I was interested in a Porsche 911 S that they were selling but live several hundred miles away, so I had a few questions and requested that they shoot a quick video before I made the long trip. The owner, Barry, answered none of my questions and indicated making the video (i.e. walking around the car with an iPhone for ten minutes) would cost me a $200. My experience with Barry and the West Coast Automotive team began as a good experience. I drove up to Portland from Eugene to purchase a Volkswagen Passat and upon arrival to test drive the car, it wouldn't start because the battery had died. First red flag. Barry told me their in house mechanic would replace the battery for me. I wanted to have a pre-purchase inspection done but I went up on a Saturday and was not able to get one in before the VW dealership closed. Purchased the car and less than a week later the breaks started squeaking. Brought it to my local jiffy lube and they told me the thread of my front brake pads were dangerously low. I then contacted the warranty company for the silver warranty package I purchased through them to inquire how much of my repair they would cover. I was told they would cover $70 of this $350-$400 fix. After receiving this news, I decided I wanted to cancel my warranty and maybe re-add it at a later time. I contacted Jordan about it because Barry was out of the office on vacation and was told that if I drove back up to Portland, they would fix my breaks free of charge (only under the stipulation that I kept my warranty I purchased through them). My financing options did not work out for the car so I had to purchase with cash and wasn't able to afford an extra $2500 for the warranty. When Barry came back from vacation and heard that the breaks needed fix, he told me Jiffy Lube had lied to me and attempted to send me an inspection from the local Volkswagen dealership of what was supposed to be my car but didn't state anywhere or make any distinction that it was my car, could've been any of the cars they have on their lot. (Image attached below) This inspection stated that the car had breaks in perfect condition (again, no where on the file did it show proof that it was my car). After canceling my warranty with their third party warranty company, they decided that their in house mechanic would no longer be fixing the car and it was now completely my problem. Additionally, I had some issues with a refund through them taking a little longer than expected and when I would call to follow up on the refund process, Barry handled the situation VERY unprofessionally and stated verbatim "you're acting like this is a million dollar car" told me he would send me the refund confirmation email once more before all communication with him was to cease and he was no longer dealing with me, A CUSTOMER. Would not recommend West Coast Automotive, customer service is not their main priority and they do not stand behind their products. read more

What most people do not understand about performance/luxury cars is that a car can be great at time of a purchase and a month down the line it can break down it is not the dealers fault. I have purchased a 04 s55 from another dealer sometime ago and the first day of ownership the car didn't rev past 4000rpm and that was cpo by mercedes. I cams from Southern California to Portland to get a car from West Coast Auto Group they were able to prepare the car and finance papers by the time I got there. i drove the car 1200miles back with no issues, since I am an amg fanatic I have spent over $5000 on maintenance/repairs in the first 2 months but does that mean I have to blame the dealership that sold the car to me. Very good customer service, Jordan was extremely friendly and helpful. Issues started arising with the vehicle we purchased shortly after we bought it. One windshield sprayer was broken, the low oil light came on, the headlights have an issue, a patch on the driver's seat is starting to show and a tire sensor light came on. I couldn't be happier. I found them from their web site at westcoast-autogroup.com after searching for a new car for myself. It was time for an upgrade and these guys have great cars. They didn't do the normal sleazy car salesman techniques which I really appreciated. They told me the lowest price and we didn't have to do the annoying "let me ask my manager" or "let me check on that pricing" over and over again. I get so frustrated with that process and how much time it takes to get to a reasonable price. The car I got (a 2006 BMW M5) was legit. MAKE SURE TO READ BOTTOM OF MY REVIEW. Saw an ad for a vehicle of theirs for sale on Craigslist and thought I would go to check it out. I'm from Salem and was going up to Portland to check out multiple dealers, they were one of a few stops. So I called them inquiring about a BMW M3, the guy on the phone says they do have it but his manager took it home. I'm a little confused at this moment but go to check them out anyways. Upon arrival I see the vehicle isn't there, I ask one of the guys where it's at and he says "oh my manager took