We stopped here as part of the craft trail and had such a nice time :) I liked the traditional and rustic feel of the place. Our tour guide, Lindsay, was so fun to talk to. We were the only ones, so it was easy to talk and ask questions. We tried 4 of the spirits/ bourbons and were impressed with the quality and flavor variations. Waited and waited and waited for "her" and where ever she was, was not promoting the product or selling the $6 tastings we asked for. We all just waited, waited some more and after 25 minutes in uncomfortable chairs I finally yelled back into the work area to at least get our Field Guide stamped so we could escape with no tastings or bottles. We have been to some cool small distilleries and this one has potential, maybe if "she" was there to help us. We tend to over purchase and today we have more bourbon funds for somewhere else. read more

This distillery is a gem in the rough! A beautiful old building that has been repurposed in amazing ways. Tyler the distiller is just the coolest guy and has so many cool stories and interesting information! All of the items we got to taste were delightful and delicious. One of the better tours we have had and we liked all of their spirits...rum, gin, whiskey and the bourbon. Tour guide was very personable as well as the three cats. Definitely a craft distiller with 3-5 people doing it all. Tasting was great and even gave a taste of a couple extras. More intimate tour than many others. My buddies and I come to Kentucky every fall for the trail, and we look for something new every year. The distiller for a day was something that really caught our eye. My daughter or me a tour for Christmas present. Never new it was there. It's basically a mom & pop operation. Tour just takes a few min, It was nice. The tasting is well worth it. Everything at they brewed is very good. Local coffee shop down the street roast coffee beans for them & They put then in used bourbon barrels. We bought some to try at home. They use small 7 gallon barrels, So they age there bourbon faster than big distillery's. I did their "Day as a Distiller" tour yesterday. Highly recommended. I'd done two prior bourbon tours which was good preparation for this 4-5 hour experience, as was home brewing beer, to understand the process. I met the owner, Jeremy, and worked with Tyler in the distillery. I gather I was fortunate that day as I was able to participate in almost every process: making the mash, piping it down to the fermenters and pitching the yeast, watching them measure the final proof of a fresh batch, and sampling the aging whiskey. (That happened first thing, 10:30 am, so I suggest a hearty breakfast to buffer the alcohol!). I spent the most time labeling bottles and putting them in the pallet. I labeled well over 100 on the machine. There were a lot of trips up & down stairs between mashing and fermenters. I poured a partial bag of malted wheat but Tyler spared me the 50 lbs bags. As the mash bins emptied I helped stir them with a paddle to keep the grain suspended -- but the hose still clogged twice. You will make a productive contribution to the effort. It wasn't physically demanding even considering I'll turn 69 next week. Didn't get dirty, just some wheat dust that brushed off. I'd lucked into cool weather otherwise it might have been unpleasantly warm around those 180F mash bins. I was able to taste from the mash, the fermenter, from the still, barrels aged only 3&4 months, and fully aged. The mash was sweet, fermenter a bit sour (of course), the freshly distilled "white" malted wheat whiskey had a surprising amount of flavor having aged maybe 10 minutes in stainless steel, with the final aged product excellent. Definitely among the best I've tried: as points of reference, I've been of legal age for 50 years; favorites include High West, Old Granddad (my "every day" bourbon), Bulliet, Noah's Mill, and for Scotch, The Macallan. I lean heavily towards rye and high rye mash billed bourbons. Since moving to Kentucky last year, I'm trying as many as possible starting with the most local to Lexington. Of their two cats, Rye was friendly while Barley kept his distance. Corn had the habit of jumping on guests' heads so is now WFH. Lunch is on your own. Lil's Cafe is walking distance and good; wish I'd seen the tomato pie and assorted quiche on my way in! The complete product tasting is at the end. They have a humidor, so a cigar would nicely occupy the time metabolizing the alcohol. read more

My Frenchman and I live in San Francisco. We visited Kentucky and booked a tour at Hartfield & Co for Saturday October 9, 2021 directly on their website. We drove 45 mins to this distillery in Paris, KY only to discover that the company was closed for the weekend. They had clearly forgotten to update their hours on their website and turn off their bookings for this weekend. We even received an email reminder the day before regarding our upcoming "visit". How extraordinarily unprofessional. A complete waste of our time on a Saturday afternoon. Would recommend that you go elsewhere. read more

