We…read moretried to get a seat in the bistro but they were booked out due to the fact that Monday night special is a two for one deal so two meals for the price of one. We were seated in the bar which didn't really bother us. The meals are a little expensive for what they are but when your getting the second one for free it's worth it. Our meals came out in reasonable time and the staff were friendly and helpful. My on complaint was that we had to chase up our own cutlery as there was none to be seen and no salt and pepper on the tables. The meals were good and for the price which seem expensive were quite big. My partner had lamb cutlets and there were four cutlets and a good serve of veggies. I had the beast burger and chips. And it really was a beast I had to push it over and eat it bit by bit. My friend had the Tex mex Parmy and it was also a good size with sides of chips and a couple of dressings. Was impressed with the meals and would happily come back especially on the two for one night just to save a dollar so I can spend it at another restaurant to further my yelp experiences.

Thought I would post on today's experience…read more First time in Bendigo, as soon as we drove in the wife and I both commented on how much it reminds us of New Orleans, it has a very similar look/feel. So decided to see if there was some American food, was not disappointed by the yard bird. We opted to sit inside in the air conditioning but the bar is also surrounded by a great balcony with tables overlooking the centre of town. The menu offers pretty much everything you'd expect from an American restaurant and is fairly priced but the theme is poorly reflected in the decor. Yard Bird is situated upstairs in an old Irish hotel so it's hard to throw a couple of baseball cards and Budweiser signs around and call it an American bar. I ordered the shrimp po boy and while I was impressed with the generous portion of food I received it was night impossible to eat. When something comes in sandwich/roll form you expect the be able to pick it up and eat it but the whole outside of the roll was covered in shrimp sauce and it was poorly packed (for presentation). It didn't taste too bad but the shrimp really did feel like they were pre-packaged, crumbed and frozen. I understand that seafood is generally on ice but I would expect crumbing/battering/coasting to happen in-house and whilst I can't say for certain this hasn't been the case here, I can say that it didn't seem like it to me. My partner ordered the southern fried yard bird (chicken) and was impressed with the fact that he received breast meat rather than drumsticks and wings. It wasn't amazing food but it certainly wasn't terrible and the price helps that along a bit too. I'd definitely like to give Yard Bird another try at a bustling time.

The meals were reasonably quick to come out considering how busy the place was and were a fairly generous size. The staff were quite friendly and attentive. The function we attended was catered for and was finger food and the quality of it was quite nice. It wasn't five star quality but was obviously home made sausage rolls, lovely soft calamari and moist chicken tenders not mass produced out of a box. The room was nice and big and well set up. The only problem I didn't have was that it was all cash at the bar and no eftpos so I had to make a quick trip to the atm down the street but was all good after that. Was a good night and would be happy to return again.

The staff are friendly and attentive. They bring the food out reasonably quick and they serve water with ice and lemon as a nice touch. Happy to return here again as it's simple food that satisfies some of the fussy eaters ( Childrens) needs that don't like spicy or exotic or fancy foods. It's an easy option when going out with several people that maybe fussy or have plain tastes but still nice enough to enjoy.

The Peppermill. I've been here quite a few times over the years and have have not good and bad…read morefeeds. We went to a 21st for the most recent time and the food was pretty good for a pub meal. The place has grown substantially over the years and has heaps of separate areas to congregate in. There's even a kids play room for the little ones to burn off some energy. We had the bruschetta, garlic pizza, mixed grill a chicken schnitzel and a couple of kids meals. The bruschetta was a decent size and could've easily been enough for a main. I got the mixed grill as I haven't had one for years. It was big and had a nice piece of pork belly on it also. The garlic pizza was good nice and salty with a light dough, it hit the spot for our starter as we were getting hungry. The place was packed and thought the wait time for the meal would be long but was surprised at how quick it was. The food is pretty good and not over priced. The meals are a decent size and the staff were all nice and helpful. Will go back here again one day with out a doubt it's a good place for a work dinner or a few beers with the guys for the Xmas breakup.
