I was looking to improve the contour of my body after a "gaining phase" of muscle hypertrophy-focused weight training. I already knew about the reputation of Dr. Ruff and WEPS in the Georgetown area and went to him. I had one virtual consultation and one in-office consultation prior to the procedures. The virtual consultation ended up being free of charge once I decided to pursue in-office consultation. Before my virtual consultation, Dr. Ruff didn't know how committed I was to the procedures. Yet, he still spent time reviewing pictures that I emailed to him. The virtual consultation was informative and reassuring. Most importantly, Dr. Ruff demonstrated to me an artistic view/taste as a "sculptor", in addition to procedural proficiency as a surgeon. During the in-office consultation, Dr. Ruff was attentive to details regarding my long-term surgical and health outcome. He made sure I didn't have a family history of breast cancer and asked me to cough to check for any risk of tissue herniation. We decided on the following procedures: liposuction of the abdomen and flank (almost 360 degrees around my torso); fat grafting to the hip, buttocks, and breasts; submental liposuction, and buccal fat removal. My surgery was rescheduled once out of abundant covid precaution. My pre-op nurse Sharonda was particularly helpful in this case. She responded to my emails timely and re-sent prescriptions that I wasn't able to pick up due to changed surgery date. On the day of surgery, my surgical nurse Jill was with me from the time I arrived until I was picked up safely outside the medical/surgical office building. I received local numbing and inhalable Pro-Nox as anesthetics for the procedure. I think going this route rather than general anesthesia contributed to my good surgical outcome - my muscle was under tension rather than being completely flaccid, which may facilitate Dr. Ruff to better "sculpt" the body contour. Dr. Ruff carefully marked me up before surgery. I "casually" mentioned dissatisfaction about extra tissue in my armpits when my arms were let loose on my sides. Dr. Ruff "went extra distance" to address this concern, simply because I mentioned it during the marking up process. The surgery started on time and lasted about 3.5 hours. My mobility was not compromised much immediately after surgery - I walked out of the building, went to pick up prescriptions from CVS, and got into the car all by myself. My nurse Jill was with me till I waved goodbye to her through the car window. I took prescription pain medication on the day of surgery and the day after. Then I was able to conduct daily life without any pain meds (OTC or prescription). Dr. Ruff called me the night of surgery and saw me for post-op appointment the day after surgery. He responded to my texts whenever I had questions. When I was in office for MedSculpt treatment 2 weeks after surgery, Dr. Ruff made extra effort to "pop in", saw me, and evaluated my healing process and level of compression I needed in the upcoming weeks, even though he didn't have to do all these. I am beyond happy about my results so far. My waistline and its transition to hips came out more elegant than I had expected. I myself didn't have the insight that a small amount of fat grafting to the hips would truly "elevate" my shape. Dr. Ruff was able to foresee it and executed it well. Dr. Ruff and his surgical team are fabulous! There are not many people about whom I can say, they changed my life. Dr. Ruff is one of them. Growing up as a fatty, I lost 100lbs in college and lived with sagging skin for the next 30 years. Now in my 50s, I decided to reward my years of maintenance dieting and invest in my body (ok, call it a midlife crisis!). My general physician recommended Dr. Ruff, so I saw him for a consultation. I decided to get the full abdominoplasty surgery with some added tucks and enhancements. The care, encouragement, consultation and instruction I received from Dr. Ruff and his team was phenomenal. I never had surgery before, plastic or otherwise. Dr. Ruff and all his staff addressed every one of my serious and hair-brained questions and concerns with patience and sincerity. They put my mind at ease both leading up to the surgery and afterwards. It was a big surgery and took lots of hand-holding, but Dr. Ruff was super attentive and caring throughout. And, best of all, the procedure was a huge success!! I couldn't be happier with the results!!! At the time of this writing, it has been a little more than a year since the surgery, and the follow up visits to check on my progress have just recently ended. I can say without hesitation that I have never been so in love with my body in all my life. When I stand in front of the mirror, I marvel at the skill and artistry of Dr. Ruff's handiwork. I would volunteer to give my testimony to anyone considering the procedure. I am honored and grateful to be the beneficiary of Dr. Ruff's life's work in plastic surgery. He exudes passion and compassion. He deserves every one of my five stars ... and more. I came to this office via a Groupon. I didn't know what to expect and was VERY pleasantly surprised. I had just finished a very aggressive cancer treatment and