Hunter Bay County Dock is one of the best kept secrets on Lopez Island. If you are looking for a…read morerelatively private beach, or a place to launch your boat, this place is a must visit! The graded concrete ramp is in good shape, and easily accessible. Hunter Bay is well-sheltered by tall cliffs to the south, so the water is relatively calm. The beach and surrounding environs make for a truly gorgeous setting. The beach is next to the ramp and dock, and there's plenty of soft, pebbled sand. It's a great place to sit on a driftwood log and listen to the birds sing. I spent an hour at this beach and never encountered a single person. That says a lot for Lopez Island in July, the busiest month of the year. Visitors will find parking on a hill just above the dock, with designated spots for cars and boat trailers. Boat trailer parking is limited to 72 hours, which is pretty impressive given there's no charge for parking in this space. Please be respectful and quiet when parking in the vicinity of the dock, it's a residential setting with neighboring vacation rentals and primary residences. Dogs are allowed on leash, but warnings indicate pets running free are subject to confiscation due to local livestock. I brought my dog and didn't feel she was in any danger - but I kept tabs on her the entire time I was there. I highly suggest checking out this lovely and serene beach when you visit Lopez Island next.

Over $65 for a guest slip which was difficult to reserve at the kiosk due to a terrible system combining a parking kiosk, a paper list of available slips, and no obvious way to pay for power which is course cost extra. To add to this less than stellar experience, they have a porta potty that, as they generally are, was absolutely disgusting and not well maintained at all. Took forever to find the slip. Nothing is well labeled, no obvious map at the fuel pump, and the least intuitive numbering schema I've ever witnessed. Two other boaters I kept passing were just as lost having to make unnecessary maneuvers while searching for their assigned slip. Epic fail. I wouldn't dock my boat there again if it were sinking and that was the only way to save it.

We spend the weekend here working nonstop and felt very safe and secure here. There are many restaurants and convenience stores nearby for everyday grabs. Another sunny PNW weekend, another chance to explore and find a new beach! Snoo-oosh is a…read moresmall-but-mighty little slice of paradise with a beautiful view of Whidbey Island. It's a level, rocky beach, with some driftwood - perfect for exploring, beach walking, or just sitting on a log and taking it all in. There's a bit of a rough parking area (watch out for potholes) and zero facilities, so keep that in mind as it's a bit of a drive to the nearest restroom. This would make a great beach for kayaking or canoeing, as the bay it sits on is semi-protected and seemed insulated from the wind. Note: the map indicates there's a boat launch here, but there is not. There appears to have been one at some point, but it's been mostly washed away and covered with rocks and driftwood - definitely no way to actually use it to launch anything but a portable watercraft.

Took the 1 hour, 5pm sail and it was a magical experience. This August 2025 the weather was calm but had enough of a breeze to get us going. We sailed out of the harbor left and then sailed past the town. Fun! Meet at the edge/corner of the marina and there is a small placard and Captain Erik will probably be there waiting for you. He explains procedures, safety issues and points of interest in a clear and relaxing manner. Skinny, life jackets are provided. You can manually pull the orange tab to inflate or it will self inflate when submerged in water. Make reservations in advance.

My sister had recently come here to go kayaking and recommended it as a spot to visit. So, I decided to give it a try as a lunch spot. Discovery passes were required for parking, fortunately I had thought ahead and it was in the glove compartment of my car. I arrived towards the morning side of noon on 1 September 2021 and parking was abundant. The weather was sunny with a slight wind. So I decided to park, grab my lunch and eat on a piece of driftwood on the beach. A group of kayakers were just heading out as I ate and a few dog walkers made their way up and down the shore. Just up from the beach there were picnic tables and a large grassy expanse. A trail led off into a wooded area. The restroom building not far from the parking lot was kept cleanly.

It's nice to remember the good ole past memories that are now long gone and can't ever be brought back. Ahhhh This place is quiet and still very secluded. Here you will find a moment of silence. It's nice and humbling. It also made me realize to just enjoy each day and be grateful for everything and everyone I am blessed with. I enjoyed my afternoon here.