it home." When I ask why he responds, "We can do that here." At that moment I knew this place was unprofessional and left. Either that or they weren't taking me serious because I was young? Who knows. Well either way a few days pass and I call them to ask about the car again, they still have it. I ask to see a car fax and they said they'll email it to me in the morning. Next morning I got nothing, I called back twice and finally they sent it. Found out the vehicle was in an accident, never was that advertised though. At that point I gave up. There are way better places to go to in the Portland area. Read your used auto disclosure statements and be prepared for repairs. So far I have spent over 1500 bucks on repairs. They do not do a good job of checking over their vehicles as they only have a sales department and a detail crew, no mechanics. Check every button, switch, knob, vent, oil, mechanical items, all the bells and whistles and bring your own mechanic. Here is a used car disclaimer... The Buyers Guide must tell you: *whether the vehicle is being sold "as is" or with a warranty; *what percentage of the repair costs a dealer will pay under the warranty; *that spoken promises are difficult to enforce; *to get all promises in writing; *to keep the Buyers Guide for reference after the sale; *the major mechanical and electrical systems on the car, including some of the major problems you should look out for; and *to ask to have the car inspected by an independent mechanic before you buy. read more

Went to look at a Honda Insight. Decent enough order. Car sales dude was fun. Girlfriend and I took it for a lengthy test drive, cracked a lot of jokes. It was a fun enough time and a good experience. Vehicle was in a mostly sorted condition however it had some key lack of maintenance issues that were of concern to me. We went in, struck a fair enough deal on purchasing the car but required a review from a Honda Certified Mechanic. We placed a $500 deposit to hold the car while it was being reviewed. Review came back relatively poor. Shot battery, really old oil, tires were far lower than thought... in general the car showed a lack of maintenance. Based on the review we decided not to purchase the car. Called them back, let them know. Given I paid for the mechanic review, they basically got a free mechanics review out of me. A few weeks later, no refund on my $500 deposit. Emailed them and then called as well and left a voicemail. No response. Life happened, I got busy... come to check my bank account now two months later, the charge still stands. That's some sneaky bullshit! read more

Hello, I have purchased several cars from several dealerships, both corporate and private. What I noticed at the big dealerships is that they tried to trick my girlfriend and i into paying retail off a back lot car. I Obviously realized by buying a used car there are going to be some issues but I don't want to feel like an idiot. I found West Coast Auto Group at Westcoast-autogroup.com off of Google.com and Loved the website, it was Very well done and was easy to navigate. I also found it easy to find all the info I was looking for, especially because they kindly display it in several spots on the page. When I saw the Honda I like I checked the website to see if the car was the right car for me. I decided the car was worth the asking price so set up a test drive. When I got to the dealership it was laid back but still held a professional atmosphere. I appreciated it because I felt comfortable the second I walked in. Barry Pulled the car out for me, I test drove it, sure enough it drove like a Honda :) I then went through the financing process where I got a lower rate then I personally every had before. I've only bought an used car from a dealer one time before- it was a big dealership chain and they did all the usual mind games- from "asking the manager" to writing numbers on a piece of paper and sliding it across the table, to chasing me down in the parking lot after I walked out to give me a "final offer." This was nothing like that. The way this business works is unique- they have an office in a prominent location, but no lot. They do all their advertising online but have a separate storage unit for their cars, and bring them out to the customers by appointment. I had just totaled my faithful Nissan a couple days prior, and I needed new wheels stat unless I wanted to find a new job. Mani picked me and my mother, who was visting, up and I immediately thought he was very odd for a salesperson- he wasn't trying to establish rapport with his potential customers, in fact he hardly made conversation. In the end I ended up appreciating that he was all business and no flash. This is not to say he was unfriendly, he just wasn't pretending to be all buddy-buddy with me just to get the sale. Anyway, I looked at the car and liked it, but told him it was just out of my price range. He took me back to his office and straight up told me the exact price he could give me, or as low as he could go while still making a profit. I really liked