He was super knowledgeable, professional, and a skilled instructor...but just as importantly, he was kind, supportive, and a great communicator...he tailored the program to meet both of our needs, and we both learned SO MUCH! one of us had experience with whitewater kayaking, but he was impressed with how many things he learned that will make his paddling more efficient, easier, and safer... We've been out since to work on the assisted and self-rescues and were very successful! we look forward to practicing while the nice weather lasts and look forward to taking the class again in the spring.

Booking was a breeze, advanced communication was timely and informative, check-in was friendly and easy, and even the drive across the island from Friday Harbor was engaged and informative. But the real magic happened on the water, where we started under mild, overcast skies, and ended with sunshine and perfect weather. Along the way we saw: 1 black fox, 2 harbor seals, 1 harbor porpoise, a rhinoceros auklet (unique diving sea bird), 13+ Bald Eagles, AND TWO HUMPBACK WHALES! The beach side lunch was fantastic... the best turkey sandwich I've ever had, made exceptional by the views and the company. The lack of an Orca sighting made this full day trip an eyelash shy of perfect, but we could not have otherwise been more thrilled with our experience on the water with Brandon and the Discovery Sea Kayak team. We spent the morning learning about the equipment, reentry skills and practicing quite a few strokes. After lunch we did a few more reentry drills and then he asked what we wanted to practice more. He was very flexible and patient with us walking us through each skill and allowing us to try things multiple times. We highly recommend a class with Fidalgo Paddlesports. 1:1 Intro to Sea Kayaking lessons with Jesse. He was spot on with choosing a date with the most…read morefavorable weather conditions in April (wind & tide) for a 5 hr private session. Jesse met us near home with all the equipment needed for a day on the bay. Our first lesson was a wet exit - sitting inside the kayak with the skirt on, flipping the kayak upside down, yanking the skirt off and doing a somersault out. It was scary at first, but not that scary after doing it once, plus it built up confidence to be on the water. Jesse was very patient with his instruction and gave us great safety and stroke tips. We highly recommend Jesse and Fidalgo Paddlesports for anyone new to sea kayaking. We've already signed up for our next class on Rescue and Recovery in Anacortes. For those more advanced kayakers, Fidalgo Paddlesports has a full range of courses for all levels, plus instructor certifications. Thanks Jesse for the perfect new Sea Kayaking experience!

Don't take your children there!!!…read more While looking at fishing poles and reels to buy myself for veterans day, my two daughter's were walking around excited to look at the new store I'd never taken them to before. They had walked upstairs thinking it was apart of the stores selection, upon seeing it was full of boxes they walked down and came back to look at the knives near the reels I was looking at. A man that worked at the store ended up approaching them soon after, asking them if they had gone upstairs. They answered yes and explained they hadn't seen the signage stating employees only until they came back down as it was poorly placed against the wall near the stairs and barely visable. He then insinuated they stole and made a show of saying he would check the cameras. Once I stepped in and said my children aren't thieves he then double down and said that they had cameras. I left infuriated leaving behind a 200 dollar purchase with a bad taste in my mouth, safe to say I will not be going back.