My husband and I visited for a tour we purchased on Groupon and had a fabulous time. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, and the distillery has a great vibe. There's a nice bar in the back where you can do a tasting and our tour guide was nice enough to show off some of their experimental bourbons and rums. We've done several craft distilleries and this was a top one for sure. Also, Paris is very cute, so take some time to shop or grab coffee in town too! read more

This place was an unexpected surprise. While making the drive to KY from NC I decided to google which distilleries were nearby and Hartfield showed up. We took a small detour and found ourselves outside the cute little shop. My husband is big into bourbon so after agreeing to drive the rest of the trip so he could sample, we ventured in and he did some tasting. In addition to the bourbon offerings they also had rum, tequila and some other spirits (just in case fellow non-bourbon drinkers are reading!) and they were more than willing to let us sample all! We grabbed a bottle of bourbon and some coffee beans and were back on the road. This place was a perfect stop for us and they had just enough room for my kids to burn off a little energy (with no judgement) before we powered through the rest of our trip! Hartfield is a great distillery where you can have a realistic experience on the bourbon trail. We thought about booking one of the huge places, but am so glad we choose the more intimate distillery, Hatfield. Yes, it is a small property, but offers info and experience with every phase of the making of bourbon. We saw everything up close, versus standing in a group and listening/watching. A favorite part was when they opened the still and the entire building filled with a delicious fragrance. Hartfield was a great experience of a small, family owned distillery. Tasting at the end was very enjoyable. Guide Lindsay was very personable and knowledgeable. Hartfield is in Paris, KY, and could easily be combined with tour of a local horse farm such as Claiborne Farms and supper at Windy Corner Market for a day full of wonderful experiences. read more

We have taken tours at the big distillery's but this place is different. The operation is small but the tour was good. Bourbon was good and we left with a few bottles. My friend who lives in Paris, KY kept telling me about the first bourbon distillery in Bourbon County since Prohibition. Incessantly. I get it. Bourbon-- blah blah blah. Everybody is trying to do a little something-something with Bourbon. I live in Louisville where it's constantly in your face, and it can get a little inundating. So while I was visiting my Parisian (lol) friend, I obliged to his hype. Thank goodness I did because it restored my faith in small-batch. Andrew himself and the distillery he has created is amazing. Good conversations, humble guy, great Bourbon. I'm a big fan. We didn't leave Paris without buying a bottle of his bourbon whiskey. Overall: Whether you're into bourbon or not, this place is worth a visit. Hartfield & Co. is a cute and interesting distillery with a laid-back attitude and friendly owners. I really hope these guys do well with their business. The distillery: It's all contained in that one small building. They're unique from the others in that they age in smaller barrels that require less time. The owner was more than patient talking with us for a good while about the "hows" and "whys" of whiskey making and how this company came to be. Loved it. We didn't actually go on a formal tour, just popped in and had a quick walk around the lower floor. The attached bar area is open in the evenings and looks like a cross between a bar, a community center, and neighborhood hangout. Wish we could've stuck around until evening to throw some darts and have a drink. The booze: They have more than bourbon. On our visit there was a classic bourbon, a lighter "American" whiskey, a white whiskey ("white dog"), two types of gin, an apple pie rum, and an agave liquor (aka. tequila). We got to try whatever of the lot we wanted, and no tasting fee. The bourbon was pretty good, and I really liked their herb-infused gin. A number of others bought their apple pie rum. All the prices were really reasonable, especially for a small boutique distillery. Unique find: They will do custom made small barrels of whiskey for your wedding or other event. You work with them on the mash components, takes 4-6 months in the barrels, and they bottle it with custom labels. Overall sounded like it would be in the $80-90/bottle range at the end of the day. My wife and I stopped into Hartfield & Company while completing the craft bourbon trail and I'm sure happy this spot was on the list. After being to over 15 distilleries those on the regular bourbon trail and craft bourbon trail this was by far one of my favorite stops and I didn't even take a tour. The place is definitely what I imagine when I hear craft bourbon distillery and the owner of the distillery even provided a quick behind the scenes look into the facility. However, we can't give a review without talking about the bourbon and this place definitely knows how to put out a good product, and I look forward to seeing what they keep producing in the future. If your in Bourbon County this is a must stop for any true bourbon fan. read more
