After a day long visit to Shaker Village, a 10 minute drive to the Old Owl Tavern (part of the…read moreBeaumont Inn) was the perfect choice for dinner. As soon as we parked the car we were greeted by a ginormous need of mint...the scent was inticing. The tavern does not take reservations and we arrived at the perfect time, around 5:30. But 6 pm the bar was full and most of the tables were also filled. The tavern had good character, dark, woody...with photos of rick houses on the wall along with paintings of two fierce owls. We were greeted immediately and had the pleasure of being served by the most pleasant and efficient waitress. Enough choices for bourbon, some good drafts, and a deliciously made dry martini (along with a coffee for our tea toatler yesterday) started is off. There was a nice selection of specials for the day...some of which only a true southerner could appreciate (fruit gel topped with mayo, tomato spicy over cottage cheese topped with mayo) and some like cream of broccoli soup and steak boardelaise that even a yank could appreciate. Our table settled on two orders of fried catfish which came with a choice of two sides...baked potato and coleslaw were the choices. One of our diners choose the fried chicken livers that came with cream gravy...she chose the broccoli soup and corn pudding as her sides. Our tea toatler chose the country fried steak. I will term you that everyone cleaned their plates...it was that good. A final round of coffee, the OK from the waitress that we could pick some mint (which was planted in our garden at home) and we were off. Guess who is coming back? Me!!!

Table for three was cleared and handed to us promptly (they don't take reservations)…read more Drinks were great (old fashioned and manhattan). Server was attentive and friendly. House salad was fresh with fantastic blue cheese dressing I assume was house made. Chicken livers were impeccable--crispy outside and tender and delicious inside. Gravy was nice (hint of nutmeg?) mash was acceptable but not outstanding. Chicken my companions had was good. Banana cake was outstanding! Cobbler was undercooked and not tasty (they gladly subbed in an orange/lemon cake which was great) bread pudding and cobbler both looked a little sad next to the cake portions. Perhaps think about human nature when you are pushing out desserts. It is very easy to feel let down when your dessert is tiny and your neighbor's dessert is huge! Just a thought. Recommend highly! Atmosphere, service, food, the whole picture.

I really hate chewing up a business on Yelp, especially a new family business, but wow! Let's start…read moreat the beginning. Arrived at 5:45. It was not really busy, which caught my attention. A lot going on in town this Saturday night. I envisioned a crowd. There was none. Got to our table, and as is my custom, I seated my wife. Before doing so, I had to clean off her chair which had something wet all over it. Mine was no exception. We specifically came for the all you can eat ribs and wings night held every Saturday. We were excited to try this new eating joint in town. We decided to do our monthly date night here, and it was a straight up full blown, disappointment. There was one flavor of wings available. The wings were so dried out, that the meat inside was hard. They were almost tasteless. One flavor and it wasn't even good. It wasn't a barbecue or hot wing taste. No sauce at all. Just dried out peppered chicken skin surrounding a dried out carcass of a chicken leg. They were horrible. I had envisioned a few different flavors of wings, punctuated by saucy flavor profiles, available on an unlimited wing night. Having COMPLETELY struck out on the wings, I continued my disappointing foray into appetite satisfaction. Cue the ribs. The ribs tasted just like a slab of ribs we had recently gotten from a local food bank. They had an odd Cajun flavor at the time we had gotten them, and I didn't care for them. As soon as I tasted the ribs provided tonight, I was suspicious they were some of the same. Very odd flavor. Definitely not "barbecue" ribs. They too were hard and the meat was completely dried out. Hard chunks of meat ripped from the bone by human incisors. I must have looked like a caveman trying to kill and eat inside the cave. It was almost as if they had cooked these ribs the day before, and were just microwaving them to oblivion before serving them tonight. They were dried out and very hard to get off the bones. I gave up trying to gnaw them off the bone. I left a few of them right where they lay on my plate. Okay, so ribs and wings was a complete bust. How about the steak tips? Nope. Chewy and tasteless were they. How about the honey glazed ham steak? It was "good", but only because it was so icky sticky sweet it couldn't help but taste good. No unique or subtle flavor, just loads of brown sugar. Baked potato had shredded cheese on top. The cheese was so dried out it was brittle. I held one shred between my finger and snapped it in half, to prove it to my wife, as she has a cheese allergy and didn't have a potato. No barbecue sauce or even ketchup on the table. My wife asked for some barbecue sauce. We received two tiny stainless steel ketchup cups with some barbecue sauce in it. It was some bland store bought unoriginal tasting sample. No knife in the silverware packet. Salad bar is about as small as it can be and still be called a salad "bar". Think big stainless bowl of Kroger salad base and a few fixings. I've seen better salads at a family reunion. The tables were not well stocked. No ketchup. No steak sauce. No bottles of optional barbecue sauces. No variety of flavor. No "fall off the bone" anything. My wife makes better wings and ribs at home. Bathrooms were clean. No real ambience in the dining room. It reminded me of eating in a warehouse lunchroom. I believe these people are nice folks. I'm sure they want to succeed. However, if I comment only on the quality of the food I received this evening, it fell flat on its face. I don't give them til fall to close the doors. If they want to stay in business and compete in the restaurant business, they are going to have to make some huge changes to their food prep and food offerings. It was so bad neither my wife nor I went back for seconds. We didn't even finish the disappointment on our plates, which is a loose term, considering we were served on stainless steel trays. It was like having your school lunch thrown right on the tray instead of a plate between the two. Not a fan of stainless steel platters. We were so excited to try this new restaurant in town and now we are sorry we did. It cost us $14.99 a stainless steel platter for this "all you can leave behind" experience. We will not be back.

I don't even normally like sausage. The biscuit and jam were so good too. All the food was delicious. I saw someone trash talk the breakfast buffet in an another review, but every bite I ate was good. I just came back from Disney, this was above the standard breakfast buffet in quality. IF you are wanting a relaxing, DINKS or retired experience, I'd look at the calendar before booking. The special beef stew was incredible, as was the beet salad and the desserts. I look forward to eating here again and trying more menu items. I only take one star off because of the service. Our waitress was very nice, but a little scattered. We ordered an appetizer, but she brought the entrees out first, then seemed unhappy when we said we no longer wanted the appetizer since it still hadn't come out when we were almost done with our meals. Also we said we wanted dessert and she responded "I'll go get the check" and started to walk away. We had to call her back and say again that we wanted dessert, which she seemed surprised by.
