Terrible, TERRIBLE service! This Wendy's is well-known for having less-than-stellar service, but we still visit it on occasion, because we like Wendy's burgers and it is the only one in the area. However, last night's experience was one of the worst we have had there.
We stopped in around 6PM on Saturday to grab a quick bite to eat, and there was a line like you would expect at that time of day, but it moved SO SLOWLY! Behind the counter, there seemed to be a lot of chaos and incompetence, and the one teen-ager that was taking orders seemed indifferent toward the customers. He would take an order, then stand around for a while watching the people making the food before taking the next order, which is part of the reason why the line was moving so slowly. He was also assembling the orders on trays or in bags, but wasn't letting anyone know when their order was ready, so some people stood around for extra minutes, not realizing their food was ready, while others had to look through bags to try to determine which order was theirs. One guy got his take-out order and left, only to return a few minutes later because they had forgotten to give him his baked potato. The line kept getting longer and longer and one group of college students that had been standing in line for about ten minutes said they couldn't take it any more and left to go eat at Sheetz just up the road.
Our order was actually correct on this visit, which only happens about 50% of the time on our visits to this restaurant. However, the burgers were only about room temperature, and the fries, although fresh and hot, were severely over-salted.
One funny thing that happened while we were there, was that the customers started bonding with each other, as people who have been through a traumatic experience together sometimes do. We started talking with other patrons whom we probably never would have said a word to under normal circumstances. One guy started sharing his past bad experience with this restaurant with us, and warned other customers to check their orders for accuracy. There were no napkins in the dispensers at the condiment bar and one older female customer went to the counter and asked for some, and started walking around the dining room handing them out to other diners who were without.
We will seriously think twice before visiting this place again. Instead, we will try to satisfy our Wendy's cravings when we pass through Altoona or Lewistown. read more