wanted to do a little something to help myself feel a little better. I didn't see Dr. Ruff but did see Lori Ward, the nurse practitioner. She was delightful, skilled, and very appropriately concerned about not doing anything that might be dangerous for me while my white blood cell numbers were low. She was going away for a few days after my treatment and gave me her cell phone number to use at any time should I have any concerns. I needed a little touch up and she brought me in immediately at no charge. I am very happy with the result. I like that this office does a day each year where all profits go to support cancer patients. I'm not aware of other medspas doing this. Also, I am very surprised at the negative reviews of the reception staff I have seen on Yelp. I have definitely seen nasty receptionists before but the staff here couldn't have been nicer. I interacted with Michelle on four occasions and she was friendly, warm, and accommodating. I did have to wait a few minutes both times I came for my appointment (although the second time was because I was late for my appointment after being caught in a terrible traffic jam because the roads were flooded). After reading the reviews about the reception staff, I decided that I would listen to how they interacted with others (in case I was getting extra nice treatment as a recent cancer patient). I found their treatment of other patients in person and on the phone uniformly professional, efficient, and warm. The only service provider I dealt with was Lori Ward. I would and will recommend her without hesitation and I hope other people will not be put off by some of the harsh reviews they have seen here. West End Plastic Surgery (WEPS Center) I had been a patient of Botox and Juvederm for many years. Finally, the "years" caught up with me. I therefore, asked my Botox and Juvederm physician if he thought I should have a mini facelift. He responded yes and referred me to Dr. Paul Ruff at the WEPS Center. I had promised myself in my 40s's that if I ever thought it was time, I would do it. Well, it had been nearly 34 years since that promise and I as much as I wanted to proceed, I had second thoughts. "Is it too late?" "Why at this age". Most African-American women do not think about facelifts or the like. I suppose I am not to be included in "most" Everyone told me for years I looked younger than my age. However, now, I did not hear that so much anymore. Uh Oh!, I told myself, better do it. Needless to say, I was scared out of my wits. Even with the wonderful assurance, and patience I might add, from Dr. Ruff. I was a regular pain with question after question; but, he listened patiently, reassured me, and responded to all my concerns. Even on the day of the surgery, the Anesthesiologist, J. Bing. CRNA, was encouraging. Well, I did it!! It has been six (6) months and I am more than pleased. Not only am I hearing "you don't look that age" again, but they are saying I look 10 years younger and these people do not have a clue of what I have done. I received Botox from Ruff and have been extremely pleased with the entire process. Like many others on here I found the practice through a discount coupon (living social). My appointment was scheduled with very little fuss and upon arrival I was in a treatment room within 5 minutes. While the girls at the front desk were younger and prettier than I like, when I pointed out grammar errors on their new patient form they made note and thanked me (not very often the reaction one receives when exhibiting OCD). My nurse practitioner painlessly addressed my botox needs (every little bit helps) and was willing to answer some additional questions about a strange growth on my arm. She grabbed the Doctor and they did an immediate consult and were able to schedule me for a short surgery very soon thereafter. Dr. Ruff provided an easy to understand explanation of why random things might grow on my appendages and assured me I wasn't a freak. The excision was relatively painless and my pathology results were reported quickly, alleviating any concern. I've found a new plastic surgery home and highly recommend the med spa as well. I am forever indebted to Ruff for bringing me back to myself. I was referred to his office after receiving liposuction elsewhere and had excessive skin hanging around. I was anxious and depressed about my appearance, and struggling financially as a graduate student at the time. When pricing was an issue, Ruff told me the price tag was the last thing on his mind and he wanted to help me first and foremost. His kindness was a miracle for me at the time, and has helped me become successful in other aspects of my life. Plastic surgery is not for everybody, though. I went to Ruff Plastic Surgery initially to receive laser hair removal based on a referral from a good friend. I was referred to Lucas Vu back in June 2011 and had a very comprehensive session with him. I am a woman of color, so I was a bit concerned in the type of laser used on my skin. Lucas explained the different types of laser that is used on each skin type and color. I was extremely pleased with my treatment! I have been back 3 times just to be sure, but the treatment works