this bottom line approach- it was indeed no-pressure. He did try to talk me into an extended warranty, but was not pushy when I decided not to buy it. Another cool thing is that Mani said that if anything went wrong with the car or I just needed to get maintenance or parts, I could use their wholesale discount. As an American I'm a car lover. What I drive is in some way, fashion, or form, an extension of my personality. I need something for getting from A to B, but I look for something that makes me feel a certain way when I'm doing that and something I can count on. I have an analytical mind so I tend to research my options exhaustively and oddly enough though I'm an introvert I enjoy spending a day driving from dealership to dealership, talking with the salesmen, and test driving. I never make such an expensive decision on the car lot and with few exceptions sleep on it (an attitude that has clearly irritated more than one sweet talking car rep). It's not simply my love of cars that has me out on a sunny weekend test driving when I might otherwise be at the beach, but also a love of psychology, sociology, and culture, and the car dealership is the perfect microcosm of these. Integrity is a big deal to me. Dishonesty is the antithesis of it. When it comes to family, friendships, romantic relationships, even work, the absence of integrity is a clue to the nearby existence of a fan and a pile of something vile smelling. Avoid at all costs. On a car lot, however, it's a chance to exercise boundaries, communication skills, adjust trust levels, learn how to better deal with people who maybe aren't quite straight shooters. On a car lot you can walk away and forget about it. When I was younger I judged the integrity of a dealership by one simple test: did they listen to what I wanted? If I said I'm looking for an affordable family care in the $20 - $25k range did they push me towards an SUV with all the extras? A person lacking integrity, in my humble opinion, shows their colors initially by demonstrating a simple inability to listen. Recently, though, I've added another test. It's called the Kelly Blue Book test. I ask the dealer, "My benchmark of a dealership is whether you sell me a car for Blue Book prices and if you'll take my trade in for Blue Book. Will you?" Always, always, they say yes, they do that. Nearly always they ask more than KBB for the car they're offering (and aren't willing to haggle) and offer less than KBB for the one i'm trading in (and aren't willing to haggle). Integrity? I think not. The vehicle I was considering was a 2008 Mini Cooper with only 52k miles. Their offer for my trade in was low, but it was still Blue Book, and I was able to haggle them up a little. They weren't willing to haggle on the Cooper, but I could understand why: it was a fair Blue Book rate and frankly with so few miles on the vehicle and it being in such good condition (much better condition and price than anything similar at Mini of Portland) it was more than fair. And that's the minimum of what I look for when purchasing a vehicle: fair numbers. West Coast Auto Group was much more than that, though. From the moment my wife and I walked on the lot the family run dealership was polite, respectful, and friendly. They didn't pressure and John, the guy I worked with, provided one of the most "real" interactions I've experienced with a car dealer. But hey, they want to sell a car, of course they smile, remember my name, and act like my best friend. Duh. So blah, blah, blah, my wife and I decide to purchase the vehicle, and the next day I notice a warning light on the dash and the low tire pressure light's coming on when I start her up. We fill the tires up to 51psi but the lights stay on. Google gives me two answers, neither of which is worrisome, so I get in touch with John and ask about coming in and having them connect to the computer to see what the error code is. No problem. I drive in during lunch, he and his brother connect their computer which shows no error codes, but instead of stopping there John runs in, does some research, returns to the car, we open the hood, and sure enough the windshield wiper fluid is almost out, hence the light. I purchase some fluid, reset the computer, and boom, no more warning lights. Buying a car can be stressful; purchasing used can be ten times so. West Coast Auto took that stress away. They were honest, approachable, friendly, and respectful. Like any business they're there to make money but they didn't play games in order to make the sale. And they passed one of the most important tests there is: if and when I've had a question or potential problem they didn't blow me off but did everything to help even though they really had no legal obligation to do so ("as-is" is "as-is" folks). I've nearly never found these qualities in a dealership and I plan on going back when my wife and I are ready to replace her current vehicle. read more

