And the setting is cosy and welcoming. What more could you want? We came with our puppy on a sunny September afternoon so sat outside, which was easily accommodated by the waiter. I had the steak, mushroom and red wine pot pie with buttered vegetables and rustic mash. Whilst the husband had the local Bridge Road brewery's beer battered fish and chips and salad. So yummy! We then shared a locally grown apple & berry crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert. It was divine!! Our waiter was so friendly and after chatting about our little furry friend a couple of times, came back bearing a doggy biscuit treat for the spoilt munchkin. How lovely. We will definitely be back! It's so worth the drive from nearby Bright or Wangaratta for a quaint but delicious country pub lunch. Keep up the amazing work guys!!

However, despite the lack of nice beers on tap, this place still did have some charm, and the service wasn't bad either. However, I'm unlikely to make the trek back out here again for another one.

We stopped here for tea on our way through the region. Grabbed a couple of beers and a big t bone steak for the locally grown mita beef. The steak was cooked ideally not to red and not over cooked and coupled with a good serve of potatoes, beans and mushrooms all covered with a garlic sauce. It was delicious. The pub itself was set out nicely and a wood fire on a cold night is welcoming. There is an outside area with a huge iron fire pit that wasn't going when we were there but I could imagine it would be great on a cold night also. The pubs decor was interesting with a nice wine rack, some quirky industrial farming decor some print of interest hanging in the bistro. The only thing I wasn't overly keen on was the men's toilet is in the bar and it's a bit out of the way if your in the bistro. A great pub and would happily return for another meal here for sure the staff were very friendly and helpful.

You had to pay extra for the gravy for the steak which is normally include in most places. The kids had the old faithful nuggets and chip as there not the most adventurous eaters but a safe bet they will get eaten. The meal wasn't bad the steak cooked as required and a decent serve of chips and salad to fill you up. It's definitely not worth raving about but a decent pub meal. They do have specials on most nights of the week that may take your fancy like a cheap parmy night or $12 of steak night. I would return here again as it was not bad wouldn't mind trying the parmy. It's a fairly simple but old favorite of many.

The place has grown substantially over the years and has heaps of separate areas to congregate in. There's even a kids play room for the little ones to burn off some energy. We had the bruschetta, garlic pizza, mixed grill a chicken schnitzel and a couple of kids meals. The bruschetta was a decent size and could've easily been enough for a main. I got the mixed grill as I haven't had one for years. It was big and had a nice piece of pork belly on it also. The garlic pizza was good nice and salty with a light dough, it hit the spot for our starter as we were getting hungry. The place was packed and thought the wait time for the meal would be long but was surprised at how quick it was. The food is pretty good and not over priced. The meals are a decent size and the staff were all nice and helpful. Will go back here again one day with out a doubt it's a good place for a work dinner or a few beers with the guys for the Xmas breakup.

The Strathy was a vast, empty pub. Two TV screens on but no sound playing. A couple of chairs haphazardly placed around and only Carlton Draught and Bulmers cider available to drink. Don't get me wrong! I am not expecting craft beers from inner Melbourne to be available, but I think some slight variety wouldn't go astray. There seemed to be a dining area also available however we weren't brazen enough to try the food... or to stick around longer than our pot of beer. If you're staying out in Strathmerton and are in desperate need of a beer, the Strathy hotel is your only option... So I hope you like Carlton Draught.