AND my skin is flawless! In that initial consultation with Lucas, I asked about a possible treatment for my adult acne and dark spots. Lucas recommended a few products to try and after 2 weeks, my skin was GLOWING! I have been seeing Lucas for both my laser hair removal AND for monthly facials and absolutely LOVE him and my new skin Lucas has an awesome personality AND he really knows what he is doing! I went to my first appt with Dr Ruff today for a consult. My first impression was over the phone making the appt. I thought 'wow, that's one nice guy who answerd the phone (Cody). I notice these things because I am a travel agent and Im appalled at 90% of service oriented 'first calls' I make (first call impression affects us) So that first call was a great start. I went to my appt today. I am very happy with the experience. I do see several doctors in DC for health issues so I am used to waiting 30 to 45 minutes. I've never been to a doctor in DC (the 'good ones') that does not see me about 30 minutes after I arrive. I never liked it but realized 'its across the board' more than not. I'm sure because they get people like me who get to their appt and take up more of their time then the doctor had planned :) I ask a lot of questions. I met Dr Ruff and felt great energy right away. Dr. Cohen is an outstanding professional and extremely personable. I went in for fillers to correct the indentations under my eyes and I am so thrilled with the results. This was my first foray into any type of facial plastic surgery and I can't imagine a better physician to work with. Dr. Cohen carefully evaluated the undereye areas that I wanted improved, answered all of my questions in a detailed manner, and was exceptionally thorough in delivering beautiful results. He carefully checked midway through the procedure to make sure it was even and not overdone. As someone who's a bit afraid of needles, he was also very thoughtful to make sure I felt comfortable and kept me calm throughout the entire experience. How dumb are you? Anyway, I see Norah for all of my injectables and laser services and she is a consummate professional with a wicked sense of humor. I really look forward to my appointments with her. More recently, I had some work performed by Dr. Ruff himself. Not only is his staff absolutely amazing-- friendly, thorough and attentive--but Dr. Ruff's work was fantastic and my results were even better than I had hoped. He called me personally the night of my procedure and I saw him again the following day. I can't say enough good things about this practice. And this high praise is coming from someone with several family members and close friends in the plastic surgery field in the metro area. I can't say enough good things about Bonnie--I've been going to her for facials and brows for a couple of years now, and am so grateful for her expertise and honest advice when it comes to all things skin. I've been to aestheticians before whose advice can feel more like more like a sales pitch to buy the most expensive products or services they're selling. Bonnie is the polar opposite: She has an encyclopedic knowledge of skincare products, but she is always thoughtful and honest about making recommendations. She's also just all around incredible at shaping brows, and getting my (oily, acne-prone, and generally noncooperative) skin in stellar shape. I can't recommend her highly enough! I've been going to Bonnie B for years for eyebrows and facials, since her days at Hela Spa. She is truly amazing--she is extremely knowledgeable about skin, and she will happily recommend skincare ideas for you without pushing expensive products. She is a master of eyebrows, and her facials are thorough (extractions, hello!) and fantastic. On top of all that, she's just a kind and thoughtful person to be around. I came in this week for a facial after a long hiatus due to Covid. The West End folks are clearly taking cleanliness and covid very seriously, presumably since they're also a surgical center. They have multiple protocols in place to keep people separated and the space clean. One of the problems in DC doctor's offices is the assembly line feel and horrible desk staff. I often go out into MD to not be yelled at just to see a medical professional... I must say that I was pleasantly surprised when I visited Dr. Ruff recently. Everyone was very nice throughout the entire office. Over 55 and face looking gaunt? Sound familiar? Well that's where I was before I had some of my own fat transferred to my face. Dr. Ruff filled in and smoothed out all the areas that had sunken in and were causing my face to look less than "alive". My eye brows even seemed to have lifted giving me more expression in my face. The deep lines that I had around the corners of my mouth and nose have significantly softened so now there is only a hint of a line - Why did I wait so long to have this done? Botox = Botox? Well most certainly it should. This was my first visit at Ruff Plastic Surgery, and considering I came with a voucher from Living Social deal wasn't sure what to expect. I have gotten Botox treatments in the past at other places, but never had such a tremendous positive outcome or experience.