I purchased recently and put a good amount of money down I thought. When Keywordpurchasing I asked for the owners manual and was promised by berry that he would PDF one to me which never happened. I feel like a fish out of water trying to figure it out. Then once we got home we looked at the spare tire and jack apparatus and there was none. You could tell it had been taken out hurriedly because everything was in disarray. My husband called and inquired about it and he said basically you bought it as is and that's to bad. Ok but that is not you do a customer if you call yourselves having upstanding business practices. I ask God to bless them because these where both easily remedied by them and they have failed sorely. So watch your back and be extra aware. Ps. I had inquired about an older model of the same vehicle that had just been sold. I bet you they have an owners manual and a spare tire :-( read more

An excellent small dealership. They have an interesting selection of cars, with a focus on European and Japanese makes. My wife and I worked with Jordan and purchased a 2009 Prius Touring from them. That car seemed a little out of line with their inventory which generally leans more towards luxury cars but they seem to take care to find well maintained vehicles regardless of their price and make. Jordan was very patient and low-pressure as I took the car in for a couple inspections, and promptly fixed the smaller issues the inspection uncovered. Their financing and insurance contacts were also a good value. They also offer an optional warranty on any vehicle they sell. We were able to negotiate a good price on an already well priced vehicle, and after we took the car home home, Barry (the owner) handled the back end of the deal with patience and professionalism. I would definitely check in with them the next time I am looking to buy a car, and would recommend them to friends. read more

Very expensive compared to shops in my local area. So I sent a tow truck to tow my truck back to Coachella Valley, at which time they made it very difficult to get my truck released to tow truck driver since I wasn't there on site. They need to ease up and make things a little more convenient for the customer. They had my tow truck waiting a extra hour and a half which I had to pay for. First if you google this business they have turned off or isn't participating in having people leave reviews.. I wonder why.. I bought a 2003 ford f150 from west cost... Bad mistake! Just like the john e's review I have found myself in the same position. I loved the way the truck looked and it was what I wanted. The check engine light was on when I test drove it. They "fixed" it. Salesman said they had to replace the spark plugs and wires... I believed the story. The check engine light came back on and come to find out there are no spark plug wires and they never changed the plugs.. the plugs cost me $400 to change. Google it 2003 ford f150 change plugs. They said the oil was just changed. I believed them. One week later when the check engine light came on I checked the oil. The oil didn't register on the stick! I had to add 3 quarts of oil... they lied and never changed the oil.So far I have had to fix the front tire. It had a slow leak in the tire.. $65 bucks I have the receipt. The salesman told me its just the weather. The fuel filter needed to be replaced.. then o2 sensors went out. I replaced those.. then check engine light came back on... I found out there was a hole in the vacuum line.. replaced that.. then my starter died.. then my alternator went out...now I went to get new brakes and I need rotors! The rotors had big grooves in them. I called west coast and talked to the salesman and asked him if he would at least do what they said they would do when I was thinking about buying the truck.. that was change the spark plugs and wires and have the oil changed.. salesman said he can't do that because it costs too much money. Not that they already did it. So I told him I was going to leave a bad review on yelp. I recently bought a 2011 Audi from West Coast Auto for about $31,000. This car was sold "As Is." My previous experience had been buying late model used cars from new car dealers. This was a different experience. My advice to buyers from this dealer is be very careful and diligent about all of the details connected to the purchase. Assume nothing. Check everything out and obtain independent confirmation of any questionable conditions about the car or deal. The car was presented with only one key, no owners manual, floor mats for a different model which didn't fit, gas tank registering empty, sloppy detailing, no Carfax and a requirement for the buyer to pay a DMV fee to transfer an out-of-state title into Oregon for the dealer. Negotiation produced only a purchase of a second key, a cursory clean up and a Carfax.. The extra cost to me for floor mats, owner's manuals and DMV fee was $342. I was misinformed about the process to change the title and register the car with DMV and have it inspected by DEQ which caused additional costs and inconvenience to me. The dealer did allow me to take the car for more than 24 hours and have an independent inspection performed. read more
