I have been going to West LA Pilates for over a year now. Before I started coming I had never done Pilates before and they were really patient and helpful even in sessions that weren't private. I really love going here because I always feel like they pay a lot of attention to my body and what I need to work on. Patte and Lucia are great! I always look forward to my sessions. The studio is located on Westwood Blvd and National Blvd next to the Chevron station. Street parking is easily available on Westwood. read more

I have never left a negative review in my life simply because it isn't worth it to leave anyone a bad review. This is one of the worst interactions I have ever had with a person or business. I found Patte online on Yelp, she was the closest pilates instructor to me so that is why I contacted her. At the time she had a 2 for $99 special listed on Yelp, which she didn't honor, she said that she had changed it to 2 for $140. That should have been the first red flag. I booked sessions with her for my teenage daughter, she only has privates and in total I prepaid for 10 sessions. I don't know how she is an instructor just as a business owner. In the first month of using her, she had canceled for vacation, canceled last minute due to illness(totally understandable), and asked us to come earlier for her convenience(because she was taking classes and wanted to leave earlier even though it was inconvenient for us) and asked us to come at different times. I was very accommodating to her. Then one morning my daughter was not feeling well and I texted her at 7:30 am in the morning to cancel the 3 pm class. She informed me of the cancellation policy and said she would let it slide this time. I was a bit surprised I know all about cancellation policies as I work with one and because of COVID and empathy for people I let things slide as I do not want to see a sick person. Patte herself gave me less than 3 hours to cancel the appointment with us. I think that customer relations are reciprocal. I asked about the cancellation policy and she informed me unless someone is in the emergency room she doesn't care. Her tone was entitled and I felt like canceling all classes but since I am not taking the classes I let it slide. I know that cancellation policies are necessary for people who constantly cancel or miss their appointments and don't value your time. After the 8th session, Patte texted me and said that the next session was the last and she would be going away again. I texted her back and listed the dates my daughter had been to her and corrected her that it was her second last. She never responded. So after the 9th session, I tried to speak to Patte and she told me that she would no longer honor the sick day. I said that there is a text log of all conversations and not only is she not honoring her agreement she was the one who was constantly shifting appointments to suit her life. She then pulled me into the back room closed the door and told me I was rude to her over text and that's why she changed her mind. Because I asked about her cancellation policy? She started raising her voice and as I tried to leave I hit record on my phone (for safety) which I have never had to do before, she then grabbed my phone and threw it on the floor(which is all recorded BTW). This was the craziest most unhinged interaction I have had in my life. I hope this information was useful to you. I wish I was warned. read more

I've known Patte for 25 years and she is a fantastic and a very knowledgeable Pilates instructor. Anyone I send to her, I have full confidence that she is going to provide a wide range of training from a great Pilates workout to a well thought out rehabilitation program and everything in between. What makes her a great Pilates instructor is she emphasizes proper form and movement. Patte and West LA Pilates is definitely a place to get your Pilates. read more

I started going to West LA Pilates because of upper back pain that was making it difficult for me to do my job. I was amazed at how great I felt just after the first session! Patte, the owner and instructor, really helps me to open up my chest to help relieve my pain and promote better posture. I was always so sore after work that I could barely move by the time I got home. Now I actually have energy to get things done or go out once I'm off. She has helped me tremendously and I am so thankful for her. It's clear that she has a true passion for what she does and I would recommend her to anyone who is seeking a Pilates instructor! read more

I am already on my second package of private lessons with Patty James and am seeing incredible results. If you do not know the amazing benefits of Pilates then do some research. I find it is more effective then doing regular gym stuff and the results are long lasting. One could say that the downside is to really maximize your effort, you should be working one-on-one with a knowledgeable trainer and that cost can add up, and well, I have had some "not-so-good-but-really-nice" trainers in the past and the money just get burned. However, Patty James is really exceptional, she is knowledgeable, intuitive, and funny. And she has the equipment. Tip when shopping: No dis to the younger sisters out there or the gym trainers, but for Pilates, even if you are young, you might wanna look at trainers that have life experience, possibly an injury or other physical challenge that they themselves have over come with Pilates. read more

I signed up for a group class, and as there was a slight mix-up, I was the only person and they still had the class just for me! Private class, +1 points. There are four reformers total, appears that two fit in each room, so I imagine the max for a class size is 4 people anyway - nice and small. My instructor (sorry, forgot your name) was amazing. She asked me about all my less-flexible/injured parts and was careful to modify the movements to not aggregate my problem areas. She also kept me going strong even though I'm sure in a 1-on-1 session the temptation to skip over the hard parts is common. She made nice light talk, which I thought was different, but then again, never had a 1-on-1 session before. Parking: easy to find right out front (I came on the weekend). The entrance to the building is on Westwood, and you walk back till you find the door on the right. read more

I had my first session at West LA Pilates yesterday and it was fantastic! I loved my trainer and I got one of the best workouts of my life! The studio is smaller - giving you uniquely personal attention and privacy (if needed) for those of us non-Pilates people. I literally can't wait to go back next week! read more

