More and more people are becoming conscious to REDUCE their consumption, REUSE (or donate) anything possible, REPAIR anything possible, and ultimately RECYCLE what remains. In addition, anything that is toxic like batteries, unusable paint, yard chemicals, solvents, oils, aerosol cans, fluorescent light bulbs, anything that does not decompose into dirt, must be disposed of safely and most likely can be recycled in some form. Sonoma County Landfill has a household toxic disposal/recycling center which I use whenever I need to. I never, ever put anything toxic in my trash or recycle bins at home. This has been my reason for coming to the Sonoma County Landfill. Not to put anything at all into the landfill, but to make sure that anything from my household that is toxic be recycled. There is usually a line of trucks and cars up to the toxic recycling station, but it moves quite fast. You are told to stay in your vehicle, handed a clip board with a simple form to fill out stating you are a Sonoma County resident, and when you reach the drop-off station the attendant takes your toxics out of your car trunk or pickup bed. Pretty Simple! The Residential: Household Toxic Disposal & Recycling station is only open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. There is another way to recycle other more common things at Sonoma County Landfill. Just around the corner from the Household Toxics station are a series of huge dumpsters. One each for plastics, metals, glass, paper, cardboard, etc. For me, I am a little uncomfortable putting some items in my home recycle bin like EMPTY yard insecticide plastic bottles, or Roundup plastic bottles, empty paint cans, plastics without the recycle number, things like that . . . even though it is probably okay to do so. I just drive up to the giant recycle dumpsters and put those things in their respective dumpster. Since construction crews unload industrial amounts of these materials into these dumpsters, it makes me feel like my little recyclable items will be included in the big melt downs and not sorted out; I could be wrong. Note: All these services are Free! The one thing that Sonoma County Landfill does Not recycle is Styrofoam (polystyrene). So, that means everyone in Sonoma County throws this toxic stuff into the land fill. Not Good! What I do is save all my Styrofoam in my garage until I have a car full and then drive down to Hayward (1 1/2 hours away) to a company that truly recycles Styrofoam. I am dedicated to doing my part to be environmentally responsible. I produce extremely little garbage in my life. I have the smallest garbage can (20 gallon) of the four sizes available from our disposal company. It takes me weeks to fill it up. Everything else I consume goes into either the blue recycle bin or the green bin for yard/food composting. I drive a low emissions vehicle and I am a vegan (you wouldn't believe how much being vegan helps the environment). Making my carbon footprint as low as humanly possible is my goal . . . kind of like the Native Americans did with their harmony with Nature. I wish . . . I was that skillful! So what's good about "Computer Recycling"? I pulled up, dropped the tailgate, a guy comes out and starts taking all the crappy electronics out and stacking it with other junk people delivered. I helped - but this guy unloaded the microwave which was heavy. I then got back into my truck and drove off. What could be nicer than that?! Free disposal of all this old nasty electronic crap. If you are a landlord or your brother-in-law moves out of your house, you will love this place! I can't tell you how exhilarating it was to drive off and leave all of that stuff. No papers to sign, no cranky old guy to say, "I don't know... that looks like nasty stuff." Just drive up, dump it and leave. Who knows? Maybe you can get rid of your brother-in-law too! They may have a job for him sorting all the stuff out. He could probably handle it with some supervision.

In February 2026, I came in and met with William about building custom standing marquee frames for my business. He drew up plans and told me they could make adjustable frames that would hold my marquee letters and numbers. After several days with no follow-up, I had to repeatedly call and leave messages before someone finally called back and apologized. I returned to the shop and William admitted he had forgotten about the project and had misplaced the original drawings. We went over everything again from scratch, and he even brought in another senior welder to discuss ideas and create a mock-up to make sure the final product would work correctly. I made it extremely clear that these frames were needed for booked events, including the Sonoma County Cheese Festival on March 21st. I was assured multiple times that the project would be completed in time. I was also told the work should only take a few hours plus material prep, so the pricing discussion sounded reasonable at first. At their request, I brought in my marquee numbers so they could properly mock up the frame and ensure everything fit correctly. After dropping them off, communication once again completely disappeared. I called multiple times trying to get updates and eventually stopped expecting responses because of how poorly communication had already gone. Over a month later, long after the deadline had passed and after I had already been forced to look for other solutions for my clients, they finally called me to come see the frame. The frame itself was rusty, had water inside it, and the quoted price ended up being around $1,150 for ONE frame -- far higher than what had originally been discussed. What upset me even more was the condition of my marquee numbers when they returned them. They were dropped off in excellent condition, freshly painted, and barely used. When I got them back, they were filthy, stained, covered in rust residue, and appeared to have been left sitting in water. The wooden bases were compromised and now require repairs and repainting before I can even rent them out again. As a small business owner, this cost me time, money, missed opportunities, and damage to equipment I worked hard to build. To make things worse, after I declined the frame because of the condition and pricing, the interaction became hostile. Instead of handling the situation professionally, I was told to "get the fuck out of my shop," followed by additional insults from management. The lack of communication, missed deadlines, poor care of customer property, and unprofessional behavior made this one of the worst business experiences I've had.

They've been my go to for 20 years now, and man have they made my life better and easier by always having exactly what I need, or helping me come up with excellent solutions to fix things both at work and at home! Especially when trying to explain this process to my parents. My realtor suggested Donna. From the moment I talked with her, pressure was lifted. She came over and made a packing plan. She calmly went over the details with all of us. No question or concern we had was dismissed. Before the main moving day Donna sent over a super sweet young lady named April to wrap and pack my mother's fragile items. I can not tell you how much this made a difference. April's cheerful and patient demeanor really eased my Mom's mind about packing. It was amazing. The next day the super strong men of Hemmin & Hauling came over. They worked wonders on getting everything into storage. They were able to deliver a lot of the large furniture for donation. They worked really hard to get everything packed and moved in one day. Always with smiles and a great attitude. I can not stress enough how incredibly happy I am with the professionalism, kindness, and compassion of Donna and Hemmin & Hauling. Most importantly, they treated my senior parents with dignity and their belongings with respect. We have one more move to do.
