Judy, his assistant, was warm and welcoming, encouraging me to come in anytime--even on a Saturday--without an appointment, for only $60 for two treatments. My recent visit to a well-known chiropractor in Newport Beach had left me reeling. She quoted me nearly $9,000 for spinal treatments and described my condition in such dire terms that I walked out feeling anxious and pressured, racing against an imminent deadline before the price climbed even higher. After just a few minutes with Dr. Ward, he carefully reviewed the previous doctor's notes and images, offered me a fresh, encouraging outlook on my back, and explained how it could be healed--without a sky-high price tag. Hearing Dr. Ward give me this new perspective, I felt the tension melt away and became so much lighter and more optimistic. This experience was a very clear example of how I allowed the first doctor's diagnosis to put me into the "stress" response, thereby accentuating my pain, and the high price tag and time commitment only worsened the condition. She said, "you haven't been here in a while, you'd need to make a new patient appt... and I'm not sure we take your insurance anymore anyway." I asked why I would need to do a new patient appointment (which includes X-rays and is more expensive), and she responded, "uh you haven't been here since 2024." I then asked if that was a policy because I don't remember being told that, and she said, "uh no but it's been 2 years and I don't even know if we take your insurance anymore." So I said okay, can you check if you still take my insurance and I'll make an appointment for a later time. Her response: "the person that checks insurance isn't here but I can take a note." The attitude throughout the entire call was rude and unprofessional. I would understand if this was clearly explained as a policy, but that wasn't the case. I just wanted to come in for an adjustment, but after this interaction, I won't be back.