Patte is the best Pilates teacher I ever had - and I've had a whole lot. She pays extreme attention to detail and gives detailed, helpful corrections and tips. She's also cheerful and fun, without being overwhelming. She's just perfect! I also took a class with another instructor who was also really excellent, very focused, sweet and helpful. In just 4 classes I felt that some things have improved in my body - my chest is more open, for instance. With only 4 reformers, the classes are virtually private. The studio looks onto a balcony filled with plants, which I found lovely, very refreshing and peaceful. I really liked it that there was no loud, crappy music as there is in so many places. Also, the place is very clean - always a plus. Plenty of free parking on the street. read more

All right... I originally purchases the Yelp special and got hooked on this place. Boy am I glad that I decided to try it out. My initial private lessons were with Patte who is extremely nice, knowledgeable and fun. I wasn't sure what to expect from Pilates, but Patte took me through all of the beginner exercises explaining what we were doing as we went along. On this first visit, we concentrated on the basics, form and stretching, and on subsequent visits, moved on to workouts on the reformer. She is incredibly patient... After my initial deal ran out, I happily signed up for additional classes, and am no doing semi-private classes (only one other person besides me) weekly. I've had classes with four different teachers, and although each one has a signature style, I received a great workout from all of them. If you are a beginner and want to find out what the Pilates fuss is all about, I highly recommend trying out this Yelp deal. If you're like me, you may get hooked too! read more

I had the worst instructor. I don't even know her name, but it was very bad. I'm not big on Pilates - I actually enjoy barre more. I'm aware of all the different positions and correct forms in Pilates because of how similar it is to yoga and barre. I'm just not an expert on working the reformer. However, this lady treated me like a 5 year old. I told her that it was my first class at THAT studio. She acted like it was my first ever workout class. She underestimated me and literally babied me, took weight off my reformer and basically had me do the easiest version of everything the whole hour I was there. I didn't break a sweat because nothing I did was challenging. I told her to let me do what the other girls were doing, I'm not a handicap person, and I'm fully capable of executing all the positions. She told me that she was only looking out for me because it was my first class - but honestly she was keeping me from my morning workout. I could have just slept in and walked my dog - it would have been a better work out doing that. I was so pissed off this morning. I wanted to feel energized and challenged - instead I felt like I wasted a VERY valuable hour of my life sitting on my back moving my legs and arms in the air. Literally not a joke. SO FRUSTRATING thinking that I wasted that time. Do not come to this Pilates studio unless it's the girl that's in on Thursdays ( that's what a girl at the studio told me after class) The lady substituting today was nice but just horrible at listening to what we needed and wanted. She was older (like maybe 60) and had a thick accent - so I understood like 50% of what she was saying. She was also late this morning so another reason to skip this place. read more

I've love West LA Pilates. Patte and Gia are the best and can really help work around your schedule as well as your body. I'm pretty sure Gia's 7am class was made to accommodate me. Every week Gia has 'new moves' and always keeps it fresh and interesting as well as an amazing full body workout. Another reason I love them, Gia fit me in her class while I was pregnant and just adjusted my workout. From pre to pregnant to post pregnancy Gia has made me a Pilates addict. I love this gem of a studio and everyone in it. read more

My 12 year-old son and I have been attending classes with Patte for the past two months (now on class #10). Our physical therapist recommended trying pilates due to our history of some ankle/lower extremity injuries and core weakness. Patte's assessments of our evolving needs are detailed and thoughtful, and she tailors the exercises to specific muscle groups that require attention. Scheduling is very easy and her overall approach is perfect for us - challenging yet professional, with a wonderful sense of humor. Our physical therapist has noticed significant improvement - my son's posture has improved dramatically and I feel taller too. I wish I could go several times a week - the classes are a wonderful stress reliever on top of the physical benefits. Thank you Patte! read more

I hadn't understood the significance of working my core until I met Patte. I started working out at West LA Pilates because of terrible knee trouble. Who knew that working my core could eliminate my knee pain?! I also discovered that the work I was doing with Patte, significantly reduced my lower and upper back pain and neck pain, and even improved my posture. No wonder working the core is such a big, big deal! read more

I started working with Patty and Nora over a year ago and just love this studio! Not only is the instruction fanastic, but the teachers are people you would want to have as friends. Every student I have met has been with the studio for two plus years and I have made some friends. Good people, GREAT work-out :) read more

I have been doing pilates at West LA pilates for 6 years and I still look forward to it every week. Having done pilates at several other places I prefer the attention to form and the hard workout out that I get here. Some days we concentrate on intense stretching and yoga positions. Some days it's more cardio, other days it's a great combination that I need. The location is easy and I also use the chiropractic services there too. You will be really happy and there is a lot of options for privates and classes. read more

So, I've been meaning to write a review for West L.A. Pilates for a really long time. I took pilates classes there for about 2 years and it is really such a great studio. I took classes mostly from Patte but all the other instructors I had there were good as well. Patte really knows her stuff. She really teaches pilates. If you are only taking pilates to work up a sweat, then this might not be your thing, but if you want to really learn about how to use your body correctly, this is the place to go. Patte is really picky, but she gets results. If feel such a difference in my body since I started going there and I am so much more aware. I would definitely recommend checking this place out. read more
