries in Lexington with only a couple that I feel are must-visits. This is one of them. read more
